  1. These virtue signaling attention seekers are so desperate to parade their morality, they'll take offense at anything.

Its usually White people hysterical on behalf of another race.

Of course no one here is racist, we are talking about a small group of people on Sukhumvit who were from Africa, and making a lot of problems for the locals.

If they were from Scandinavia we would say exactly the same.

But you can't stop the PC brigade, they are desperate and angry!

  2. Very interesting, thanks for the information, and the detailed explanation jsflynn603 .

But I'm still rather confused. Is there danger in eating ordinary somtam when in BKK or CM, and not in Issan?

Is the sauce they use OK? It was when I saw home made sauce in BKK recently that I had to wonder. The woman there said it was OK, no parasites, as they used a lot of salt, which wasn't so convincing.

Its a great favourite of mine, but I've never been able to clarify the level of risk for ordinary Somtam.

    Thank you

  3. >I don't look down on Africans.  I only look down on you @t8769, and I wish you were the only one.

The pompous, sneering, self-appointed moral guardian.

Always on the look out to be offended on behalf of another race or gender.
Ready to condemn those considered beneath them, with moral outrage.
Insults always used, and the racism card is a must.
Lecturing others and virtue-signalling their superiority.

  4. What's the deal with Som tam and liver fluke?

Is it safe to eat if not in the North? Here in Bangkok I thought it was safe as they would use factory sauce, but the local somtam person uses home made sauce.

They say its safe as they use lots of salt, and its properly made, but I'm not so sure.

I know this can be a dangerous thing causing cancer in many up North. How safe is it in Bangkok?

    Is home made sauce safe?

    Thanks

  5. Yes, the Braun just leaks hair, and doesn't really need cleaning.
They say the special cleaner gives a better shave, but I don't see how that's likely, its expensive.

But the Braun blades can't be sharpened. That's OK if you have thin hair, but as my hair has the strength of barbed wire, its a problem.

  6. Here's a tip that will keep you looking good.

Buy an electric rotary shaver, these can easily be sharpened using a glass mirror. You will never have to buy replacement blades and they will always remain sharp.

You can't do this with a Braun electric shaver.

  7. Many thanks for the information - most helpful!

Do most people have a separate PC for downloading, for security - or just download to their main PCs?

I only had a Torrent virus once, that was 10 years ago.

I'm using Win10's built in antivirus, have not had any problems so far - though some people say there are better.

    Cheers

  8. There used to be a shop in Nana Square (Soi 2, Sukhumvit) selling seconds from North Face, Kathmandu, REI and other hiking gear companies, lots of good, authentic clothes at good prices.

They closed last year, anyone know where they went or another, similar store in BKK?

    Thanks

  9. Interesting.

Qatar is much cheaper than Emirates and does not charge to book a preferred seat in advance.

Though it may be worth paying all the extra money for a seat upstairs on the A380, I am getting a little old to squeeze in the cheap seats.

At least its not the old days, when you had to wait for the two movies to be played and then try to see the screen over people's heads.

  10. Thanks for the info - most interesting.

I recently flew Air China via Taipei, which was very good and no fee to book seats, I was shocked to find Qantas, Emirates and others now charge for this. It was a bit crampt but the service was excellent and Taipei airport very nice.

I see that that Eva air only charges a little to change return date, while others can charge a fortune, half the ticket fee. I often change dates, so this is worth remembering.

The only way I'm flying BA again is under sedation, I cancelled a recent ThaiAir flight when I found out it was partly via BA.

Agree, the 777 is not so comfortable as the A380.

I am amazed at the cheapness of air tickets, what else can you get for the same price as 10 years ago, I don't know whether they are being under-written by Arab governments but I can't imagine they make a penny on Economy tickets.

Ps - I thought it was a rather funny joke - lighten up man.

  11. > And then his failed Muslim ban didn't even include Saudi

It wasn't a Muslim ban, it only  effected a few countries identified by the Obama regime as dangerous.

It did not fail, it went ahead

It didn't include any Muslim country which had sufficient vetting procedures.

  12. I've found Emirates to be excellent, but note Qatar airlines are offering some amazingly cheap deals for Economy, Europe to BKK.

Seat Guru says Qatar is only 1" shorter seat space than Emirates, but Google Travel says 4".

How have people found these airlines, worth paying a little extra for Emirates?

    Thanks
