  1. There was one old passport with some old visas or something in it, to which the newer passport referred - and both were stolen.
She got a new passport maybe one year ago, but had trouble collecting the money, and I think there was a huge amount of shyness involved to approach immigration/airport/whatever.

So yes, the police reports were vital. I just wonder what they do if someone has a blank passport, 20k but no police reports or anything

And sure, it was one of her big issues - actually not an unresponsible person, but she just slipped into this shitty situation. Glad that is solved now, if she reenters then on proper visas

    Thanks :-)

  2. As there is a lack of reports what actually happened at the airports in the current mess, here is a report of suvarnabhumi today

What happened before, a good friend of mine (phillipino girl) had her two old passports stolen, with which she made usually visa runs. That happened two years ago.
Since then, she was illegal in Thailand, without visa or passport - but she did go to police and report the theft, and so had the police report

To help her, we tried to gather information, get a new passport and what to do - obviously, before the 20th of March.
She go a plane ticket to the phillipines, collected the 20.000 Baht overstay fee and we went to the airport.
Strangely, Phillipine Airlines didn't even ask for a passport with an entrance stamp, a friend was denied flight before for that reason, so maybe they just don't care anymore.

After going through the passport control and some rather long talk with the immigration there (supposedly they very efficient, but friendly) a problem that came up was the missing entry stamp -
and the police report mentioned only the prior theft of one passport, not of two.

The immigration said it is possible to get the report done immediately at either the suvarnabhumi police, or the tourist police.
We went to the tourist police, but that started to be a big issue. A long time arguing, them ordering us to some police downtown etc. despite seeing the check in tickets was just resolved by some
superior officer that ordered them to just write it.

After that the case went on normal, through security, and immigration, paying the fee.
I hope the slightly more detailed description helps anyone who worries about their visa :-)

So, long story short - overstay is still possible, even with a blank passport BUT have your papers together. It would have been a big issue if she would not have been bright enough to have copies of anything in her passports before and made at least a police report for one of the stolen passports. They clearly want to track exactly from when until when you have been where.

For anyone that had a recent overstay - with my poor Thai, I see now only four stamps in her passport.
One for the transfer of the entrance stamp from an old passport, one as entrance stamp / visa on arrival, one as departure stamp and one that she overstayed and paid 20.000 Baht
As they made her sign the "5 year ban" etc. thing but did not say anything about it, she actually can reenter or not?
Would a ban from the kingdom not be stamped in red?

    Thanks in advance

  3. Well, yes - the problem is actually that as far as the philpippino community goes, they dont even seem to know the proper behavior about visas.
However, the question is not about her person or her doings in Thailand - she certainly messed things up.
My plan would be so far to get the new passport, the police report, papers from the embassy, and going to the airport to fly to KL or so. I feel like it might be a good idea to get out of the normal visa run countries.
As long as the new rule is not enforced and the officers at the airport are reasonable, I hope that should be fine.
Important is any experiences with that. Most information here is obviously about westerners, and we know that they usually have different dealings with SE asians

  4. Hello,

I am asking on behalf of a good friend, a girl from the Philippines, I hope someone can clarify some things
She lost her passport a bit more than a year ago, and stayed in Thailand with Visa runs.
So now, she is essentially overstaying since about a year. We talked with the Philippines embassy, and she can get a new passport -

but when going to the immigration to pay the fine, would she be blacklisted, or have to leave Thailand?
All seems to be a bit unclear in moment, considering the new rules - and also because she is not farang.
If someone could point out a good lawyer that might help to deal with the immigration it would also be very helpful

    Thanks!

  5. I had a bit the same issue - I am here since five years, never reported anything for four years.
Then on a trip home the laundry ate my passport, I had to made everything new and had for the first time this year a notification notice in my passport. Well, I left Thailand before the due date, they left it in my passport, I asked the embassy in Germany which said very clearly it is supposed to be 90 days from your last entry, no matter what is written on the notification.

Somehow I "forgot" the notification again, but no problem at the last extension. It seems to me that it is a complete separate system, so as long as I dont go to the notification people, I am just out.
In the end I will just keep not reporting until they might fine me.
I would not worry if it seems like someone is out of the notification thingie (thats actually also what the immigration officer at the airport told me when I entered with the old, over-due, notification slip)

  6. Just yesterday I crawled thorugh Bangkok and bought a bunch of decks - couldnt resist, although I rarely know any players here.

But the place I found is great, it is the Metro Mall and MRT Chatuchak - three or four stores with a great selection of single cards, tournaments etc.

If anyone is up for playing some rounds, please pm me, I would love to get back into that game

  7. Does anybody know where to get them in BKK?

I loved these things in army times, but sadly now mine are in Germany.

They are incredible comfortable after walking in them for some time yet you can walk literally straight through a jungle without caring where you step... Great boots

  8. I dont have any current receipt - I lost my passport in december, got a new one, returned to Thailand, made a visa (3 months) and then got the notification paper when I made the next extension for 6 months.
However, obviously I have the arrival/departure stamps in my passport (which when I got it right was also double checked by the immigration officer when entering after I asked him about the notification paper)
Will that be enough? Its a rather new visa with all stamps as proof that I have not been in Thailand

  9. Hi,

I have a question about the 90-day notification of which I am sure it already happened to other people.
I have a ED Visa with a multiple re-entry valid until october, so my visa is no problem.
However, I left Thailand on the 5th of may and came back yesterday, the the 6th of july.
Usually, when leaving Thailand, the small white paper for the 90 day notification should be taken out of the passport, or not?

It states I have to come there on the 20th of june for the report, which obviously has passed.
I asked before the thai consulary in Germany, who said that I should just ask here - the immigration officer just smiled and waved with his hand when he saw the paper

in my passport, but put it back in, the information people at the airport were not any more helpful.
While I have a valid visa I dont worry about that, but do I need to care about the white paper or not?
I dont want to pay 5000 baht and probably get some stamp concerning that in my passport just because some immigration guy forgot to take that out

    Thanks in advance

  10. Actually I saw this event in person and can confirm that there surely was no threatening or something by this guy - in fact noone noticed anything happening and then he got hit. It surely was not his fault.

I guess the big problem is just that, like it always happens everywhere with guys like that, the security guy is an asshol_e.

It was just really sad that all of this happened in front of the children - seriously, who starts a fight in front of children?

  11. As titled, I need a place where I could get small change of Euros - meaning best some 1- and 2 Euro coins.

The background is that I will go to North Korea soon and need foreign money there - and as the exchange

rate seems quite a lot better (and I dont like chinese money, its always kind of old and stinking) I would

    like to use Euros.

However, it seems like change is rare in Kim Jongs wonderland, so small denominations and coins seems

    best.

Any advice where I might get that in Bangkok?

  12. Same here. I live Khlong Toey and the DSL line is down.

After checking all the technical things I managed to call true and at least get a recorded message that they have technical problems with their broadband, saying that they are sorry for inconvenience.

However, no word on when it will be fixed etc :-(

  13. Hey there,

I am having a problem with my phone (Samsung Galaxy S 2) and my AIS 12call sim card, which keeps switching into roaming mode and so loses all data connection.

I am running a custom firmware, but also tried changing the modems, which doesnt change anything... I did have the

same problem with my older phones, but I think not that much.

Is there any known fix for that? I already changed my sim card (made a new one, not new number) ~6 months ago, with no effect.

Do I need a new phone number then? Or can anybody tell me your modem version if you have a fine working Galaxy S 2 in Thailand?

    Thanks in advance

  14. So, I checked now forth and back -

what they want to tell me is that any product that has the label "Made in Thailand" on/in it must be produced by factories

that are certified for export, thus being in another tax category than one that produces solely for the domestic market.

If these products would be exported, the customs would check back to the factory and eventually that would cause

    heavy fines, closure etc.

    Can anybody confirm this?

  15. I guess I formulated that wrong - what I want to know if my manufacturer is just confused, or if it is true that he has to pay more taxes when his products are being exported.

As I buy them and export them, paying the taxes and so on there should not be a problem for him, right?

It seems like someone told him that his products are "Made in Thailand" and so he can only produce for export when he pays higher taxes
