Interesting... I don't think it was about the nuts but moreso about the fact that staff aren't doing what they should be doing from a management point of view. Not necessarily the way I'd go about it but it set an example I guess. We just flew back on a different airline where the purser of the flight was a grumpy old bat whose first reaction to everything was 'no' (in business class) while the rest of the staff were actually quite good.

  2. Interesting question. I'd hate for them to have salary deducted, sometimes it's not their fault and kudos to those that actually work to make their money. I've not asked for the coupon before and they're generally really polite or they call to apologize if it's running a little late. The cynical side of me just hopes that they are not pocketing vouchers for themselves or their friends to get freebies in return.

  3. it's a pity people don't think before they even put their deposits down before buying a car they can't afford... for those that got their cars, some can't afford to get them serviced...

having said that, I too agree that the cancellations are a good thing from a drivers point of view, how many more small cars have you seen out there being driven like they're motorbikes weaving in and out and going any random direction they feel like.

  4. I get more and more confused reading this... so her boyfriend killed a different woman? thinking it was her? ... if they're in a happy relationship, has be been getting crap from the family for the last year for killing his GF? so now he can say 'see i didn't kill her' or at least 'i didn't kill Nigora'.... and what's become of him if he was jailed or something for killing her and she shows up a year later? great girlfriend by the way to wait a year if he is (sorry i missed the original story when all this first happened).... either way.. *scratches head* facepalm.gif

You're not the brightest star in the galaxy, are you. facepalm.gif

Post #32 explains it in quite easy-to-read terms.

no need to be rude, i actually missed #32 and scrolled too quickly... yes it does explain it quite well thank you

  5. 'Miss Nigora Muminova showed Tourist Police a scan of a news item in a Thai Newspaper which related to the murder of a woman by her Uzbekistan boyfriend, Mr. Sobiyon Sobirov aged 23, in Bangkok, whereby he killed her and then placed her in a suitcase which was thrown into a river on 16th August.'

  6. A child born overseas to an Australian national and registered with the Australian embassy is automatically an Australian citizen, he should have stayed cool, taken the daughter on a holiday to Grandma in oz and stayed there, chances would have been slightly better and the payoff, more affordable......anyway..coffee1.gif

As he did not have sole custody awarded by a Thai court, requires Thai mothers written permission for the child to depart Thailand

That is incorrect, I brought by 11 month old son back to Australia (December 2012) to live when I split up with my wife. All I had was his passport and birth certificate (we had already contacted the Australian and Thai embassies and they both said that I didn't require anything other than his passport) and we left Thailand and entered Australia with no problems. As long as there are no court restrictions children can leave Thailand freely with their father or a relative.

i'm guessing that's where the difference is... you already had the passport... which consent would need to have been given by both parties to obtain... i'm not as familiar with the thai side of things, but even in australia, if both parents are australian, and one party doesn't sign, the other can't take their child overseas, not even for a holiday.

  7. Hi fellow farangs. Like most of you either living or regularly visiting Bangkok or I guess Thailand in general, we’ve probably come across a heap of taxi or tuk tuk drivers that want to spend more time not working and pick up a big fare without turning on the meter or ones that are so rude you just want to smack out but occasionally, and maybe I’ve been lucky but in more recent times we’ve come across some more decent ones. The reason why I’m writing this post is not to have a go at taxi drivers but because we got a bit annoyed after hearing what happened from a taxi driver today so I wanted to share what happened.

We got into the taxi and the guy without hesitation started driving and picked up that we were speaking both a mixture of English and Thai and we got into a conversation. Turns out he was a decent bloke, well mannered, spoke politely and did all the right things that you would expect for a pain free cab ride home. After a little chatting, he told us what happened to him earlier on in the day. At 6pm, a farang youngish couple he was guessing around ages of 30 jumped into a taxi (you know what traffic’s like at this time of day) from Silom and wanted to go to somewhere down Khao San Rd. As they got into the taxi, quite abruptly they told him to turn on the meter (which is fair enough since lots of drivers these days try to prey on tourists) however what I thought was really rude was when they arrived at their destination, the fare came to 95 baht. The couple argued with the taxi driver that their previous fare was only 75 baht and didn’t want to pay the full metered fare. The poor bloke was telling us he didn’t speak enough English to try to explain to them that the fair was probably higher because of traffic jams. So, in the end, the driver with his little language knowledge said “nevermind” and accepted the 75 baht.

I’ve seen some disgusting behavior from tourists like this where people have taken 2 beers from drink vendors at floating markets and only pay for one thinking they’re great for getting a bargain on something that’s already dirt cheap and you know these little guys don’t charge any more than what you’d pay at a 7/11 or Tesco.

Yes there’s a fair share of scum out there that try to rip off the farangs but there’s also a lot of decent people around. Let’s not taint them too. When we have visitors come over, we do warn them to watch out not to get ripped off in general, but also to be fair. 20 baht for some of us back home can’t even buy a bottle of water, but it could buy a working person here their lunch. wai2.gif

  8. Hi everyone, I've just renewed from the 1 year to 5 year license and rather than bombarding the forum with all the details, I've share about the experience here http://i3ruceky.com/?page_id=1835 hopefully it helps.

Quick background if it helps to set a scenario, I have a Full South Australian Drivers License and am here on a partner visa where I can't work so I don't have a work permit and I'm based in Bangkok.
