  1. Finally I got the chance to taste the upstairs restaurant "my vietnamese food" and though I can understand how one may like that one but I'm still sticking with the downstairs on "Saigon Oi"

As I had suspected the "my vietnamese" is tailored to thai taste, infact most of the vietnamese restaurant are influenced by Laos-Vietnamese and even Issan-vietnamese.

However Saigon Oi is straight from ho chi minh city formerly known as Saigon. Take for example, the noodle used in "my vietnamese" can normally be found in thailand but take a look at the noodle from "saigon oi" it is almost identical to the ones found in southern vietnam.

Born in raised in Garden Grove, CA (largest viet population outside of Vietnam) I can concur that the style of food at "saigon oi" is more authentic. I have met a few vietnamese immigrants (from southern vietnam) has agreed with me

Now thats not to say authentic always taste better, but the select few that are looking for authentic saigon oi is the place.

I'm not gonna argue which taste better as our taste buds are all slightly different.

So each to their own but I highly suggest trying both places if your vietnamese food is your thing and decide for yourself. smile.png

Seesip, I agree the kitchen can be slow at times.

I have to say I agree the the pork and pate banh mi is a very tasty dish at Saigon Oi!!! Small yes -- I order two!

I just discovered Pho Vieng behind Wawee Coffee Shop on Walking Street. It opens at 12:00pm and is very tasty --- nice outside garden setting and very inexpensive.

Your being from Garden Grove --- you must be familiar with Lee's Sandwiches. I do miss them. I have driven for a lunch time banh mi treat from Long Beach many times!

  2. Well I was told by the booking agent that she couldn't even guarantee I would get a single entry and she asked me if I was sure I wanted to go, I don't think she would try and turn away business for no reason. And what I paid for the whole thing including the return trip in a huge comfortable mini bus, expedited visa on arrival and entry stamp, private bus across the bridge, hotel, meals and the tourist visa fee with expedited drop off and pick up wouldn't have been much cheaper if I did it all on my own.

my last entry on my NON-Immigrant VISA O is valid till June 30 but investigating the logistics etc of Double Entry Tourist visa in Ventiane. Can I ask what service provider you used and the cost? I'd appreciate it.

  3. Playing the man of peace on the left hand with public interviews such as this with the left hand, while antagonising with charter change moves and red shirt rallies with the right.

This tactic should be transparent to all observers over the years by now. But, alas, no...

It is so pathetic that he is allowed to speak and be quoted as if he is representing Thailand. He wants to come back at Yingluck's adviser -- Isn't he already her PUPPET master?

Thaksin is the Mugabe of Thailand and PM Yingluck is the Eva Peron to Thailand!!! "my people, my people". His attempts to over throw the government by fomenting terrorist acts didn't work.

  4. You're free to have your own opinions, but just don't broadcast them, unless you're saying what we currently think, "true democracy" at its best ! Oh, and we know where you work, hint hint ! dry.png

Absolute THUGS! It is really scary that this government allows this behavior. Then you have Thaksin encouraging this type of behavior.

  5. It would help if there were some channel for terrified passengers to lodge a complaint about speeding, reckless/dangerous driving, drunk driving, suspected drug use, etc., and for those complaints to be treated seriously and confidentially. I have been on minivan trips where half the passengers just had to avert their eyes due to the reckless, irresponsible driver's behavior, such as tailgating at high speed, changing lanes frequently at high speed, disobeying speed limits. Same goes for some public-private suburban bus trips. Incredibly aggressive driving behaviors that put people's lives in danger daily. And nothing seems to be done to control it.

You are absolutely right! I'm staggered by the overall aggressive driving behavior of motorists and motorcyclists. I went through the process to get a motorcycle license: the 2 hours of computer training, the exam and then the practical test. Once you get on the road it is --- what happened? Rarely do you see anyone obey laws, signs etc. Automobile drivers drive as if they are a motorcyclist. Splitting lanes and lane changing like crazy for one car length. A red light at a crosswalk means nothing!

  6. Army chief to Red Shirt leader: ‘Who will stage coup?’

    image_20120209143721610B8D7C-07F2-E267-CF136AF979165536.jpg

BANGKOK, Feb 9 - Thai army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha on Thursday dismissed Red Shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan's claim of a possible coup in April, asking him “Who will stage the coup?”.

The army chief reacted one day after the Pheu Thai party-list MP and key Red Shirt leader Jatuporn Prompan claimed that some members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) and his "associates who work with US Intelligence" told him that a coup is likely in April.

Gen Prayuth asked the protest leader to identify the group of military personnel who will conduct the coup as he had no knowledge of it, regardless whether from Thai or foreign intelligence sources.

The army chief said anyone who believe such rumour negatively affects Thai national security can file charges against the person who released it.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra commented similarly as the army chief on Thursday, saying she has not been informed of any coup possibility.

Ms Yingluck said she believed that Mr Jatuporn raised the issue as a warning. She noted that everyone has the right to express opinion, but that such expression should not go beyond the legal limit.

The premier stated that all parties should be relaxed as the military has already made its stance clear on the matter.

Defence Minister Air Chief Marshal Sukampol Suwannathat meanwhile criticised Mr Jatuporn as "talking too much", assuring the public that there was no such thing as a coup in the wings as the red shirt leader claimed.

ACM Sukampol dismissed the claim as ridiculous, asking rhetorically why the CIA had not alerted him but the Red Shirt leader.

The minister stood firm that the top brass never wanted to stage a coup. (MCOT online news)

I love this from the PM Yingluck: "Ms Yingluck said she believed that Mr Jatuporn raised the issue as a warning. She noted that everyone has the right to express opinion, but that such expression should not go beyond the legal limit." Seriously that is your response to one of your direct reports who is spreading rumors and fomenting Red Shirts to be prepared ......." <deleted> --- she should have formally reprimanded him and put on notice, this type of behavior from any member of her team and to the general public is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Threatening to foment terror is not freedom of speech or in her word "right to express opinion, but that such expression should not go beyond the legal limit". What is the legal limit. Is she incapable of making a claritive statement?

  7. Is is 17 or 18 Constitutions that Thailand has had since 1932? Come on ----- Like this PTP government run by a fugitive puppet master out of Dubai or one of the other countries that sold him passports ----- It is an embarrassment! Everyone is going to earn BT300/day minimum! Every Student is going to get a Tablet Computer! ......... oh, we forgot to tell you that it really wasn't going to happen these were just campaign promises!

  8. A few hours ago:

    Posted Today, 12:07

RT @tulsathit: Surapong also says passport can now be issued for Thaksin, "but I don't know if it's been issued."

It was issued 1.5 months ago - but he had no clue? That it was issued on the same day he removed the blacklisting. Even though he removed the blacklist since Thaksin requested a new passport? What does he thinks happens when someone asks for a passport in general?

Well, I'll tell you what doesn't happen...people don't get it flown out with diplomatic mail or diplomat courier.

Unless there is a corrupt government in place.

I would think that countries, that still offer their nationals passport service overseas, would most probably send the passports in diplomatic pouches. Notable exceptions being countries that out-source or centralize, resulting in passport being sent by post. They aren't necessarily pouches either. It's a figure of speech.

There is no figure of speech here! I can go to the US Embassy in Bangkok and request a replacement passport and it will not be done while I wait! Thailand issues from more than one location ---- issued in Bangkok and over nighted through Thai diplomatic services ---- that's not Joe or Jane Public service! That had to have been done at a very HIGH level which no one knows about!

  9. Montenegro revokes Mr T's passport because he harms Montenegro?

Yes, the homeland of international outlaws with big pockets tries to be accepted by the EU.

If this is the case, then the passport for Mr T follows UN laws: Everyone has the human right to have a nationality (passport).

Nope, sorry not everyone, a passport is a privilege not a right, and it has nothing to do with asserting your nationality.

He also holds a well paid for Nicaraguan passport! How is it that something this divisive in the country and the PM Yingluck plays her "I don't know, don't ask me" card? Frightening when Thaksin fomented

the Red Shirt demonstrations ---- incited terrorist acts and they find him harmless!

  10. Kudos to Chalerm for finally identifying the origins of the mysterious men in black. They are the Red on the outside, Red on the inside, "tomatoes".

Illuminating also that cops also took out Sae Daeng, which would explain the precise sniper head shot had to be well-trained.

He added that the mastermind behind these groups was now suffering from Parkinson's disease.

A much-welcomed update to the formerly ubiquitous and over-used, "his name begins with the letter "S"."

The politicos have now progressed to naming chronic ailments as the preferred roundabout means of identifying the accused. I eagerly await the line, "I'm not at liberty to say who she is, but she's morbidly obese."

    he seems to know everything

If there's any doubt that he does, just ask him and he'll tell you. Can't wait for him to become PM after Yingluck collapses..

    1. I suggest you give some sober thought to the Deputy PM's statement. These alleged police officers are alleged to have been acting on behalf of the government of the time. I do not think the term is "tomato". Rather, it is mercenary. The alleged assassins were able to operate with impunity during the administration of the former Democrat government. The apparent promotion of a sub lt. to the rank of general, most likely does not sit well with some careerpolice officers, nor does it sit will with the cadre of professional military officers that were tainted by the actions of these assassins. I also suggest that you reflect on the chaotic state of the former government when it was confronted with the mass public disorder. The police and then the regular army corps had initially refused to take violently on the protestors. Restraint was shown and to a large measure, the government was descending into a state of panic. This is why the Queens Guard units were deployed and regular military units removed from the front lines. There was significant division within the ranks and officer corps as to how to respond,

    2. What's your point? The principal organizer apparently has Parkinsons. It is not unusual for people to contract fatal illnesses.

    3. That's your claim. The Deputy PM is commenting on this specific case. I don't think that this secret was kept secret for very long and most of the key players knew who was involved and who did what. I wouldn't be surprised if the former PM wasn't aware of the identity of the killers.

    4. The Deputy PM has demonstrated caution and prudence with his statements. There is a reason why he is making these statements now. This group is alleged to be continuing its acts of sabotage and terror. It has to be stpped. Thankfully, there is someone in government with the strength and courage to speak out. You can't wait for the Deputy PM to become PM? OK. I don't think he has plans for that, but should the need arise, he would certainly be as capable as former PM Abhisit or the members of the army junta that had previously ruled Thailand.

I'm sorry but you are wrong when you say, " The Deputy PM has demonstrated caution and prudence with his statements." He has not demonstrated any caution or prudence with his continued statements!

He spouts off continuously as if he were the "ALL SEEING EYE". If he knows so much then he knows too much to not possible be involved himself. He is fomenting negative public opinion just like his BOSS Thaksin.

  11. Very interesting piece, containing a few nuggets of truth shining from the muck, and very instructive about the Thai //weltanschauung//

Of course the nation is a fairyland - every modern so-called democracy relies on high production values in its presentation of spin/PR, but Thai culture emphasizes appearances over reality far more than most, and everyone in the know is open about the fact that the underlying reality of governance here has even less to do with public service than in most other countries.

A more effective politician here is simply one who does a better job of "fooling most of the people" more of the time, no one actually believes in the possibility of one that would truly work in the interest of the country's people as a whole.

The fundamental choice is which faction of the corrupt mafia-elite that really run the country to support - in other words, whose ox is getting gored. The so-called leadership of the government is just a puppet show on all sides.

Anyone who actually cares about improving the lot of ordinary Thais knows they need to completely ignore the political/government sphere and work within the private sector, doing the best they can with what they have and who they know to make things better.

Spending your time and energy on Thai politics is just another pointless Moloch pursuit, might as well be playing Connect 4 in the beer bar for all the good it will do.

We all know that Yingluck is nothing else than Thaksin's puppet/clone but just how on earth can you have a "figurehead" at the forefront of the countries national interests, especially at the time of a massive natural disaster!!!! Exactly what does she do other than conveniently miss important meetings and on those rare occasions when she does turn up she sits on the side lines and dodges the bullets to save embarrassement at her obvious short comings on all things political.

No doubt these floods would have tested any governments resolve, but with such a flawed and irresponsible reaction to the floods (borne out by having Thaksin's "school mates", "police buddies" and political stooges) placed in positions to serve HIS INTERESTS only and not chosen on merit and ability is criminal!!!!!

It seems that the Kingdom's priorities in getting the country "back on it's feet" take a distant second with corruption, back stabbing, sniping and impeachment's galore hogging proceedings whilst everything else stays on "the back burner" such as fixing Thailand's woes and dealing with this crisis.

What sickens me is the "Thai attitude" at every turn of events seemingly being - well, what's in it for me!!!! Making capital out of others despair is obscene, but it doesn't stop em, does it!!!!.

    +1

  12. "Chalerm said that many politicians liked to keep money at home and hence the authorities should investigate politicians overseeing various projects"

It might be interesting to check around Chalerm's house. A former policeman buying a 33 million Baht Bentley? Maybe he won the lottery.

Chalerm is the perfect example of the POT Calling the KETTLE Black!

  13. I think that the people in the current should be the last people to start a an impeachment against abhisit looking at their track record during the floods.

Perhaps the 500 relief bags were those that had been packaged with endorsements from Thaksin and his PTP MP's. Now that is the PTP cover up that needs to be revealed and investigated. Once again, PM Yingluck has managed to white wash that story.

  14. I don't understand why the government from that time is being indicted...they were merely quelling a group of terrorist protesters who openly were threatening to fire bomb Bangkok, derail the skytrain, destroy all manner of properties, and who invaded a hospital with intent to harm! and no, I don't have all the evidence from back then to back up this post, but I certainly did see it in the news, heard it from Arisman and his lot, and saw it played out on the TV.

    A couple of things

1 When they get Thaksin back are they going to grill him?

2 Are they saying that the actions of the red shirts were OK?

3 That the government should have ignored them and let them continue to hold down town Bangkok as a hostage burn it down or what ever they felt like doing it was OK to invade hospitals?

Exactly!!!! Thaksin (and the "red shirt" leaders) are MORE responsible than ANYONE ELSE for the deaths as he encouraged them to defy the government purely to serve HIS interests and the "red shirt" leaders should have accepted Abhisits very reasonable offer of an olive branch for peace in exchange for an early election. After first agreeing to this offer they changed their minds and tried to make more capital from the turmoil and in doing so brought the situation to an ugly end with multiple deaths occurring as a consequence!!!!

All the Democrat government were attempting to was bring this unsatisfactory "barricading" of Bangkok to an end and resolve everything by peaceful means but the opposition had other ideas and the rest, as they say, is history!!!.

Exactly! Thaksin fomenting the terrorism by his weekly/daily addresses. Thaksin and the PTP leaders are directly responsible for the fires, terror and deaths. The government did everything possible to maintain peace and order and fairly negotiated. The guilty ones know who they are as does PM Yingluck

  15. It staggers the mind! This fugitive convict --- fomented the PTP redshirts into ANARCHY with weekly, daily TV/Radio propaganda! His sister, PM Yingluck's Foreign Minister Surapong Towichukchaikul, pressured the Japanese government to give this fugitive convict a visa. Foreigners can not enter Japan with a criminal record! How many people and famous artist's have been refused a visa for Japan following some minor misdemeanor?

Get this over with: arrest him, put him in jail. Let him start his sentence --- and then let the strings be pulled while he is serving his sentence. At the same time --- pursue all the other issues Thaksin has been accused of that continue to turn up. Let Thailand take care of its people. If Thaksin is such a great man, then he would have not run away, he would have done his time and by now it would all be finished and all the fires and deaths would not have happened. He's not a man, he's less than! He told people to risk their lives while he's sipping tea --- my how the polo grounds glitter!

The corruption is pervasive! Again, PM Yingluck, the new "Evita" "One has to admire the stage management" and her plausible deniability. As PM isn't everything your responsibility?

  16. Read the first two lines of the article. They ( No names mentioned ) hope to have Bangkok cleaned up for the Kings Birthday tomorrow !! However Ms Shinawatra said that the clean up will take all month. More BS from the goverment that never talks to each other.

PM Yingluck is the new "Evita" --- as the line goes, "One has to admire the stage management"

  17. So if I can get (by whatever means) 1/300th of the population to sign a petition, my multiple to myriad crimes should be forgotten and forgiven? :oAnd this is as per constitution Clause number..................?

It's a Royal Pardon they are seeking.

The 200,000, or the 3 million earlier, are wholly unnecessary, and besides, don't fit the criteria.

The only people in the world that can legally request a Royal Pardon for Thaksin are one of these.

The last who has been crying for the past 2 and a half years:

Paetongtarn Shinawatra Cries: I Want Dad To Be Home

    http://www.thaivisa....dad-to-be-home/

well, Paetongtarn, just sign on the dotted line if you're serious.

    ...

Thaksin could be home today --- he just has to turn himself in and do the right thing and serve his time. If he had done it 2 years ago --- all of this would be MOOT! People of Thailand are still suffering from the floods and PTP red shirts are spending more energy to create an individual amnesty program to bring an escaped convict back to Thailand rather than helping flood victims. Shows you the great skill and management ability of the PM Yinkgluck to keep focus in HER ranks! Or perhaps it is her diarrhea that is keeping her from proper leadership!

  18. This government again showed its ignorant about economic system. You don't just raise salary to improve standard of living. You have to addvalue to the workforce before increasing their salary. If the workforce is thesame why should anyone give them more money? May be instead of trying to makepeople happy with empty promises, educate them to become more valuable andmarket will take care of the rest

Now they have to deal with unemployment

corporate greed has replaced corporate ethics! There was a time when a company cared about its employees, its community and share holders ------ corporate ethics are out the window, GREED is it and no one cares about the employee. They are beholden to Wall Street and their share holders. They outsource the jobs where they pay less and don't have to worry about environmental concerns and the products come back to America the same price before the jobs left.

Everyone, everywhere needs to be paid a LIVING WAGE and benefits. From 1990-2000 Forbes 400 CEO's salaries increased 571%. And companies are crying about paying someone $10/day? SCARY

  19. economic management is essential. tax rebates for cars in a country where only wealthy have them or poorer ones get into debt buying is wasted. If growth goes well under 5%,then the poor suffer,it was ever thus in capitalist world.

We will see if flood mismanagement is mirrored with the country's finances because incompetence is a constant to date with Yinglucks government

Along the same lines as the car tax rebates... with the addition of a personal windfall benefiting the Shinawatra Empire.

from the Tax Deductions For Up To Bt500.000: First Time Home Buyers thread:

Interesting development on the home buyer scheme with the increase in the limit for mortgages to 5 million baht from 2 million earlier.

SC Asset (the Shinawatra company that Yingluck just left and now run by Thaksin's daughter other sister) has 1,700 houses that are now eligible for the scheme.

The potential increase to their real estate business comes to 5.1 Billion Baht.

Score another for the rural poor.

They'll get a tax break when they buy a 5 million baht villa.

    rah rah rah

The Shinwatra clan are brilliant --- and have their hand in every POT! They are ruthless!
