  1. Dear Thai lady.. If you don't understand the posts here don't worry.. I am a farang and I don't understand them either.. someone said earlier that it is not a good idea to use Thai Visa to understand farang.. I agree.. I would suggest finding farang people you can talk to rather than internet chat rooms.. good luck :)

  2. Her shirt says it all whistling.gifblink.png

And she probably don't even know what the symbols on the shirt means. Thais will buy shirts with symbols or vulgar English words without having a clue what they mean. The wife and periodically buy some tee-shirts from this one market vender in the wife's home town...we'll ask the vendor to show us some new shirts she'll got in since our last buy...and almost every time the vendor will show us shirts with stupid or vulgar English words on them and the vendor ain't got a clue what the words mean....my wife will tell the vendor what the words mean and the vendor's usual response is, "I don't know...Thais like shirts with English words even when not understanding the words/symbol...the shirt just has to look good to them."

Reminds me of a time my girl asked me "you give me money buy Tshirt" "ok" i said .. she came back 20 mins later with a big smile and said "you like?" and showed me the Tshirt.. it said "I'm with stupid"

  3. Hate to tell you this guys but this happens a lot in the USA. Go to some road house bar in the middle of nowhere with rednecks and bikers and see what happens. You better not look at anyone the wrong way or walk in as a stranger. Being from Texas where there is omly 1 bar every 50 miles I have seen many guys stabbed, dragged behind pickups and the like and some killed. The local law doesn't care or will take the time to investigate.

Great, you're talking about "locals" . . . but how many "tourists" get killed in this way over there?

Maybe that's because the 'tourists' in the US don't behave like drunken aggressive idiots like the 'tourists' in Thailand so often do?..

  4. I find it ridiculous how so many posters in this forum routinely take something like this and turn it into a 'Thai vs. farang' thing. This is a case of drunk people (note: people, not Thai or farang) getting involved in a stupid bar fight that escelated to a point where someone was tragically killed. I worked in the bar business for 10 years and have seen similar incidents happen many times; 99% of the time they have nothing to do with race and everything to do with boozy aggression. They usually don't end up with someone getting killed but they very well can - and do - anywhere in the world. Incredible: a bar fight breaks out and someone gets killed - let's blame it all on Thai society!

mmmmm . . . can't speak about the USA or other countries, but I don't remember that many people getting stabbed, beaten or killed in any bar fights in the UK.

And as we are in Thailand, and it involved Thai + foreigners, surely it is indeed a Thai vs Farang thing? Yes, it's stupid, yes, it involved alcohol, but do you not think that (in most instances) it's the Thai's generally that take things too far and overreact to most things with violence in these situations?

(and before you say it, yes I'm generalising and oversimplifying things, but I think it's appropriate here)

"it's the Thai's generally that take things too far and overreact to most things with violence in these situations?" I have spent countless hours in bars in Thailand over many years and I totally disagree with this comment.. I would say 9 times out of 10 it's drunken, often aggressive, Farangs that 'take things too far' as you put it..

  5. EVIL MEN FROM KRABI

Another feather in the cap for KRABI TOURISM where you get raped fro havin dinner with a guy and killed for singing Karaoke

    Nice place

It's astonishing the way people LEAP to distort things without any concern for facts, as long as it serves to support their basic outlook: nothing in the article suggest that anyone was killed for singing karaoke. (And unfortunately it is hardly an exclusively Thai thing for people to be raped after having dinner with someone - or to be killed in a fight outside a bar, for that matter).

Well Said SteeleJoe.. Almost every comment in this thread is full of assumptions.. lets face it anyone who was not present doesn't actually know the truth of what happened.. I'm always stunned how so many posters on TV seem to have such a low opinion of Thai people.. and are so full of 'holier than thou' attitude.. so why are you here?

If there were as many Thais in European and the US pubs and bars behaving like so many drunken pig headed Farang do in bars in Thailand it would hardly be surprising to hear of fights, stabbings, deaths etc occurring in exactely the same way in reverse.. Then of course those same judges whose posts litter TV would no doubt still be blaming the Thais.

  6. I knew it as soon as I read this story and I was right.. post after post denigrating and insulting thai people.. why are you all here? ..and if you live in Thailand why on earth would you live in a country in which you seem to think it's people are so beneath you?
For goodness sake accidents like this happen in every country.. there are idiot drivers in every country.. driving too close to the car in front happens in every country.. Blaming conditions happens in every country.. Why is it that people need to insult and put down others just to make themselves feel superior and somehow without fault?
All you do by so freely mocking and blaming Thai people and their culture, as if they are inferior, is show the same ignorance that you seem to so love accusing them of.

All countries and all cultures have their faults and also their good sides.. instead of being so ready to criticise in order to make ourselves feel superior how about some kindness, understanding and intelligence.. We are all in the same boat (planet earth) and it's surely about time we all got on and started trying to see beyond the differences.. these people are our brothers and sisters..

You may laugh at this and say I am making a big deal out of a few jokes or whatever but what I am saying needs to be said.. The kind of attitude that is behind this mocking of our fellow man and woman is the cause of most of the wars and suffering in this world.. It's time for change and it starts with us changing those attitudes..
Something I have noticed during my many visits to Thailand and other countries too is that if you treat people with respect and trust you usually find they trust and respect you in return.. and if you mistrust them or mock them that is just what you get back.. which then reinforces your misguided belief that they are to blame..
If you think the Thais will take advantage of you and are only interested in your money and that is your attitude to them that is probably what will happen. I never felt like that and in all my years in Thailand I never got taken advantage of.. and that holds true in every country worldwide.

People have often called me a fool for being so trusting in Thailand but I assure you Thai people are acutely aware of how westerners mistrust them and respond accordingly.

Try a little openness and trust.. you may just be very surprised!

  7. Sorry but the song is about as bad as the video-absolute crap!

    sms747

One of the first things you learn as a live performer is that there's no way everyone is going to like what you do.. and to those who don't like it I say 'fine, you are free to go find what ever it is you do like' but those who come and throw insults just because they get some kind of weird ego satisfaction from it well I reckon that just reveals you have some kind of chip on your shoulder or something.. like people who have to put others down to make themselves feel good.. Hmm..

I perform regularly in pubs and clubs and people come to see me because they enjoy what i do so the statement "absolute crap" is just your opinion dude not a statement of fact as you try make it sound.

    clip and morroco

    Cheers for you comments smile.png

  8. I wouldn't mind weaker baht, but somehow I don't think there would be anything near 75baht for a £

With the greater financial discipline within the UK, and the strong sense of urgency, as well as sound policies, for overcoming its current problems - far more than within the EU - there is no fundamental reason why we should not see the heady days of THB 75 to the GBP once again.

Your post displays an immense confidence in the UK government and Merv's policies and the complete opposite in Thailand's government to continue its successful administration of the country.

Dream on. The West will be in a permi-recession for the foreseeable future. Just bumping along the bottom.

Has nobody yet realised that the poster GeorgeO might be using that name because he truly believes that George Osborne, the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, will succeed in guiding his country to recovery - or maybe he's taking the piss?

Maybe he IS George Osborne laugh.png

  9. They can consult with the USA, they know how to print money at extreme fast rates. I guess the Thai Baht will race the US $ to the bottom

Perhaps some of the doom and gloom views might change if the respondents took into consideration the characteristics of the Thai economy. As some astute people have noted Thailand is an export driven economy. What part of 2/3 thirds of the GDP based upon exports do the negative nabobs not understand? When agriculture is a major component and when the sector provides almost 50% of the nation's employment, it reinforces the importance of protecting export markets, even if it means adjusting the value of the baht.

In respect to the unfounded comment on the USD, Perhaps one should have a look at the numbers. Rather than rely on FOX TV for information, I suggest one look to a FOX sister company, the Wall Street Journal laugh.png . I love Thai Airways because I can always get a copy of the WSJ which is practically unavailable in Phuket.

WSJ reported as follows; After a year of swings, the U.S. dollar finished within roughly 3% of where it started the year against most major developed-market currencies. That included the euro, where the dollar finished up 3.3% as the long-simmering European debt crisis reached a boiling point and investors contemplated the breakup of the economic union that underpins the common currency. The main exception was the yen, which, despite a raft of troubles for Japan, rose more than 5% against the dollar. The U.S. Dollar Index, which measures the greenback's performance against a basket of currencies, rose 1.5% in 2011.

As long as the EU is in a mess that keeps getting worse, the pressure is on the Euro, not the USD. The US is most likely through the worst of its mess. This gives the Thai baht some breathing room. Keep in mind that China is undertaking direct FX pools and transactions which will assist the Thai baht, albeit in a small way. The USD is ok, provided the Republican teapot faction doesn't pull another tantrum.

Dear geriatrickid, I'm afraid your post really is laughable!. Quoting the USD index numbers for one year hardly gives the real picture. A clearer picture would be shown by quoting that the USD has fallen nearly 40% in the last ten years even considering the rally since 2008. I don't have the time to present the wealth of evidence that is there for anyone to find but the fact is the USD is in a huge downtrend and the worst is yet to come.. the USD is going to fall off a cliff.. maybe this year maybe next year but when it does it will drop like a stone US debt is second to none and guess who's manning the $$$ printing presses: Ben 'Helicopter' Bernanke! I sense a little patriotic defence in your post so please don't get me wrong there is nothing anti American in my thoughts, if you read my other post on this thread you will see that my opinion of British financial incompetency equals that of the USA.

Gosh George I have to say who on earth do you listen to and more to the point who do believe?

"Greater financial discipline within the UK" has got to be the joke of the decade!

The Brits, and yes I am one, are, along with the Americans the world leaders at how to create financial disaster.

To put it simply: Imagine you have a credit card and every time you run out of money you simply increase your credit limit.. well that's what our wonderful governments just keep on doing and then they give it grand names like Quantative easing. If an individual citizen was able to behave in such an outrageous fashion he would be called a criminal and the fact is there can be only one end result: hyperinflation which will end in a worthless currency.

kennalder has got it right; the whole global financial farce will end with all currencies in a race to the bottom.

The only real currency which will hold it's value is Gold and incidentally Good ol' Gordon Brown sold 60% of UK gold reserves 10 years ago when the price of gold was about £200 per ounce.. It is now over £1,000 and climbing fast every year. That is a loss to the British taxpayer of over £10.5 Billion.

The Thai government on the other hand have been buying gold and now hold over 132 tonnes.

In 1950 the UK had over 2,000 tonnes but now have a tad more than 200 tonnes.

I'm afraid those 'sound policies' you are talking about are not even touching the tip of the iceberg. In fact they are just slowing down a very deeply troubled economy. Meanwhile our good old boys in Government have not really changed their ways at all they continue to stitch up the people and pay off the banksters and their friends in the City. Fortunately their days are numbered.

  11. lesson No 1 Dont drink in bars in Thailand.

lesson No 2 Listen to lesson No1

The last time i drank in a bar would of been 3 years ago in Patpong. A fellow Australian albeit a bogan was pulling faces at me and basically itching for a fight. I ignored his neolithic mating calls and eventually he shuffled off dragging his knuckles along behind him. What a retard. These farang bar flies are all the same. I dont believe the perp penned the letter either.Definitely not written by a bar bogan.

As for the bit about the mafia whacking him? What a load of rubbish. Since when did the mafia start going around whacking 'dime a dozen' farangs in LOS ?

Ive been regularly drinking in bars in Thailand for many years and never had any problems.. never even seen a fight.. (unless I forgot lol)

I'm not saying they dont happen.. sure there are plenty of drunken idiots around and of course they get into fights but to suggest it is unsafe to drink in bars in Thailand strikes me as a tad paranoid..

I have seen a lot more bar fights in the uk..

  12. The guy is obviously a dangerous maniac.. too many of the likes of him come to Thailand and give falangs a bad name..

I have on occasions felt I had to apologised to Thai people for the embarrasingly bad behavior of some disrespectful 'guests' to Thailand..

Would Thais behave like that in Europe or the US.. i don't think so..

Fortunately most Thai men can deal with drunken falang idiots and they get what they deserve..

So much visceral bigotry, holier-than-thou attitudes, hypocrisy and keyboard rage on this forum, I often wonder why.

A report about a bar fight, a young man attacked by 10 people who stood his ground and did what any man with a pair of balls would do, fight back.

Good luck to him, I say!

Have none of you ever been picked on by bullies? Have none of you ever stood your ground and fought for your honour?

There is more to this story than meets the eye, and although I'm not saying Mr. Browning's side of the story is the full truth,

Have you watched the youtube video posted earlier on this thread showing Junie getting drunk and tryiing to fight anything that moved?

Lol do you really think this was an innocent young man getting attacked ?

The guy is obviously a psycho..

and personally if I was attacked by 10 people in a bar I run away if I had a chance lol!

I'd call that common sense and I'd call the guy with 'pair of balls' fighting back an idiot.. Lol !

  13. Wrong... On just so many points. Do you live in Phuket? No, I saw you posted you didn't. Look back in this thread and you can see my posts when people implied it was a Thai mob who took on Junie Browning, I pointed out it was Aussies and an American. I don't hang out with farangs. I have Thai family and friends who respect me and I respect them. But after living here for many years, as I said, Phuket in high season changes. People from all over Thailand come here to make money off the tourists. Some of those people could not and do not live here in the off season. The boxing gyms are everywhere now. There used to be about 4. Now just around Rawai there are about 10. There was a British guy who stabbed an American to death after a bar brawl last year here, so they do draw a bad element in my opinion. Do you know much about the mayor of Patong and his son? Do you know about the Patong Tuk Tuk Association? I read you post and you said; "Fortunately most Thai men can deal with drunken falang idiots and they get what they deserve.." So what does that imply? All I said is that this brawl had nothing to do with Thai men... By the way the word sounds like falang, but it is spelled farang. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farang and it's also the name of a fruit in Thai. We call it a Guava. I live on the southern end of the island. Until three years ago we didn't have a bank, there where water buffalo and cows right down the road. Now stupid pool villas are everywhere. But where I live it's still quiet, other than the crickets right now and the birds in the day and there's a nice beach with 83ºF water that I swim at several days a week. So obviously, you don't really know me...

Right Jimi.. I dont know you and you don't know me.. I apologise.. I reacted to your first reply because you completely misinterpreted my post.. I understand now that my statement could have appeared to imply i was refering to this particular incident but infact I was simply making a general comment about Thai men generally being competent fighters when drunken idiots get out of hand.. I have read the whole thread and of course I have no idea exactely what happened and who was involved.. i have no argument with your statements about Phuket.. I am not familiar with the area or any of the locals and of course I'm sure there are still nice unspoit areas around the island.. I am also aware that the word farang is usually spelt with an r but who decides the 'correct ' spelling of thai words in English letters? i don't know i just spell it the way it sounds.. whatever.. fwiw I have never lived in Thailand.. I have stayed for 6 months and 4 months a few times.. most of those times in the North East and Samui.. Cheers ;)

Come on, this is Phuket these days! It's full of MMA and Muay Thai boxing gyms. So they are trying to attract customers from wherever they can. This brawl had nothing to do with Thai men. It was farang against farang if you bothered to read any news accounts. If Phuket would even start to treat their "guests" with a bit more hospitality , unlike the tuk tuk, black plate taxi mob and the jet ski mob and other touts, then you could feel more embarrassed. I personally rarely go out to any bar and have lived locally for many years without a major problem. I really don't care much for high season as it brings in a combination of bad elements , both farang and Thai...

What's attracting boxers got to with it? Most of the drunken idiots are not boxers anyway.. ok this guy is but thats not the point..

I never said this particular brawl had anything to do with Thai men.. read my post..

All these mobs and touts you speak about exsist in every country worldwide.. that's no excuse for condoning this kind of behavior.. and then indirectly blaming the Thias for 'inviting' them..

You are obviously yet another falang who feels superior to and judges Thais..

I have spent many years in Thailand too but stay well clear of Phuket, Pattaya etc.. I love Thai people and Thai culture.

  15. The guy is obviously a dangerous maniac.. too many of the likes of him come to Thailand and give falangs a bad name..
