  1. Some people are simply evil, but this Yabba stuff is a real problem here.

A lad here got addicted to it. A once bright lad, good at school, is now a gibbering nutter. Proper psychiatric case. He's not the only one either. You see them in the village, although they haven't taken the stuff for years the long term effects remain. They stumble around the streets and suddenly either break into a little song and dance routine, start simulating sex acts or just start howling at lampposts and passing motor vehicles.

    It's quite unnerving.

Youre not wrong about the problems with it but talking about this specifically, he was 35 and the article said he'd only got into drugs recently.

  2. Obviously you can't label around a billion or so people with a certain way to attract a mate IE Internet dating but I'm sure there is a point with the OP's post somewhere.

Thing is, sooooo many men that come to SE Asia, and especially Thailand, to find a " Partner " with how I see it, lack a hell of a lot of social skills, can be extremely insecure of their own appearance, their weight and hair loss for example and the Internet gives them the security that with the click of a butting, they do or don't interact with someone.

Many of these men feel intimidated too, even though they'll generally encounter prostitutes, they'll still feel intimidated which is obscene to anyone who doesn't have these types of insecurities of course, but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

The Internet takes away the intimidation.

    That's what I think anyway.

  3. Thanks for the replies all.

I may be a bit negative, but from I have seen of the educational system here, from either a private or public school, I think it would be very hard for a child from the school system here to step from high school into a high powered college in America. To that end, I will be taking my half Thai daughter to America to attend at least two to four years of high school prior to entering and American college. I think this will help her tremendously for success in college. Also my personal feeling is that the SAT test is somewhat culturally biased towards America.

Not sure a foreign student who had never set foot in America would do very well on the test...

The little one is in a British school here anyway and is half British with near perfect English, with an American Grandfather and I think I'm leaning towards what you say about high school anyway, just to bed her in.

Nobody seen the conference type things they have in BKK with the US Uni's ?

  4. I don't know why you think it's fishy? She said she always say she loves me and I feel good with her.

For your sake I hope you're telling the truth but if I'm brutally honest, I think based on the average Thai female that would say what you just said she did to you, a foreigner, and the circumstances of your marriage that you set out, it sounds a tad fishy and you should have you eyes wide open and let your head rule your heart and your penis especially when money starts to get involved.

  5. Anyone have any experience with it ?

Last April I was in BKK and saw promo's for a convention regarding US Colleges but as a non US citizen myself, I'm unfamiliar with the process of how kids do actually get the chance to get to the US and attend colleges and Uni's there, the costing involved etc ?

Any help or pointers in the right direction would be much appreciated.

My little one is still a way off ( 7 ) but I wanted to work out the process for future reference as her " High school " here in Thailand isn't a million miles away and I wonder if the choice of that will affect the US College/Uni process even ?

  6. Look at the body language of the alleged murderer. He sits there like he owns the place. Here's someone who looks like he's getting away with it.

Probably in the final stages of "negotiation" of what it costs to get away with it. Seems like "life" means very little here, "face" is far more important.

And the sooner people understand and accept that, the safer people will be..

  7. If you are driving from the north (e.g. from Bangkok) coming to Cha-am, Santorini is indeed on your right and is indeed before Cha-am, after passing Santorini, the Swiss Sheep Farm is on your left and then after that you reach Cha-am.....

Yep, which means then that it doesn't depend on which way you're going, like I said initially in reply to Kristof..;)

Its only on the right and before Cha Am if you're driving from the north.

  8. I'm surprised that the people you witnessed being denied boarding didn't check when they booked, an expensive and disappointing oversight.

To be honest I personally can't remember transiting anywhere ( never been to Norway ) and clearing customs, not off the top of my head anyway.

Of course I'm a British passport holder and if I did need to I'd probably be alright anyway.

But this thread is just a " be careful " thread as the amount of people that didn't get on that flight because of it was simply far too many whatever the reasons were.

  9. Be careful people when booking for Thai Nationals.

This is a cheap flight that can be appealing to some but be aware that if you book it via Oslo > Gatwick you will need an Airport Transit visa for Oslo even if not travelling outside of the airport ( or a Schengen is obviously acceptable if you have that too ) as well as the obvious UK visa and they will deny you access to the flight if you haven't got it.

Don't think just because you're in transit you're ok as you're not.

Via Stockholm its ok but via Oslo you need an extra visa and I would advise against booking the flight because of the extra costings involved with this.

They denied access to maybe 15-20 people on the flight earlier in the week, all of which were Thai Nationals going on to the UK.

  10. Disgusted with the electric company. They also do not consider that maybe in some houses people might be on vital medical equipment. Recently I got cut off, never got a bill, was in the house my phone number on the meter. No questions asked no service. Immediately went to pay; it took them 5 hours to re connect. It would make life easier for them and the users if there was a warning service.

It's not the Electric company's fault.

Not that we need to point fingers at every tragic even but leaving a 9 and 13 year old child at home for any lengthly amount of time isn't going to win any parent of the year awards, work or not.

Obviously you don't know a lot about THAILAND, Many parents are forced to go out and leave children alone,

Actually I know a lot about Thailand unfortunately and i know probably more about parenting than to leave a 9 and 13 year old on their own for so long, so much.

To use the word " forced " is wrong for starters. Nobody is " forced " to leave children unattended for such a length of time.

Whatever excuse you are trying to make, like I said initially, if people are looking to point the finger and blame, the absent parent/parents is the I reaction to start with, whether you like it or not.

  11. The sad fact of the matter is that certain European embassies in Bangkok employ some truly repulsive Thai individuals to work in their visa sections who get a power kick out of trying to treat the spouses of EU nationals using their rights to apply for Schengen visas under the "freedom of movement" provisions as if they are common criminals and prostitutes. The expat embassy staff can't be bothered with these trivial details interrupting their cocktail party hangovers and leave the locally engaged staff to do whatever they feel like, unless some one complains forcibly. Anyway, since these embassies would prefer that everyone applied through the outsource agencies and pay them a fee, they want to make the "freedom of movement" applications as difficult and degrading as possible.

Put better than I ever could.

The UK embassy should be included in this.

  12. Wouldn't be surprised if you had the same officer as who i've just had some not so great dealings with for our application.

From what you're saying, you provided all you could.

I have no idea why it would have been refused so many times, unless she has previous maybe with UK Visa application ?

& don't jump on me for saying that, it's a question that is possible for everyone even if they don't like to admit it.
