  1. 'As a local village headman in Koh Tao announced to give one million baht cash reward to police if they have substantial evidence to implicate him and his family in the murder of the two British tourists,'

Erm, might want to think about that a little more.......or at least have a family meeting first.

Sounds like a childs last ditch attempt at proving his family's innocence to the public, it would of sounded more credible if he offered up the one million to the reward fund regardless of who the killers are.

Of course he and the police will be taking this as an acceptance of guilt and if theres substantial evidence he's willing to pay one million for that evidence to prove otherwise or for a lesser sentence plea bargain.

I witnessed a Thai murder on Samui over tens ago, the victim was the son of a connected island family and the murderers a prominent Samui business owner from the south of Thailand and his right hand man. After months of negociations at the business premises with van loads of Surat police the younger brother of the right hand man was charged with it, he did less than three years.

  2. Dogs and Cats in Restaurants does not appear to concern people here.

Maybe they have never been aware that the dog licks his bum and other bits and then brings money to your table in his mouth.

    Nice

So what? You've already eaten and its just like handling anything else thats been in a dogs mouth like a toy or a ball.

  3. I would actually be surprised if the FBI provided DNA testing assistance in this case.

Not because they aren't willing to help in a criminal investigation in another country ...

But because there is a very important concept in criminal investigations and prosecutions called "Chain of Custody" or "Chain of Evidence".

This means that if the police cannot verify exactly what has happened to the evidence from the time it was discovered to the time it was tested, and later to the time it is presented at trial, it is considered unreliable and cannot be used as evidence in court.

It goes without saying that in this case, the chain of custody of any and all evidence would be highly suspect by U.S. standards.

So I don't think the FBI will put themselves in a position of verifying or lending credibility to any evidence that they cannot confirm 100% meets these standards ... i.e. none of the evidence collected from a trampled crime scene and collected and handled by who knows how many semi-qualified or unqualified investigators.

As with all of this, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

So how many semi-qualified or unqualified investigators do you think handled the semen DNA?

  4. Skynews has a news story on CCTV footage taken in front of an ATM at 0127 showing David walking along in short pants and shaking hands with an Asian man wearing a shirt with 9 on the back and dark long pants. There is further CCTV footage at 0156 taken in front of a roti cart. They say they've handed the footage over to Thai police.

    http://news.sky.com/story/1338593/thailand-cctv-of-british-man-killed-on-beach

How come a news team from the UK managed to get hold of this footage and the police didn't?

Probably because the news team searched the surrounding area whilst the police only searched the immediate area.

What are the timestamps on the cctv of the suspect wearing the victims shorts?

  5. I thought he was wanting a visa or extension of stay not just a work permit.

The school would have to deduct taxes and pay social security along with pay the salary.

If he has a valid multiple entry non-o based upon marriage he could get the work permit. If he was on an extension of stay based upon marriage when he got divorced he lost it then.

He is open to any solution.

Currently multi non o just expired and on last 90 days.

If he gets a work permit, whats the minimum tax and social the school would need to pay, and then still have to border run every 90 days?

Seems like the easiest is an ED visa or pay a Thai to get married just for the papers.

No wonder the system gets abused when they make it impossible to stay here legitimately, for example:

Forty year old farang, got loads of money, doesn't need/want to work, doesn't need/want a business, already fluent in Thai, seriously what can these people do to stay here for a few years?

  6. You need to be working for a registered company or business to get a work permit.

Whether you need to get a visa and make border runs every 90 days would depend upon the company for business. It it is qualified and your salary was high enough you could get a one year extension of stay.

Edit: I he was working with a foreign owned company and could get some documents he might be able to get a multiple entry non-b visa.

Non-o visas are no longer being issued to visit friends.

So lets say for example his Thai friend owns a language school and its a registered business, and they will say he is working there as a teacher on an average teachers salary, even though he wouldn't be working there.

Does he need to get a visa for this or just get a work permit with the non o he has now, and from where? And does he do 90 day checks at immigration office or 90 day border runs?

  7. All of these solutions seem not legitimate.

Setting up a company, he works online and paid from abroad, is it legal to set up a company solely for obtaining a work permit?

Education visa, again it will be obtaining a visa solely for staying here, not for learning Thai, I thought they was clamping down on this abuse of the ed visas?

Is there no legitimate visa for people who don't work and not wishing to marry?

I read a few years ago people where obtaining non o visas from Perth for reasons of visiting friends, is this still possible?

  8. Can anyone confirm if it's possible to use the Bangkok Bank ATM card for payment? The one for the basic savings account issued to us falang. This card has the VISA logo and can be used for online purchasing, unlike (in my experience) the SCB one, so I'm hoping it's going to be ok for this.

Another concern for me is all this random waiting for a new passport with no communication. I'm between jobs and need to get onto a (hopefully double entry) Tourist visa next week. I'm not even sure how that's going to work (ie. extensions + re-entry) once I'm on some kind of temporary document. When I see people quoting a potential 6 month wait even a full 180 day visa is looking scary, especially given I could really do with having the passport asap for a new employer to start a Non Imm B process. The border run tightening came at the worst possible time.

You need to ask BKK Bank specifically if your ATM card will work for a UK Pound transaction in Liverpool, Trendy just take you card details and forward them to Liverpool with your application papers..

You get to keep your passport whilst the application is in process, however as soon as you apply to Trendy for a new replacement, your British Passport is invalid for travel.

There is no temporary document issued as standard for the period between your application and collection of the new Passport, a period which currently looks to be working out at around 8 weeks.

If it's possible, then much better you get your visa and a 60 day entry, immediately before applying to Trendy - a 30 day extension should be possible at your local immigration as they will not know tat your passport is cancelled.

    .

Thanks very much for the info!

Being able to keep my old passport, as opposed to having a temporary document, I think is much better, despite being unable to use it to travel.

Yes, my idea is to get onto the 60 days and apply asap.

I sure hope I'm lucky to get the new passport back fast (I doubt it) or visa extension on my old one will go smoothly because I have some visa exempt stamps. If they make a fuss about that maybe I would be forced to let them know I am still waiting for a valid document!

It's my own stupid fault for assuming decades of border runs (for other people) would not get tightened right after I took time out after my last job; and my own stupid fault for not organising the passport sooner, rather than going through a passport change at the same time as looking for new work.

If I can get out of this alive and don't learn my lessons I'll definitely deserve everything I get the next time. I've been here long enough to know better than to assume things won't change.

You can apply for an emergency travel document when you make the application, costs 95 pound

    https://www.gov.uk/emergency-travel-document

  9. You can't travel with it after you’ve applied for a new one - but you will be able to keep your existing passport for ID purposes.

    How would they know?

Proof of residency? I assume that is all out the window as if you go to the embassy it's pretty clear where you are living.

The passport contains an electronic chip, enabling electronic cancellation. This fact would be made known to most immigration offices at airports and land borders. However there is one border crossing into Cambodia where they do not scan passports on either side....................................if you fancy getting away whilst waiting an eternity for a new passport.!

Thats a joke, MH370 was a perfect example of how non existent immigration checks are around SEA. They may scan passports but you can bet your bottom dollar its only for their own records, there won't be any database checks.

  10. Hi, what are the best options for someone who is 42 yrs old from UK, single and wanting to stay here long term, like retirement.

He has been here several years already with NON o marriage visa but has recently divorced.

He works online and all money comes from overseas.

He is looking at getting married again just for the sake of the NON o visa or doing the education visa, but would rather not do either.

What would be the correct law abiding way for him to stay here long term?

    Regards

  11. I currently have a standard 3bb one port modem to my desktop and want to share my connection with another house maybe 30 meters across the soi, would these products do the job?

  12. Hi, I'm moving house next week to near the Bangrak market on the airport road so might change my internet while I'm at it.

I'm currently on 3BB premier 3mb package at 1066B, the standard package was no good for me, I think it was FTP or something, was a long time back.

From reading this thread I take it TOT fibre is the way to go. Just wondering if it has all the bells and whistles that the premier package has for FTP and the other stuff thats blocked with standard packages?

Also is it twelve months contract for farangs and whats the installation and standard router costs?

What does it have for FTP that is blocked on standard packages? Can you tell me more about this please?

Sent from my iPad using ThaiVisa app

I'm not sure exactly what it was, maybe port 25 like angryfarang says, but when I first got 3BB it didn't work on the standard package and somebody told me I needed the Premier package so I upgraded and it worked. I didn't ask them anything about port 25, I just upgraded the package.

  14. Thanks for info. I didn't receive any email about it. The webmail doesn't work either.

Luckily I only used that email for a few website registrations for wanting to keep it spam free as I used it for notifications on 3 web servers, each with about 50 domains each, that shouldn't be a problem as should be able to modify multiple accounts on each server. The problem will be having to manually change 150 wordpress installs, nightmare.

You'd of thought they would of sent out a few emails instead of just one before pulling the plug annoyed.gif
