  1. No you weren't fined.

You were extorted by Thai government officials, or Thai extortioners most likely acting with official protection.

TIT... However, when it's all boiled down (unless the other members of the party did indeed take the share of the goodies that they had brought over the border) you did, in fact, albeit in a round about manner, smuggle the stuff in, didn't you? Perhaps you forgot to give your conspirators a bit of kanom for their assistance and say 'Thank You'... wai.gif

  2. Hmm, kind of, but it's a whole new set of questions. Please don't close me...i beg you :-)

It seems that you have completely ignored the no-nonsense, straight to the point, good advice you have been given already - both in this forum and via private message - and the risks you are exposed to right now if you are genuinely what you say you are. The fact that the 'future hubby' wants you to put 1 million baht into his 'little' cafe says it all. But now you say he (or someone close to him) is trying to get you to purchase an established company and pay you 'a wage' equal to that a Thai would be paid. If that is true (and with all of your contradictions I'm begining to suspect a troll exercise here) you had better (as already advised) drop your marriage plans and get the hell out of Thailand. You and your naivety are walking into a disaster zone, and if you are unable to see that by now then you are evidently getting closer to finding out the hard way. You won't enjoy that trip.

  3. Is it against the law to eat dog meat or to take them across a border into another country for whatever reason?

Hardly against the law because it is a favourite food of many Thais - particularly the North Easterners - and is sold openly in markets nationwide. The reason they have been 'rescued' is no doubt because they will look a whole lot better on Thai plates (umm bamboo sticks) than they would look on Cambodian BBQs. The RESCUE can not possibly be a result of Thai 'compassion', or their indisputable love' for dogs, can it? Just have to stroll down any soi to see the condition that most dogs in Thailand are left to survive in. One consolation though of this 'Rescue' is that at least there is no risk of them being returned to their previous homes to prowl and make a perpetual mess and nuisence of themselves. Enjoy the festicities dog lovers..

  4. I am no expert ,but I suspect that you cannot just close a company which has assets (or liabilities).

You will need to dispose of the asset.

My thoughts are that the company could sell the land to a Thai National -who gets the house for free(worst case) or you sell the company(with land and house) for market price.

If you go for option 1 then you can close the company when the asset is disposed of.

I understand that closing a company is more expensive than creating a company.

I can confirm that closing a registered company in Thailand is a nightmare, particularly where assets are involved and the (mandatory) Thai shareholder compliment are not happy to cooperate. The far better solution (if they are) is to sell the company (or at least your shareholding in it (for which you will need the other directors' written authority, both to accept the sale and the purchase, after a special meeting of the board has sanctioned the move. All that will be involved then is a transfer of shares and the company's assets are of no consequence.

  5. Thanks RSD, I figured it was something like that. I was just hoping there was some help to be found. I drove 1500 miles in Thailand last December in a rental car. It was like Mad Max. smile.png I drove like a madman when I was a teenager here in the states so I was sort of enjoying the wide ride for a while. Not look forward to getting into a car anytime soon again in Thailand.

Another statistic that all foreigners planning to visit, or already resident in, Thailand MUST be aware of is that this past year (a pretty standard one annually in fact) more than 26,000 people were killed in the road accidents nationwide. The number of injured is at least 10 times that. Riding a motorcycle in any developed part of the country is paramount to attempting suicide.. However, for those who are bent on finding out if there really is a 'Hereafter', or - for the fundamentalist warriors - an endless procession of young virgins awaiting them in paradise as reward for services rendered, it would probably be a pretty good 'Fast Track' option though... My advise - for what it's worth coming from a Thai national - is: Forget the bike and forget the 'roadside assistance'.. That of course is available, and you don't even need to join a club, but the 'bike owner' and any passenger onboard will in all likelihood end up being the ones who needs to be repaired, minus, of course, their wallets, bike and in many a case 'life itself'.

  6. Not unheard of, but seems very old fashion. With stress on very.

It's certainly 'Old' fashioned.. It started when the first foreigner landed in Thailand, and is still the average Thai parents' favourite card game.... It's called 'Suck Their Blood Till They Die'.. My parents tried a similar hands outstretched palms up strategy when I first introduced my now husband of 30 years, but I stomped on them immediately and demanded they stay right out of our relationship. They did and we lived happily ever after. I suggest this fellow gets his girl friend to do the same. If she won't then she is a card player herself and he would be wise to dump her and look elsewhere.. After all it's not that there is a shortage of hopefuls, is it?

  7. Hello everyone.

This is a warning to be careful when you get response to classified advertisements.

I placed an advert in the ThaiVisa Classifieds for a bulk lot of Original Miniature Asian Art Paintings and received a response from someone calling himself 'Paul Acquah' from Ghana, who said he wanted to purchase them all... I replied and asked his delivery address so I could tell him the freight charges... He provided this website URL: www.sohoos.com/me/acquahpaul.... I took a look and smelt a Rat (a Nigerian Rat). The front page has a photo that looked very much like someone I had seen before. Further google photo search revealed that it was a very well know Philsopher named 'Kwame Anthony Appiah'.. I then checked the 'team members' the Scammer has listed at the bottom of his front page and found at least a dozen very well know and successful business people, all with facebook accounts.. I went to facebook and found that the scammer was one of the very few contacts listed there (not normal and evidently all him anyhow). During this time I kept communicating with 'Acquah' and he kept asking me for my bank account number so he could send me lots of money. Google Earth told me the delivery address didn't exist... I asked him to give me his bank details to verify his identity but he made all kinds of excuses... In the end I sent him this following mail:

    ***

    Hello again,

Well, a little more investigation has revealed that you are exactly what I believed you to be from the beginning; Just another Stinking Nigerian Scam Artist... (Not from Ghana at all). We have a lot of your brothers arriving here from time to time and most of them end up in prison (where they belong)... Would you like to pop over for a visit too?.... Your website is a total sham and several of the people you have listed there as TEAM members have revealed to me that they have nothing to do with you. The Thai branch of Interpol has now been provided all of your correspondence and will no doubt be in touch, or at the least have you on their black list for future attention.

    Lots of love

    Thank you, Acquah Paul ****************************

Maybe if 1,000 people sent 10 'long' messages each (containing anything at all, but with different subject lines) to all of his online contact addresses, including his website form and ("team Members'") facebook accounts - that he has obviously set up himself - (10,000 to each per day or week) he will become so deluged that he would be at least temporarily stopped. He'd certainly need to shut down his website and facebook accounts and start again... That could be accompanied by complaints to the ISP he is using and the Interpol Police Internet fraud division... I have no idea how these crooks can make use of other peoples' bank account numbers but evidently they can somehow, so be very careful who you give that to.
