  1. I just finished writing an extensive review and clicked something and it was gone. Oh well... The Verdict: I won't return

The new software saves your text, I think maybe if you had clicked back it would have still been there.

I did click back and it was gone... but not forgotten. The irony is that I was highlighting what I wrote for copy/paste purposes, (in case something unfortunate like this happened), before clicking 'post', but IT happened before 'copy' was selected...FML

  2. Well I don't frequent bars at night and the internet is just as evil as a "hobby" as TV so I'm left watching TV at home each night.

I think a group of us 'don't frequent the bars' types should hang out and make our own entertainment. I guess we're the one's who have a current average of 220-230 postsintheclub.gif

  3. I agree with you that the cable companies (in my case SoPhony) are <deleted>, but the example you mention is not the fault of cable. If the Universal channel sucks, it's the fault of the programmers of that channel, wherever their head office is in Asia.

Not true. Universal channel its self does not play repeats time after time. They are a legit TV station. It is the cable companies that are the ones (same as a disc jockey) that choses what to play. If they let UC run real time we would be seeing the real TV station of Universal.

DON'T get a satellite because the Universal Channel on satellite is exactly the same as the one broadcast by the cable company as that's where they get their feed from.

Maybe you can switch to Banglamung cable? They broadcast Granada TV channel.

I'm lucky that ITV/Granada are lax with protecting their copyright, get my thrice weekly Corrie fix from Youtube

  4. Chicken cashew nuts, sweet and sour pork, the full breakfast at 3am, the lemonade with crushed ice , banana fritters (not on menu)

if you want something cooking especially then buy it in foodland and they will cook it and serve for you

stir fried shrimps for instance, with a stir fry you can get yourself from the salad bar

all the foods from the shelves of foodland so its always fresh

its a great place, i have eaten there frequently over the last ten years or so

it should be noted that the owner of the foodland group eats there too when he is around

that ought to tell you something.............

My 3'rd visit now. I'm thinking that the naysayers are correct. I tried the chicken cashew (2x recommended), although tasting better than the version on offer at most Thai restaurants, the portion was miniscule for 100 baht, making it double the price compared to the normal Thai portions. I think I'll stick to the noodle dishes, but someday I'll try their breakfast.

Far fetched, only because if you see how they DJ their movie channels (falling alseep at the wheel and not inserting disc 2, etc) you'd know they're not talented enough to seemlessly cut N paste programs on the Universal channel.

  6. The place is Beijing style dumpling heaven. They also have Sechuan food. Their Beijing food is better (better executed, more authentic), at least I think so at this point and I do have knowledge about both. But that doesn't mean there is better Sechuan food in town. Huge varied menu. The best Chinese place in town now if you want authentic regional Chinese food but extremely rough around the edges service wise. Also, it's a dive as if I care, but you might. Don't bother dressing for dinner. Bring a translator (Mandarin I would assume). Tiny place. They are going to be blown away if crowds start showing up. Should be hilarious! These folks are not going to be learning English, ever! I am surprised to hear the lady even speaks any Thai. Why buy a ticket to Beijing? You can experience Chinese culture shock here in Jomtien.

BTW, there are quite a few dishes on the menu which are indeed Sechuan dishes that are not labeled that way. You would have to know something about the food to realize that. I haven't given up hope that there are some Sechuan gems on the menu but I do think the Beijing stuff, like the steamed dumplings (many varieties) will be more predictably/consistently good and pleasing.

Thanks OP for the stellar find. I would have never known about the place myself given its location. You may have created a monster!

Also note the crowd that thinks China Garden UK style Chinese food is the shit, likely won't like this place.

It's really cool that Jomtien is becoming a destination for local foodies offering stuff not found anywhere else in the area.

So did you eat something or just look at the menu?

    ROFL

You'd have thought he'd try the food at this place, but no indication from the review. Anyways, he did the same on the (almost) famous Sunrise Tacos thread, praising it's virtues for weeks before sitting down for a meal.

  7. I went to the UK in June/July with my wife for a family funeral, whilst there we did some sightseeing, and also sent some postcards back to Thailand, one for her mum and one back to our house. Her Mums arrived quite swiftly, however ours which was sent in July came around December, with a big fat sticker on it saying the postage was not enough, I thought first class would cover it.

Also not Thailand related but my brother in Scotland sent my mother a card in Somerset, put a first class stamp on it, my mum had to pay a fine of 1GBP and the correct postage to receive it.

I guess that the UK mentality is that a single 1st class Great Britain stamp is good enough for the rest of the world, but I guess it doesn't carry much weight anymore, being an empire of 1violin.gif

  8. Went there tonight ,

Very good fried Chinese style salapow sold in front for 20 baht each.

Food ordered was OK , guess I should have ordered the stewed turtle for 600 baht sad.png

Communication is an issue as English is not spoked and the one lady cook has very basic Thai.

There is a English menu and it is pretty extensive.

Am i the only one who doesn't know what a salapow is?

  9. I got my car booted for parking on second road in front of Tuk Com last week. I was on the right side of the street on the right day but I didn't see the dirty yellow line when someone pulled out and I pulled in. Apparently this is a taxi standing spot. 400 THB later and about an hour waiting and the boot was removed and off I went. I won't be driving to Tuk Com anymore as this was the second time I have been ticketed there. The first was definitely my fault and I'm not complaining about either incident but there's just nowhere to park down there.

Tukom has a free multi level parking garage with free shuttle to the store for those that don't want to walk the 500 meters.

not at the 2'nd road locationdrunk.gif

I honestly didn't realize there was a tukom on 2nd road. Would you mind telling me where on 2nd road it is as I'd like to check it out.

    Thanks.

There is no location on 2'nd road... that's the joke. Perhaps the OP had inadvertantly swallowed some of the fine Pattaya municipal water the night prior to posting.

  11. Oh come on, now, you don't need me to confirm this great find. I haven't been yet but I BELIEVE.

I hope they have decent fried Calamari... Thailand is lucky to have such wealth of fresh caught squid, and what do they do with it.... hang it out to dry!hit-the-fan.gif

  12. I'm on the case! cowboy.gif I am surprised to hear about goat on the menu though. Yes, I know the Chinese eat everything but first time I've heard of a Chinese goat dish. I've also never seen goat on ANY menu in Thailand. I like goat when cooked properly but it is a VERY strong meat that you can often taste the next day. Are you sure it was really goat or maybe a translation issue, like maybe it was mutton?

I'm not fully clear on where Soi Welcome is. I have found most of the restaurants around that general location to be dreary tourist traps. So is it at Soi 14 or is it at the same soi as the Welcome Beach Hotel?

Goat and mutton is often eaten in Western China due to the Muslim influence. Many Chinese muslim estuarants have popped up in cities populated by migrant workers. In fact I have seen the odd goat tethered outside restuarants in Southern China waiting to be ordered and dispatched accordingly.

Surprised to hear of it in Jomtien - perhaps JT can up date us if he tries the food.

My mouth is starting to water. I don't think my tastebuds can wait for JT much longer

  13. Currently my spouse's Thai passport is 'lost' in the 3'rd world postal disaster, disguised as a courier, commonly known as EMS by Thai Post. We've had to cancel our visit to Europe. Never send anything important with Thai Post!

  14. Fair enough. The beef dish sounds a bit like a black bean stir fry. One of my favs too.

Nope, there are black bean or garlic/black pepper variations, but the flavoring in this dish is only fish/soy sauce.

    Well then i stand erected.

They have fried noodles with fish &black bean sauce @ 81 baht (yes I took their paper menu home with me for signthaivisa.gif posting purposes)
