Thanks, lopburi3 and Petrogas for raising this issue.
My Thai partner and I have been back in Scotland for 6 weeks, but she has to return to CM for work etc soon. Her KLM return flight was cancelled, and we are also told the only option is a repatriation flight. Endless attempts to contact the Thai embassy in London have failed. The phone menu options just lead you in circles, clearly like so many of them in business this was written by a sadist.
If anyone can offer any help or advice about how we should tackle this (Whilst we still retain some sanity!) I/we would be very grateful.
To register for a repatriation flight , you must complete the registration online, from a link on their website. Go to Thaiembassy.org, scroll down and choose the Uk as your country, there Will be two links, left is for English, right is for Thai, when you get to the homepage, on the news feed on the right hand side there will be a link to repatriation flights, giving full details of how to register and requirements for the embassy. There were three flights released for August which are all fully booked, the flights are made up of , 300 Thais and 50 Europeans. They will release more flights in September, with Thai airways, the cost is £698 one way.
The requirements for Thais are less exhaustive than Europeans travelling, on arrival they will be required to spend two weeks in state quarantine. My mate who was on last Sunday’s flight told me he asked some Thais on the flight where they would be spending their quarantine time, and none had been told where they were going. Hope this is of some help, good luck ????

Up to seven days in advance, glad the TB tests were ok, major hurdle which some people don't realise.

You can fill the online application before you have all the supporting documents , to keep the application live you have to log in to the visa4uk website every 6 days, you can do this indefinitely until you are ready to pay and submit the application . When you submit the application you must book an appontment within 30 days.
You can only book an appointment 7 days in advance, this rolls forward on a daily basis.
You cannot submit the application at VFS until you have all the supporting documentation.
I hope you are aware that your wife and daughter if she is over 11 years of age , require a TB test at the IOM in Bangkok , best to get this done as soon as possible because if they find something they are not happy with she will have to have a sputum test which requires a wait of 8 weeks for the results. My advice is get this test done before you submit and pay for the visa online.
Your wife is also required to attain an A1 English test pass, which can be taken at BULATS in Bangkok.
I hope this helps, I have just submitted my wife's settlement visa after waiting two months for her sputum test results which thankfully were negative .

I am coming to Thailand in a couple of days and have been reading the forums for the best way to obtain mobile internet on my Asus eee pc 701 up in the northeast where i know there is no 3g available.( mukdahan region).
I am currently using a Huawei usb modem E172 on the Vodafone network in the UK which i am very happy with , especially as it was easy to set up with on Linux which is totally new to me.
From what i have read already i had assumed i would have to use a phone with a a usb cable to try and get a connection and linux has some issues with recongising some phones so i was prepared to have windows xp installed to try and get round this issue.
What i would like to know is if i get my Usb modem stick unlocked on the net in the UK which i can do for approx £15,would i be able to use a DTAC or AIS internet sim card to get mobile internet although they are not 3g.
Thanks

Thanks for your advice,I think i will play safe and go down the phone route.Just one more question,I am able to get a nokia n95 in the UK as an upgrade,if I unlock the phone in the uk will i be able to get EDGE in thailand by just buying a sim card from AIS when i arrive?
Thanks

I think the CDMA EVDO (CAT) modem will cost you about 12,000 baht. Not all of Issan has coverage and apparently they are going to pull the plug on the entire CDMA system. I wouldn't take a chance.
An EDGE capable phone is a sure thing. I switch SIM cards back and forth between AIS and Dtac. AIS is faster at the moment. It may be different tomorrow.

My apologies, should read northeast in the title bar,Just got up!

HI Guys,
I am visiting Thailand soon and need some advice on the best mobile internet options if I am going up to Issan .I have an eee pc and gather from what I have read so far i can either use a CAT usb modem or an edge enabled phone as a modem, with either an AIS/DTAC sim card.
The place i am visiting is about 45 kms southwest of Mukdahan ,primarily i want to be able to use skype from there, anyone up in that neck of the woods had any experience as regards coverage and quality?
I want to get the hardware before going upcountry hence the advice, rather than buy then try. and probably fail miserably!
Thanks.
