  1. I do think a well presented bar which has some decent money spent would at least cover its costs, got sell my house on Samui first, which is definately the hard bit at the moment !

Unless somebody wants to do a house swap? Koh Samui for Khon Kaen.

  2. Well the best run bar, which has falang food a live band and reasonable drink prices is no1 bar, which is currently on the market.

As for a gap in the market, know matter what concept you come up with there is not the customer base to be successful just my honest opinion.

Agreed, would not be just a bar, would have to have a marketable theme that could appeal to locals, a fine balance, maybe an Irish bar!!! :-) An American diner with bar attached. Would definately have to serve a Sunday roast.

  3. After doing some research, there does not seem to be a stand out farang ( food and drink) bar in Khon Kaen City. Do any of the residents that view this forum think there could be a gap in the market?

    Thanks

    M.

  4. Boater is that Surly a typo. Made me chuckle. 1 tip for any prospective sellers, Chinese and russian adverts. Possible have Chinese business consultants interested at full asking price. If you REALLY want to sell how much is a few thousand baht for a translation and post. Euro market is dead at the mo, without comprimising my source, much land and Very large property has just gone east, food for thought !

And that was Surat thani too. Am amazed.B

  5. Our house is listed at a lot less than the land/build cost would be now, however the size of the house and the global economy work against a sale. The agents here encourage you to set the price as they have not really got a clue. As there is such a variation of size, views, build quality etc it is very hard to predict a sale price. Much easier for example in a street of semi detached houses in England, to give a pretty accurate valuation.

Quite a few actually turned us down as their books are too full and they just have not got the time to come and value, market etc.

Just for the record I actually valued and set the price lower than all the valuations, you have to do your own research and browsing of other properties to form your own realistic valuation.

  6. My friends shopped around recently, and they opted for Bkk Samui, actually cheaper than Bandon they claimed. Baby was born fit and well, cost was around the 50k mark, including a cast of the babies feet. As for the Dr you could possibly ask for another? You are the customer, and paying privately, the female peadatrician there is excellent so if anything was complicated I would feel a lot better with her in the fold.

I personally will never use Bkk Samui hospital again, I find the Insurance dept staff ( thai and falang) some of the most surly and I'll mannered people in any customer service department I have encountered. Maybe the international hospital next time for me!

Will miss the food at Bkk Samui though!

  7. Open a Thai bank account first, then transfer your sterling to a middle man ( currency trader ), I have used the FX firm for large amounts. For smaller amounts I just send Sterling from my English account straight to one of my Thai accounts. The Thai bank rates for accepting sterling via telex transfer are quite reasonable, but not for large amounts though.

Not an expert but this system works for me.

    Regards
