  1. ok, so they gave me a fourth tourist visa in a row in penang! so i'm happy about that. problem is, they said i wouldn't get another tourist visa... they put a red stamp on the new visa saying:

Remark; The holder of this passport travels to Thailand under a tourist visa several times which may result in refusal of a visa in the future.

i asked about other kinds of visa and the guy said that's no problem if i have the paperwork for a type B or O visa for instance, but not another tourist visa. after reading what some other people have written, maybe i'll still be able to get one from laos or just do a few 15 border hops... or get a new passport?! (only have 6 pages left empty now). my advice would be if you're going to penang to get a tourist visa, hire a moped (from h.s. sam book store - west end of chulia st. only 20 rm, deposit 150 rm) and go and do it youself. the guy at the consulate said he woudn't normally give another visa, but he felt generous! ie. he will tell you if ur gonna get it or not before having to pay 110 rm. if i had given it to banana, i would most likely not have got the visa and lost 110 rm plus 30 odd ringit service charge!

also, if you want to book travel and are in chulia st, go to hs sam book store... got ticket to koh lanta for 75rm, it would have been 88rm from banana. plus the guy is a very nice man too! :)

  2. hi, is this still a problem in penang??

i have had three back to back tourist visa's from - kl, penang, kl + 30days extension. i have just booked my minibus to penang tomorrow and then saw this thread, now it's got me pretty worried violin.gif

i also have a previous tourist visa from penang from two years ago.. could do with an up to date definitive answer: has someone been there in the past 3 months with a similar status to me?? and what was the outcome??!

i was going to get banana to do it for me this time, but having read some of the earlier posts, i'll hire a moped and take it myself!

  3. This is not exactly what you are asking for but what most of us do on KPG is wait for the water guy who comes by on his motorbike and sidecar. I pay 15 thb in Baan Tai and was paying 20 thb in Chaloklum for 20 liter jugs (you have to return the jug). I don't know of any water machines anywhere else but there could be.

cheers for the advice, do you know of a way of contacting this water-guy? the RO machine actually works out slightly cheaper (4 x 6L bottles for 10b!) , but as i live near baan tai it would be nice to have it delivered instead!

  4. i don't have a water filter at home so i tend to fill up 6 litre bottles at the reverse osmosis machine.

the only one i have found so far on the island is the one in haad rin near the taxi rank - near the police station.

this is a bit of a mission to get to and ever time i go with my bottles it's switch off (when i go past it without my bottles it's always on!!).

does anyone know of any others on the island (koh Phangan)???

    surely there must be more?

  5. Koh Phangan is surly better option to these days better than Bangkok or the North.

Don't expect to find any bread at the seven and other shops are not as full as in other days.

Yet, there is no shortage in nothing really, and the sky are sunny...

i can still buy fresh bread from my local thai shop on koh phangan, it's made fresh at the bottle bay bakery (though it is 58baht).

apart from the may empty shelves at lotus and bakery section at 7, kpg is fine and there isn't a mad panic buy or price hike :-)

  6. Rick: No I was willing to pay the full price of 200B and I was smiling and in a good mood. I remember a few months ago going through the same market and some people I knew stopped me to chat. One of the vendors stepped in and said to them that I was a very bad farang, but since they knew me, we all just ignored him.

And as far as asking a school girl where she attends school, I have done this all over the world with no problem. Asking them out on a date is another matter entirely! It was obvious that I was not trying to pick her up. Anybody out there with teenage daughters, would you attack a man for asking her where or if she went to school? You would probably listen closely to make sure of his intentions, but just ignore him when it was obvious that he was just being kind.

maybe the guy was having a bad day / been messed around by farang already and misconstrued what you said as inferring she wasn't been schooled... in fact, maybe she doesn't go to school, works instead and you touched a nerve?!

would you ask someone in england, clearly of school age if they attended school?? i should hope not, it's patronising at best.

as for rising levels of hatred for forangs, probably attributed to 'bad tourists.' why not move away from the tourist hot spot chaweng??!whistling.gif

  7. <div>she's a beauty! love the kit, have seen many tyga kits before but this one really suits it with the colour scheme. i bet u miss her? - i had a cbr400 too, was a nc23 tri arm, but it was mint in urban tiger; silver plus flame colours... sold her to move out here, kills me when i see the 'fake' superbike 125's or 250's, but especially when i rarely see a honda nc21/23/29/30 etc...<img src="http://static.thaivisa.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/crying.gif" alt=":crying:" class="bbc_emoticon"></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>
