  1. Dear all,

Sorry if my post is in the incorrect forum.

But i really want to know what i can do to help clean up. Is there a volunteer group to join? Will authorities let us join? Can we get to the island?

So many questions, but i can't seem to get the correct answers. I have heard somewhere that a westerner must have a work permit to help with anything, even volunteer work. Is this correct? I do have a work permit, and my wife and i were keen to get a group of friends together to travel there this weekend to do our bit.

Is it pointless in trying to help?

    Thank you for any replies

  3. I enjoy it,when my wife slaps me in the head, for being silly/sarcastic/a jerk. Why? Maybe it's because she did it the 1st time we met, and whilst shocked, i was told it was Thai style. It's continued many years on, and after seeing Thai acting, i now just accept it.

If it was a western woman, it would probably be a right hook!

  4. Had the same problem with my neighbours recently. They were strict catholics ( nothing wrong with that) and nice people i may add. But their extra loud gospel music so early in the morning, (5am) and late at night (11pm), eventually got to me.

We have a very loud entertainment system, but we respect all our neighbours and keep the volume to a reasonable level.

So my wife and i politely asked them on more than 3 occasions, to lower the volume as it was disturbing our sleep. We were not rude in our approach, and feeling good about the way things went.

Seemingly, the problem was solved. But after a bit of downtime, it started again. I had enough.

Time to get serious. Some Rage Against the Machine seemed to do the trick.....plus a bit of extra loud loving with the wife, i think was the sealer. They moved out within the month!!

  5. Come one, come all.

This coming Saturday 30th June, the Thailand Tigers Aussie Rules Football Club will host the Laos Elephants in the Pattaya Cup. Game kicks off at 1:30pm at the Thai Polo Club in Pattaya.

So if you are free, get down and support the Tigers in what should be a great contest! There will be beers, food and a great afternoons action of Aussie Rules Footy.

  6. Interesting subject.

Has it ever been covered on Thaivisa before? I know that there have been 3529 threads looking for the cheapest way to get from Bangkok to Pattaya, but I don't think we've ever seen the subject covered from this perspective before.

Why? Because im relatively new to BKK and Pattaya. Sorry if i interrupted you bendix. Hopefully tomorrow is a much better day for you. Maybe get out of bed on the other side perhaps?
  7. Thankyou to all who replied. Definately a big help. Sorry if this question had been asked before, but it will be my 1st time in Pattaya. I can get a lift from BKK to Pattaya, but coming back was the problem. And to those who for some reason gave negative advice..........WHY?

Anyway, thanks again, hopefully i make it back to BKK alive :) And not just from the trip home iv'e heard.....

  8. So some passengers are concerned about waiting for 2-3 trains to pass before they can get in? Get over it! Why are you in such a hurry? Late for work? Well leave 5 mins earlier from home.

The trains are very frequent, can't understand the problem. And as westerners, majority are slightly larger, so just muscle your way in. Or would you rather spend and extra 1hr in BKK traffic? (then they would complain about Bkk drivers). Can't please some people hey?

Melbourne is supposedly the no.1 city to live? Try catching a train peak hr there. Can't even get their ticketing system right, and they charge you a fortune to ride piss smelling and graffited trains! Not to mention the violence of some passengers, and the rough moron conducters!

I love the BTS, cheap, clean and plenty of eye candy.

  9. The Thailand Tigers Senior AFL Club is always welcoming new members and players of the great game of Aussie Rules.

The club was founded way back in 1996 when a couple of expat-Aussies just wanted a kick of the footy. Though the size of the club has now grown to about --- members of which 25 regularly play, the main ambition of the club is still to have a lot of fun having a kick of the footy. Anybody interested in running around with a bunch of mates on a Saturday afternoon would be most welcome; no matter the age, experience or nationality.

For the socially minded the club has regular functions including Friday Night Football drinks at Tenderloins in Sukhumvit 33. For the fitness enthusiasts there is training at NIST school every Tuesday night at 6.30 and regular domestic matches on Saturday afternoons.

The club also competes in several International games every year. There is the popular Anzac Day match at Kanchanaburi each year as well as the Pattaya Cup which will be held this year on the 30th of June against Laos.

The Asian Championships will be held in Bangkok again this year on the 11th of August and this year 12 teams from across Asia will compete for the title.

If you would like to find out more details then email the Thailand Tigers on [email protected] or visit them on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/?ref=tn_tnmn#!/groups/thailandtigers/.

  10. I need to place an advertisement for a general facilitator, for a local sporting team in Bangkok.

Could someone please point me in the right direction as to where to place this ad on THAI VISA?

Would appreciate any help, as i am not a frequent user of this site.

    Thankyou in advance

  11. I got caught out side Hua Hin Police station last month, a quick 200 Baht which I allways keep in my left pocket was a sufficient amount for me not to go inside and check my levels which would have been over after 3 beers and 2 red wines at a Italian restaurant. I love a little friendly corruption.

    Cheers

so, its ok if you have some type of accident, that would involve an innocent person being harmed or killed, just because you wanted to have a good time and a drink, then believe you pay the cops to let you off? so if a drunk driver killed a family member or friend of yours, you would be ok with that? or you must just be a lonely person if you think this way?

  12. It continually amazes me that people complain about living in Thailand. First of all..... why are you here? and second..........why don't you leave?

"No one else can ever make your choices for you. Your choices are yours alone. They are as much a part of you as every breath you will take, every moment of your life."

  13. Being my 1st Christmas in Bangkok, i was wondering if there were any Santas available to have my daughters photo taken with?

For the past 4 years, i have been in Australia for Christmas, and it's a regular thing in the family to have the childrens photo taken at the local shopping centre, with the man in red. I would like to continue this trend, and my daughter especially asks to see the big fella.

So does anyone know of somewhere this could be done? Siam, MBK ? I live in the burbs, so any advanced information would be greatly appreciated.

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all :)

  14. I was waiting for the negative responses to my story  everyone is entitled to their opinion. Im not a regular poster, but regular reader. Just thought a bit of positive news wouldn't go astray now and then.

Even if it was a so-called PR stunt, well good on the owners for doing so, it sure did work. They will be getting my $ in the future, and if that helps them, then that is great.

I am a business owner here, and i am all for customer service. Whether it be honesty, a smile, or going that extra mile to make your customers happy, is what it's all about. 9 times out of 10, they come back, and iv'e made some wonderful friends this way, and kept my business going strong in the mean time. word of mouth is a very powerful tool also!!!

Thanks to everyone for the replies, good to hear some other positive stories also,

    Good day :D

  15. Maybe to some this is only a small thing, but i want to share my story to make some realise that the falang will not be taken advantage of everytime in LOS.

Yesterday i went to my local store, where im not such a regular, but a familiar face, and i was given 30thb back to me, with both the shop owners hands wrapped around mine to hand it back, and a smile to add. When i questioned this, the shop owner (in broken english) explained that the last time i was in, that her friend who was minding the shop for a short time, overcharged me on the products i bought. Obviously her friend was unsure about the total price in the first place (as was i, but wasnt too concerned) , and she has passed this on to the owner.

Even though to me it is a small amount,I thought that this was a fantastic display of honesty, and it made sure that i will be a regular customer from now on. I thought that sharing my experience may go to show that the falang doesnt always get ripped off. Anybody else have a same experience with some great Thai people, rather than all the haters out there who think the falang is always being ripped off?

  16. Imagine the out cry and response if these young thugs picked on the wrong one and they ended up in intensive care.

There have always been two standards for Thai and Ferang and some things will never change, and as long as pockets get lined they never will.

Firstly, lets hope for a speedy recovery for the gent who has been a victim to this violence.

Secondly, I dont quite understand the 2 standards people speak of. I was attacked by a thai taxi driver in BKK after a minor vehicle accident (his fault mind you), so i defended myself and my daughter who was in the car at the time, and the police were more than helpful towards me. after some questioning, and witnessess statements, i was believed to be in the right to defend myself.no fine either. Even my extended Thai family agreed that i should at all costs defend myself if im in the right. May i remind others that Thailand is not the only place where thugs will rob or beat you. I do not condone violence, but i will forever defend myself and my family at any cost.

  17. I live in the west, and our area was severly flooded. I'm 6,2 and it was chest height in my soi. Luckily we escaped unscathed with a lot of supplies to keep us going for a while. Our neighbour stayed behind and had been reporting everyday. Things seem to be improving slowly. But 1 particular incident has upset all of us, Thais included. Not only are boat operators charging 300thb for a 100m trip, they are finding glass bottles, smashing them and putting the broken glass in the water. Therefore, people who refuse to pay them a fee, simply coz they can't afford it, walk in the water to get home, some of them barefeet. In turn, they are cutting their feet, which forces them to use the boats. Unbelievable act. Desperates acts, during desperate times!
