I feel ill and offended when I see 2 guys kissing, I can watch 2 girls kissing all day long.
Its the way we were brought up, it's not our fault, we learnt from shows like the Brady Bunch.
I'm not bothered about gay men or their behavior but to all you queer guys keep it behind closed doors.
Very big of you to allow homosexuals to do whatever they want at home.

racism ? go away. what a total joke. i staunchly reject your nonsense.
not knowing many thai people ? does my wife of 17 years count ? or living here for over 10 years help ? grasp of local language ? i mean my thai isn't perfect but i understand about 80 percent of what i hear. my grammar isn't great but after i go back to phuket in a couple weeks i am enrolling in a language school.
is that ignorant enough for you ?
yes i know they are people like us....however they seem to have a difficult time driving safely. i am quite sure there is no debate on that. hence my points. generally people can be *rewired* to think and act differently. look into the MADD program in canada for a good view of what im talking about.
where in any of my comment did i say i don't like thai people ? stop putting words into my mouth....... but you go ahead and white knight all day don't let me stop you
The comments were textbook racism. Bigotry is defined in the dictionary as "obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction, in particular prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group" in this case the group being "thai people".
As for not knowing many Thais - no, your wife doesn't count to be honest. if you have to invoke "the wife" when it comes to your association with Thai people, it's already game over. Many of us here have actual Thai friends and Thai colleagues - people we know really well and hang out with.
As for Thai driving. I don't think the driving here is that bad considering there is close to zero on the road enforcement of traffic laws. So the bad apples get to be REALLY bad with no recourse. That's what's going on her. Thai people don't really have a problem driving - there's just a lot of knobs on the road driving with impunity. The UK would be the same if you took the cops/cameras off the road.

I always marvel at comments like this. This is pure racism. It's also the result of not knowing many Thai people or having a grasp of the local language.
It always fascinates me how many expats have such a low opinion of the locals here, yet they seem to want to remain here - amongst people they don't like OR understand.
There's nothing wrong with the brains of Thai people - they are just people like any of us. Thai society is indeed unique - but how many countries could exist without a functional police force and be so peaceful? Most places with bad police are overrun with crime.
You do have to scratch beneath the cultural veneer here to understand people properly. But these racist comments are the result of lazy thinking

With a family there are so many better and also cheaper alternatives to Pattaya.
I am not sure that's true. Or rather - it depends on the age of the kids.
There are so many things to do in Pattaya for kids - water parks, zip lining, the zoo is a day trip, underwater world, the floating market, Ripleys etc. etc.
Most places that are 'family friendly' are quite dull for kids. Koh Chang is a typical example - it's beautiful but for kids it's dull. Samui also doesn't have that much to offer for kids too.

Who the hell takes their wife and kids to Pattaya............?
Even in BKK I see mid-forties/fifties farangs their with their similarly aged farang wive's.....why?
They are just torturing themselves as they walk past the bars.......you can see their eyes flicking left and right...poor s**s
I do - and so do Bangkok families. It's the closes beach resort to Bangkok for a start and it's got tons of stuff to do with the kids.
My kids always thought it WAS a family destination - what with all the grandads talking to their Asian granddaughters on those early evening strolls along the beach...

There's a little out-of-the-way shop in Krungthep Krita road - prices start at 100THB for hydroponically grown weed.
Here's the location: https://maps.app.goo.gl/iAW5WNNFe2SvdxoTA
Worth checking out.

So, has anyone found an accountant that can sort this out? I am transferring a year's worth of expenses to a new bank account and I won't add any money to it after Dec 31. I am hoping to show this is savings that I am living off (which it is) - and avoid the local taxation.
What I don't want to do is argue the toss over this with someone in RD. I want an accountant that knows the laws to do it.

Everyone is different.
If I were you, I'd try 20mg first, then up it to 40mg and so on. 40 would get most people stoned but you might find you need 60mg.
I got some gummies a couple of weeks ago. It was 500mg and 8 gummies. I ate 2 (125mg), which is a good dose for me personally. I'm stoned but functional and can sit in the pub and have a conversation with people. Anyway, I felt nothing after 2 hours - so I presumed they were not measured out right and I took another 2. 5 minutes later, the first 2 kicked in.
The result? My legs wouldn't work. I couldn't stand up and spent the night on the kitchen floor with the dog climbing over me every few minutes. The wife must have put some pillows down for me and I had the best nights sleep in ages.

Research is not exactly clear on this - but here's some interesting reading - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9545209/
In particular "Extensions in closing hours in populous municipalities decrease accidents, whereas the opposite is true for rural municipalities"

Did you get tickets for Feb next year?
My son and his friends and going to try to get some on the 3rd Nov.
No - we usually sort it out the week before. The complimentary tickets are already allocated to my mate, so it's just a matter of putting our name against them, then picking them up on the day.

I wonder if this will even make a dent in the number of them hanging around Soi 13 every night.
They could round up all of these creeps in one swoop if they wanted to.
So, if you still see these creeps on Sukhomvit, all this means was that a brown envelope was not forthcoming.
I believe this wont make a difference...
- there are multiple Nigerian drug gangs in Bangkok
- local BiB are paid to leave them alone in lower Suk
Be nice to see them all gone for sure - but this wont do it

I read years ago that Bangkok is not on the established tour route for musicians. Most (not all maybe) of the people who come are has-beens.
I got comped tickets to Ed Sheeran - both his tours here. When I went to pick up the tickets - I got a good look at the seating plan for the complimentary tickets - and I'd say at least 300 were allocated to the BIB. Not sure if that helps things.

Of course they are not normal....by definition a small 5% or so people who are homosexuals are not normal.....it is the 95% who are normal. Maybe its an age thing but I'm a two gender person and won't be forced by others to call deviants 'normal'.
Tell me wowser, are pedophiles normal people?
My opinion is different. Gay people are simply people with a less common sexual preference. That's quite minor in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't make them "not normal", it just means their sexual preference is outside the mainstream. I wouldn't judge anyone based on their sexual preference as long as it isn't harming anyone. It is such a small part of who we are, it's close to irrelevant.
There's quite a number of gay guys/gals in our social circle and I feel there's much more in common than the differences. So to me, they are simply just people.
As for pedophiles - and I cannot believe you compared gays to pedophiles - they do considerable harm in acting out their sexual preference, these people are destroying lives, so no - they aren't normal people, they are vile predators. Gays are not.

Ladprao. Near Wat Ladprao.
Ladprao MRT is super convenient. It has plenty of parking for motorbikes, bikes and cars, a gourmet market, food court etc. so I can pick up some farang essentials while I am passing through without having to make a dedicated trip to a supermarket. Then the MRT takes under 15 minutes to Asoke.
For malls we have Central Eastville, CDC, Crystal Park within a 5 minute drive. Huamum night market is good (although better before Covid). The new yellow line monorail. Very convenient.
I have a small farm near Korat so it makes escaping the city at weekends easy as I can hop on the Chalong Rat Epxressway heading north.
Thanks - I'm a Big fan of CDC for a night out.

I prefer the 'burbs.
Less traffic, less polluted, no tourists, no police shakedowns, local style shops/restaurants, open air markets etc.
The only thing I need to go downtown for is pubs and 'fun', in which case I can get the MRT to Asoke in 15 minutes. I normally do that a couple of times a week. It keeps me from slipping into too much of an unhealthy lifestyle as well, I'd end up going out every night if I lived downtown.
Can I ask which area you live in?
