  1. Does absolutely everything close that day or will there be anything to do at all, dont necessarily have to get drunk but if there is nothing else to do that day i might as well stock up on the beer and have a few in the hotel, bit like Good Friday in Ireland i suppose. Anyone any idea's???

    Cheers

if you don't mind huge crowds, Sanam Luang in front of the Grand Palace will have the biggest celebrations, from concerts to a huge boxing tournament and firework display

  2. There are quite a few places, when I lived in Ubon I used to go to theZONE bar which is on the main road through Ubon not far from Thungsrimuang park, they have a couple of big screens in there and several smaller ones, only downside is the live band playing simultaniously can be a bit distracting, but most of the places that have it on big screen are in the Bar/restauant with live band style. There is also Mr M's which also has big screen, but is outdoor and not far along the same road from the zone is another similar bar called Swing

  3. Laithong and Nevada are both good if you want to pay around the 1000 baht mark

I f you want a little cheaper there is the Montana and the Tokyo which have clean decent enough, though fairly basic air-con rooms for around 400-500 a night, both not far from each other on the main Chaiyangkun road near to Thungsrimuang park

  4. Ive done the border run to Chong Mek many times. You can get a 30 day on arrival there no trouble. you need to have a Lao visa, but can now get one at ChongMek for the usual 30 dollars. The Lao immigration guys like to try and charge another 50 baht each time for the entry stamp also! Ive never heard anything about there being a consulate in Pakse though so if you wanted a 60 day tourist visa then I think you would need to go to Savannakhet. You can do that in one day though if you get the first bus to Mukdahan from Ubon as they issue the tourist visa's on the same day of application at around 3 in the afternoon, which gives you time toget the last boat and then last bus back to Ubon.

  5. Sor Vorapin now has two locations; both are far downtown. They are a rather expensive gym but still cheaper than some others. The famous one now in Talingchun is Kaewsamrit. Their top fight, Anuwat Kaewsamrit, won Fighter Of The Year twice in a row. That camp has turned out some good champion fighters, both Thai and foreign. They have an English guy who takes care of all the foreign trainees.

    Anuwat Kaewsamrit

Ive heard he is very good possibly going to switch to international boxing in future, real hard puncher :o

  6. Heres a teaser , I once trained alongside Rattanapol , what was the name if the Gym?

And what were the monthly rates for a farang, in 1991?

    :o

Sor Vorapin and I would hazard a guess around 8 or 9 grand for all inclusive. Was that at the gym in Talingchan after they moved from Khaosan area?

    :D:D

  7. Obtaining a 1 Year Licence

Would a UK driving licence be sufficiant, have read so many different ways of obtaining a d.l i am somewhat confused now! If not and I have to take a test what do i do if i have no car? hire one or something?

    Cheers in advance

I got a one year licence with my photocard part of my u.k licence. I went to the office near Jatujak and they asked if I had International drivers permit, I said no but showed them my u.k photocard licence. The women dealing with me showed it to her superior who said that was o.k and I just had to have it photocopied both sides and got the licence with the only test required the colour blindness and reaction test, was in and out in 30 mins
