  1. With the recent data breach at Shopee where customers with linked bank accounts had those accounts vacuumed out by hackers, I am VERY leery of anything related to Shopee. I do not use their site any longer for purchases. I feel that linking my bank account to them is just asking for trouble. Maybe I can have them write me a refund check and be done with it.

  2. I was contacted by Shopee informing me that I had refunds from previous cancelled purchases that they wanted to deposit to my bank account. I asked them the amounts of the refunds and they were correct. The want me to fill out a form on GoogleDocs (red flag #1) to add my bank account. Basically they want me to photocopy my bank book info page, add some additional handwritten information, sign it, and upload to GoogleDocs. I don't know whether to trust this or not. Has anyone else been through this? I don't want to get scammed. Below is the email that was sent to me:

  3. I'll be returning to Thailand on July 12. My crystal ball told me to wait to apply for ThaiPass since laws here change at a moment's notice...and it was right.

I am not vaccinated. Will I be required to show a negative Covid test result upon my return? There seems to be some conflicting news out there.

Bangkok post says I don't necessarily need one:

Thai PBS world tells a different story:
"Non-Thais arriving in Thailand will no longer be required to apply for the “Thailand Pass” before their departure, nor will they be required to have insurance coverage of US$10,000 from July 1, according to the Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) today (Friday).

They will, however, need to show their vaccination or a COVID-19 test certificate upon arrival and will have to complete a health declaration form, to prevent the spread of communicable diseases such as yellow fever."

    Who is correct?

  4. Minimizing the time & effort of getting an extension is my ultimate goal. It's a two-hour round trip to immigration + time at the bank + shopping / eating time (and my wife can make this last H O U R S). A retirement extension will allow me to do this in one whack without needing to return 30 days later on the exact day specified (which prohibits me from travelling abroad or essentially doing anything else that day). I do agree that a marriage / child care extension basis may carry more weight but if push comes to shove I could always change back. Thanks to everyone who commented...I'll get this done tomorrow.

  5. Originally I had a non-resident type O marriage visa (I was under 50 so I didn't get a retirement visa). I had received extensions based on marriage for a few years then changed the basis of extension to 'taking care of child' because I let my bank balance slip below the 400k baht line a few years ago. This is OK, but there is too much BS involved (pictures, maps, daughter has to go to immigration, have to report back in 30 days to actually receive the extension, etc.) Can I switch to an extension based on retirement for less hassle? I am now over 50 and have had more than 800k baht in a Thai bank for well over 6 months. Thank you!

Yeah, but the poster says "I brought a used mountain bike into Thailand about 4 years ago". Why would you put yourself through it? I know, I know: you want to ride your bike. I suppose it's possible that this bike that was used four years ago is nevertheless worth a fortune. My perfectly functional Trek aluminium mountain bike, however, with Shimano components is worth the square root of **** all. You could hardly give it away. To the states and back with (probably) a pretty shagged bike, for three weeks? Why?

Here's why: To the states with a meticulously maintained Ibis Mojo SL-R carbon bike. Sold it for $1500. Returned with a barely used Ibis Mojo 3 with carbon everything that retailed for about $7500 last year. Assembled it last night, rode it this morning. Funnest bike I've ever been on. Now...if you can even ORDER that same bike at any shop in Thailand I'd be amazed and the price would be stunning to say the least.

  7. My Non-O marriage visa expires on December 2. I obtained a re-entry permit, left Thailand on September 2 then returned on September 23. My passport stamp indicates that I am admitted until December 2 but I thought that I needed to report within 30 days of re-entering Thailand (which would be October 23). When do I need to report to Immigration?

Also, I heard long ago that the Non-O marriage visa can be extended for another year automatically after re-entering Thailand if you re-enter before the Non-O visa expires. Is this true or will I need to go through the pain of obtaining all of the documentation I needed to apply for the marriage visa?

    Thanks in advance!

  8. I have a multiple-entry (3 entry) visa that was issued in the USA. My first 60 days will expire soon. I plan on doing a visa run to Cambodia.

    Questions:

    1. Will I need any documentation (passport photos, etc.) to obtain a visa to get into Cambodia?

    2. Do I need to stay in Cambodia for any amount of time or can I get stamped and come right back to Thailand?

History: Earlier this year, I was in Thailand on a 'visa on arrival' and flew to Cambodia to get another 30 days. I then went back to the USA and obtained a multiple-entry visa (and a really nice wedding ring). :)

Thanks in advance for the information!!!

  10. Hello!

A little background: I have visited Thailand 6 times in the past 3 years. My fiance had lived with me here in the USA under a K-1 visa. The brutality of winter here and she missing her family forced her to move back to Thailand last March. I have visited Thailand twice since then.

I have decided to move to Thailand within the year to be married to her. She already has a house and her own trucking company. Financially we are good. I plan to continue working under contract for a company in the US and travelling occasionally to the USA.

Which visa route do I need to take? I do not have any bank accounts there yet but apparently I need to open one to begin the non-immigrant 'O' visa process. Should I travel there, get a vis-exempt entry, THEN apply for a non-immigrant 'O' visa?

Thank you for any assistance you could provide.
