The Aussies are laughing ... laugh.png

No exchange issues there ... near an all time 10 year high against the Baht.

    .

David where have you been looking, the baht to Oz dollar has declined steadily since Xmas, I know the TG tells me most days 555

I have to agree, today the oz dollar was for sale at 30 .07 at kasikorn ,the lowest i have seen for a few years. Also with the changes to non resident status which i have been flagged after 2 years out of country,i am no longer entitled to medicare at home and now pay 39% tax with no threshold on rental properties, life is getting tougher here.

Lucky for me i purchased a residence when the exhange rates were high.I also allowed for a 40% decline in currency when i first moved here,so not as bad off as some.

I read an article saying the average household in australia now spends $883 a month on electric and water, thats 28000bht a month!! i can't afford to live in australia any more.

  2. Thanks for your input, I never intended to buy a golf membership, I inquired purely out of curiosity, the fees are way too high, the service provided way too low, I play now and again because I can not stand these useless lazy forced upon you caddies, plus everything is hiked way above what you would normally pay away from the course, not all are bad though, I have had a couple of excellent caddies, yes I still think people who have a lot of money are lucky to be able to afford these high fee memberships, personally I would never part with so much money considering what is offered!!

some good quality golf courses offer life membership, and then all you pay is a yearly maintenance fee.If you don't want to play anymore the life membership can be sold, some of these memberships have appreciated in price over the years.Makes it a very economical way of playing

  3. there is an aussie bar in takiab, its called beer oclock.Theres also the hashhouse harriers which is a social group who have the motto a drinking club that runs, also a bike riding club which is a extension of this group.

There is a hackers golf club called the bushwhackers that play all the free and cheap golf courses around hua hin,its supposed to be a bit of a laugh.

You also have all the kite surfing hangouts along khao kalok beach as well.

  4. thanks for the feedback,i have been getting the large 15l bottles delivered to house,i noticed that sometimes the inside of the bottles had a green tint to them,i also had lower back aches.I started filtering the bottles and found the water tasted better and i also had no more lower back aches.

I think i'll avoid drinking/filtering the local govt water.

  5. I recently purchased a water filter jug,the brand is brita and theyhave a replaceable filter.

I initially bought it to filter the bottled water which gets delivered in the large 15 litre bottles to the house.

My question is do you think i could use it to filter the government tap water and make it drinkable

  6. Come again? Have you ever been to Australia? This sounds like a British thing

Really? So Thai Wife type sites never hit Oz prior to the internet?

    @MrRealDeal....excellent post.

Poms are obsessed with what their mates will think of their Asian wives down the pub. This is never an issue in Australia.

I think it all depends on the couple whether or not punters in the pub will care.

If there is an obvious age gap and/or an obvious gap in physical appearance then i think a lot of guys worry about what others think

  7. @jingjoe8 that looks great, will have a look online and see what I can see.

I'd have to say I prefer the beaches of Samui to Hua Hin. Hua Hin isn't a nice beach IMO. All those umbrellas and covered seating areas aren't nice at all.

The beaches on the northern side of Samui are where I'd like to go, from all the places I've been to so far, but not sure budget would allow.

thung wua laen also known as cabana beach, great diving and snorkelling at the nearby islands,by the way the local amphur have signs up in thai and english banning umbrellas and hawkers on the beach.

Real beach bars and beach cafes...no bargirl bars, good or bad depends on what you are after.

Most of the time you have the beach to yourself, except weerkends when the locals come for a swim

  8. so people concerned that the course would fail due to lack of numbers can put those fears to rest.

Good to know that the course will complete (due to enough customers students taking the course) but we still don't know how accepted the qualification will be by employers. I guess we will have to wait and see what happens when people start applying for jobs in a few years time.

Why would employers care about the qualification,if it is approved by the m.o.e isn't that enough.

Here you have 60 students who want to teach and are doing a 3 year long degree, which is probably more appropriate to teaching than some young backpacker with a degree in political science or arts and wants to teach to bankroll is drinking, partying in thailand.

I think good on them for doing what they can to legitimize their teaching.

  9. buffalo rescue,if you are a non resident for tax purposes in australia(as i am) you pay no tax on foreign shares, however you still have to pay tax on dividends earned in thailand(i think 15%) but there is no capital gains tax here.

I am starting to move money out of oz because as a non resident i pay 32.5% tax now on all money earned on the first $80000,except bank interest which is 10%fully franked divs are not taxed again, but you don't get the franking credits back either.

  10. Can you watch live shows such as the premier league?

With my vpn which is a paid service,i can watch most of the shows i want via the tv stations catch up service normally the next day,i can switch my ip address to usa, australia,uk and all of europe and other countries which allows me to get around geoblocking in those countries.Quite good streaming, but at the moment i am on a mid range internet package and will upgrade to a better service.I don't get any live sports.

  11. what is the benefit of thai expat and uktv over having a vpn address and watching catchup shows for free?

I imagine you can watch tv live with these items, but with the time difference is it that important?

I love watching uk tv shows can someone explain the benefit

With my vpn address i can watch the majority of uk tv shows a day after they are broadcasted

  12. Yu'p thai price and falang price, it here and in many other countries, is it fair ?

but it would be concidered aracist thing in OZ.

We have double pricing in cairns australia, most local attractions give 50% discount to locals(proof of drivers license) twice the price for the tourists and all the other:" foreign muck" that we can rip off at double the prices, same as cheaper drinks in clubs/bars for us and double for the" outsiders"...............to be serious it makes sense to give locals a discount, they are the ones who will keep the places open in quiet times

  13. Try Agoda for some ideas-they have been having sales some rooms from $25. Find the advertised hotels phone number or email address and contact them.

check the total at the end with agoda,i was going to book a cheap hotel 1500bht a room but after checking the total cost the hotel was charging a compulsory 3500bht for a gala dinner on nye, seem a very commonadd on new years charge fro some hotels
