  1. IA,

    Verry sorry to hear this.

I checked right-away with the in-laws but unfortunatly we don't have any pens free for the moment.

Hope someone can help you !

    All the best,

    Frank

Hopefully you have all resolved the permit issues I spoke of last year. Unfortunately I have not and now face a position where I cannot win against the small minds of the villagers and their collective schemes. If I push the buttons to fix things, then I will be awake nights for fear that someone slips the pigs a bait.

The only viable options are to move the pigs or sell the whole herd. Financially building a new sty is not an option hence I am looking for a good home for 19 pigs that all fit into a breeding herd. In a week or so, that option will narrow to sale as meat pigs.

To anyone who can offer a spot in their herd for these pigs, I would rather see them go there then under the knife. Whilst I will not give them away I need to move them. Open to suggestions guys and as beaten up and angered as I am I have to admit I need some help.

  2. IA,

I 've send an SMS to Sam with further info about this boar, but didn't get any reaction.

Guess he doesn't want to sell after all ...

Seems it was a wild goose chase, sorry about that. Still it was good to catch up again. Glad the little guy is behaving himself.

    No problem

Is anyone interested in a purebreed Pietrain boar (around 200 kg). You have to be quick as the owner needs to sell NOW. I would buy this pig if I had an eye for the breed.

Coxy, I have four Durocs boars at that weight if you want one of those.

  4. Betagro prices went up 3% on1august.

So I found out this morning at the feed store. But I feel there will be another jump yet. It would not surprise me to see another 3 to 5% before year end.

Bought today Betagro 304 @ 370 THB. First time, think price is ok.

  5. Very curious Brabo, are your pigs raised solely for sales to Thais or do you eat some yourself. Reason I ask is all the pork raised in my area is about 99% fat and the Thais seem to like it like that. I do not know if it is because the pigs get no exercise or it is the breed but there is no way you could get a cut of pork like you would buy at Big C etc. Again, just curious and congrats on being a successful moo rancher.

    BB,

Village raised piglets are usually not the best of pedigree but the largest factor in the fat content is the feed. The pigs diet is low in protein and high in fibre and fats. Raising pigs is capital intensive and most of the cost is feeding them. Larger farms use more balanced diets tuned to the stage of growth. Their pigs are grown to achieve certain backfat and body score conditions to suit customers like Big C and Tesco.

I grow duroc pigs for the qualities of their meat which are markedly different to the standard white pigs.

    'BuckarooBanzai'

As IsaanAussie posted, the difference is made by the feed, the breed, the finishing boar, the envirement and treating ( as less stress for the pigs as possible ).

My in-laws even let them listen to music and claim the pigs like it.intheclub.gif They are all washed ( =massaged ? LOL) by hand every day. All of this is normal for a VIP farm offcourse giggle.gif

post-140159-0-43441300-1343965006_thumb.This personal treatment is possible becourse of the low labourcost, compaired with Europe. The pigs are raised with love and I do beleive that this personal touch makes a big difference in meatquality.

We sell to Thai but Farangs in the neighborhood prefere to buy our pigs to when they have a party. Even if the price is a bit higher, compared with the village raised pigs. Indeed I was told that Thai like more fat on there pigs, but our customers tell us, they like our pigs becourse of the high quality meat and not to much fat.

For fattening pigs we use F1 sows with a Duroc or Pietrain finishing boar.

  6. A few days ago, I got a phonecall from a forum-member who asked me if I would like to buy some Pietrain gilts and piglets.

Today I received a phonecall from another verry nice forum-member. Would I like to buy some Packchong 5?

Offcourse I would like to, but dam_n, I don't have any empty pens and the new sty is still in progress!!! mad.gif

My in-laws are working verry hard but there is still a lot of work to do. On top of this, my plan of going to the farm is delayed with a few weeks becourse several customers from my other bussines just arrived in LOS.

For the moment, I am trying to find out the differences between Packchong 1-2-3-4 and 5. I do know that 3 and 5 are the most wanted but I don't have any clue why.

Are the Packchong concidered as breeds or hybrids?

Does anyone have pics of them?

Many thanks to the forum-members !!!

  7. back to sunny Surin(lol) later today, the last couple of sows have been good,9 - 10.looking strong and healthy, can,t wait to see them with my own eyes ,had a couple of good results in the last 3 days,5 bags of food from birth,108 kg + 98 kg.they say there are some big ones left as well ,,but there are some about 80 + smile.png out of the 16 left.,,this is an old picture

  8. big problem with a sow just given birth.7 piglets.1 which looked nearly dead(and died) and the others looked ok.but the problem was that they came out very slowly the wrong way(breached),the sow we have treated with ya which what we were told to use ,she is very sick ,skin turned blue a lot over her body,no milk from her,2 more have died, and the 4 that is left have been moved to a new sow that gave birth to 10 piglets, but 1 of the 4 looks very sick,so i hope the 3 survive, and the sow makes it,. i know this is pig farming, ups and downs, but this month sick.gif , Ian

  9. Check out http://www.rakbankerd.com for the official prices every day.

Today the price for live pigs in Thailand varied from 54 to 66 THB/kg. A big difference, I think.

Maybe a backup to sell at higher prices?

    Frank

This difference is normal. Sell in Chiang Mai or sell in Isaan. TIT, prices go with the territory and the pocket books. I am in Isaan as are you, we are approaching lent and the prices will go down. Don't think backup plan, think basic market!

This price @ 66 THB is in Buriram (Isaan as you know)

it must be a mistake Frank,my wife has phoned a couple of people in Buri-ram,they laughed. ;sad.png

I checked today again, Last prices from friday 20/07, same farm in Buriram @ 66 THB. Maybe they have golden pigs ?

Maybe you can ask the wife to check the site. The name of the farm is mentioned.

  10. Revar, been there done that with the scorpion bites, man that hurts and does not go away quickly, you have my sympathy.

CPPFarm, I used to follow the pig333 site for prices but since last quarter of last year their reporting on Thai prices has been rubbish. No idea on the rest of the world. If you want current prices follow the CP or Betagro lists or swinethailand for details regionally.

Any body else who wants piglets I have about 20 or so available as well. Boars and gilts.

As I said before. Keep an eye open for a nice (uncastrated) Duroc boar for me. Will bye one from you sure.

    Frank

  11. Just ordered 10 new piglets to ne delivered in two weeks at around 12+ kg. They are supposed to be 50% packchong and 50% duroc. Sound like a very good combination.

    He Revar,

I tryed to call you but cannot get connection. Can you call me?

    Verry Interrested in this Packchong.

  12. Buyers around here Dankhuntod vary between 47 and 60. The one buying at 47 tells everybody that the prices have dropped. She was the highest paying buyer a couple of months ago buying only 2 bath between official cp price. Now that people ask for/trust her she tries this. I am collecting addresses from sites with prices to show her. She always buys 40+ pigs so peple check with us first. I thinks she teucks them to a higher price region.

The lesson is to always ask for prices from as many buyers as possible.

Frank, I cant read thai, can you post the excact link to the subpage with prices?

Btw my twlephone and therefor internet were broken, thats why I have been quiet.
