In Buengkan we need to get a letter from the Land Transportation Office to the Immigration Office, in order to get a Certificate of Residence from Immigration. That is for getting a DL or register car or motorbike. It might be different from province to province, who knows.

Gents,
Can any of you recommend a good tailor in Nong Khai ?
I'm going for a nice suit to a reasonable price.
Alternatively it could be in Udon Thani.
Thank you for recommendations

I agree with post #21, it is a nice trip. I would add one town though:
I would recommend the Chiang Khan to Nakon Phanom river route. Can be done by bus at a leisurely pace. Stops to make would be;
Loei
Chiang Khan
Sangkhom (buoys guest house)
Sri Chiang Mai
Nong Khai (mut mee guest house)
Pak Khat (Kongkhamkoon Hotel, located on Mekong river brink)
Bueng Kan (visit wat phu tok)
Nakhon Phanom (visit wat taat phanom)

It is a nice trip along the river. I would recommend to stay in Pak Khat (approx. 80 km east of Nong Khai). It is a nice town not many tourists, nice atmosphere, market, thai restaurants, old temple southeast of the main road etc. There is a nice hotel just on the river banks, good rooms with riverview. The hotel is called KhongKhamKoon. A room is 500-900 Baht.Phone 0897128598.
Just outside Nong Khai (10-15 km. east) there is an interesting sculpture park see link: http://www.oldworldwandering.com/2012/03/25/nong-khais-exceptional-sculpture-park/
If you would like further info, just ask
Enjoy the trip

I have been in Pak Khat (90 km. east of Nong Khai) during the Naga fireball event. It is a small town with 6-10.000 people. It is a nice and easygoing party/gathering of the local people. I enjoyed it. There is a square down at Mekong, and a hotel next to the square where you can watch the fireballs and attend the party. I didn't see any fireballs that night, but the next day I saw a red light like a New Year rocket over Mekong, but one of the locals told me it was a fireball :-) Who knows ??

Two months ago it was a bus every hour from 7:30- 11:30 AM from NP to NK.
The trip is 6-7 hours.
I had to change bus in NK in order to get to UT

Hi Ben,
Did you find any nice spots on your trip along the river ?
I would appreciate to get some inspiration for nice places to go in that part of Thailand.

I would recommend the small town Pak Khat 90 km. east of Nong Khai. If you come from NK go left all the way down to the river.
There is a nice hotel where some of the rooms give you a full view of Mekong from the balcony. The restaurant has river view as well. Hotel Kongkhomkoon, e-mail: [email protected], phone 0897128598.
If you go further east from Pak Khat, a few kilometers before Bueng Kan there is a interesting temple right on the river bank with nice views to the river.
Enjoy the trip
