  1. Seems like a lot of comments have their judgement on what caused this accident and blame it on the "thai" way of driving ...

Just imagine driving at 80kph (which is not speeding) and hitting a standing trailer on the side .. this would have this kind of result ... and even if he drove 100kph (which would be over the limit, but who doesn't), it would not make such a big difference.
It's just something that could have been avoided if either of both drivers had payed a bit more attention to the road. It's just sad... no more, no less.

Nice.. but did you think about the fact that this is a cave and not all passages are easy to make. The divers even had to take of their gear at some time. So an inflexible object like that is not going to work in my opinion. Unless of course they will widen such passages.

Maybe I missed something here, but how did those boys get there in the first place ? I mean, surely they wouldn't have crawled through such narrow places when they were exploring the cave (obviously before the flooding came and surprised them). There has to be a passage that is wide enough for them to have walked to the place. Unless they all had speleology lessons before, but with no gear I doubt that's what they were doing. So I think it is quite possible to have such a rescue-tube in there ... but hopefully the water level will decrease enough for them to get out fast and without any harm! Great news, probably the best of the year. Hats off to all those involved in the rescue !!

  3. Love it! But the Thai's overactive imagination would think it's for real......

If you were the restaurant owner would you be concerned or would you think it's just a joke?

Would some of your customers leave quickly and never come back and tell their friends to avoid this 'dangerous' restaurant?

If you had small kids would you be back quickly?

If you were the restaurant owner is that all OK?

    Answers to your questions:

#1 I would have known it was a joke

    # 2. Absolutely not they would tell them it was interesting

    # 3 yes kids love zombies ( unless they are boring)

#4 yes it will not hurt business and could help it.

The Thai are a people that are strongly superstitious, so YES ... it will hurt this guy's business for sure. You clearly are not Thai, nor do you seem to know too much about them judging your response.

  4. Police said Beker Edwakb Francis died on his way to hospital shortly after he jumped from the second floor of the terminal at the spot between Gate 3 and Gate 4 at 0:10 am Friday.

The man said he did not have money to buy plane ticket home so the airport officials were trying to contact the British embassy to locate his relatives.

How did he get through security and immigration to the gates if he had no ticket?

Guess you havent been there much...

  5. I don't understand why people here are surprised she doesn't need to go to jail. Even in Europe it rarely happens that people that cause accidents with fatalities need to go to jail.

They only get life sentence for not being allowed to drive anymore, pay some time at community service(rarely as well) and pay for the damages caused...

Some years ago, a truckdriver smashed through a traffic-jam on the highway, which was there because of no-visibility due to fog. There were many people killed because it set the cars on fire as well and people were stcuk in their vehicles. He only got suspended for driving for a few years and his company payed for the victims ...

  6. What a nice thread.

Just what I was thinking ... these bitches talk about the women as if they're on a cattle-market ...

Maybe the department of person-trafficing should take a look at this ...

It's okay to talk about wanting a relationship with a foreign woman, but don't treath them like pieces of meat that are there to serve your old lazy asses !

  7. i agree, but there's nothing in my comment that states the sharida law. The religion here is sacret, something outstanders can't understand (and after +2 years i am still one of them).

But the crime-rate is extremely low here, steal and your hand is cut off. It makes you think twice before doing anything of the like.

  8. i've been working and living in Saudi Arabia for over 2 years now. Death penalty is quite common here and therefor you can still leave your car open while shopping, get money from an ATM without having to watch your back, etc ...

death penalty in my opinion is a perfect way of keeping down the crimes.

  9. Now come on. We all know what goes on in these establishments. It is no good purposly touching a mans testicles and ask him if he wants masterbation and then go screaming to the police if he tries something on. Most of these girls do it to get extra money(500bt).When men read this they will be too nervous to go to a massage parlour so the girls will have to turn to sex ,even more, to make any money at all. They work in the sex industry so why are they complaining if their is a bit of sex flying around?

This must be one of the most stupid comments i have read in a while!

Did you read beyond the headline?

Nowhere is it indicated, that she offered him "masterbation" (whatever that may be).

    He tried to RAPE her!

That is different from "a bit of sex flying around"!

But great to see, that there is always one ...or two...who are willing to turn the victim/ offender- equation around!

If I may correct a misconception here.

It is only foreigners who normally get hand jobs in Thai massage parlours.

A Thai man would normally expect full sex for the same (or less) charge.

A Thai massage lady I know quite well, stated, foreigners don't understand massage parlours, so you can get away with the lesser service.

What was happening as described in the OP, the Thai man was expecting normal service (full sex), for some reason (unknown to us) it didn't happen.

there are many massage parlors where the ladies offer only massages, nothing else. thrre are even places where, if the lady or custumor try anything of the sort, get removed from the parlor immediately. Don't write comments that generalise all these establishments as being 'sex-shops'.

  10. I've only ever had 2 massages in Thailand.

    1. the female tried to grope me.

    2. the male tried to grope me.

Neither incident was in a private room.

I avoid massages as I don't like being groped, and certainly am not going to pay to be groped.

In this case, who can tell what happened, her word against an unconscious and beaten man who may, or may not have been drunk at the time.

people with your kind of attitude and impression of Thailand should just stay home or go to another country ...

  11. would have thought he would have left a suicide note somewhere if he planned to do this or maybe a moment of madness implusive dicession who knows.

would have to check his phone i suppose to see if he had any bad news or problems

The clear majority of suicides do NOT leave notes. Studies have shown (and logic would indicate) that there are many reasons why someone would not leave a note and by no means is it always the due to the act being an impulsive one.

As an ex police officer,I can tell you about 90% of suicides DO leave notes, where do you get your facts, another expert!

Where do I get my facts? From research -- though I haven't claimed to be the expert that you apparently see yourself as.

In 2005, Gelder, Mayou, and Geddes concluded it was about 1 in 6 that left a note. Another researcher (Dr. Leenaars - who is internationally renowned for his work in suicide prevention and his study of suicide) estimates it ranges from 12 - 37% of suicides that leave a note. Dr. Howard Rosenthal says it's between 15 - 25%. Other research indicates it's 25 - 33%.

I've never seen anything anywhere near 90% -- and it defies logic -- but if you can show me some evidence of my error, I'd be pleased to know of it.

    Right on !

  12. Thailand roads are not safe.

I repeat for the white people looking to visit here - Thailand roads are not safe.

Every single road in the Kingdom is crazy dangerous. I risk my life driving my car 15 minutes to Macro. At least 10 speeding pickup trucks, buses, or 10-wheelers fly past me on every trip (at 130-150km+).

    Thailand roads are not safe.

Agreed! I spent the last 2 years behind the wheel while living outside of Bangkok and I eventually lost count of the near death experiences I narrowly escaped. Most of the time it was the commercial vehicles (buses, trucks, and vans) I had to watch out for as the majority of the drivers operate their vehicles like they were in Formula One. angry.png

I've been driving in Bangkok and neighbouring towns, villages, ... for over 6 years now and I've never had any accident ... so go figure. And I 'm not Thai. By the way, did you ever drive a car in Saoudi Arabia ? They are far more dangerous drivers then Thai. Oh yes, and I've driven there also with no accidents.
