  1. You're right, I obviously have the terminology wrong so let me see if in understand.

I currently have a Non-immigrant O Visa --(which allows me multiple entry/exits during its 1 year validity)--but when I wish to apply for a longer term stay, with what I thought was called a Retirement Visa, what I'm really applying for is an extension of stay based on retirement....correct??

That retirement extension allows for a 1 year stay, without the need to exit every 90 days, but if I exit then I must apply for a re-entry permit before departing...correct??

Does the 3800 Baht multiple re-entry permit the allow unlimited entry/exits w/o need to apply again during the course of the year??

Thanks for the help. It can be a bit confusing.

  2. I use Korat but WEO last year, always have a bank letter within 1 day of visit.

Forgot to update my bank book last time, wasn't synched with the letter. *&^%!   Had to go back into the city, fix that then return Immigration next day.  They accepted the then 2 day old bank letter, but they knew I was a re-tread from the day before.

Wife and I also take a ride out to Immigration a week or so prior, get the forms and check to see if there are any hot button policy issues or changes.  My general sense of them after 4 years is, if you are organized and polite, they are pretty easy going.

    Very helpful replies. Thanks.

  3. I'm going to apply for a retirement visa at Immigration in Korat in a couple of weeks.

Concerning the 80K Baht balance required in a Thai bank my question is,  if I get the requisite letter confirming the balance from Kasikorn Bank  dated a couple of days before I go to Immigration, is this acceptable?  I heard somewhere that Immigration will not accept bank confirmation letters dated prior to the date of the Immigration visit. But seems impossible to get dated same date unless bank will give post-dated letter which is also unlikely.

Appreciate if anyone could clarify.  Thank you.

  4. I'm confused on when a re-entry permit is required.  Specifically, if I have a non-immigrant multi-entry visa and I need to temporarily leave Thailand during the tenure of the visa, do I need to get a re-entry permit before departing Thailand?  I understand the need if its a single entry visa that was used to enter but it would seem the re-entry permit is not required if entry was on a multi-entry visa, however some web-sites seem to state even then a re-entry is required or you risk invalidating the visa upon departure and have to go through the entire original application  process again.    Appreciate clarification and thanks.

  5. Sorry to ask such a basic question but I've read everything I can and am confused by the conflicting information.

I received my 1 year multiple entry Non-Immigrant O Visa based on Marriage at the Thai Embassy in Singapore a few months ago (I was working/living there) but then retired and am now living in Thailand.

My initial 90 day stay is coming up and my preference is to get an extension without having to leave the country.

I see conflicting information on whether I MUST leave the country to get an extension (another 90 days) or can I apply at the local immigration office for an extension without leaving.

Alternatively is it possible to apply to change the Non-Immigrant O by Marriage visa to another type that would similarly allow me to stay without first leaving?

I'm eligible for the Retirement Visa which according to some I've read seems to be a bit more user friendly.

My real immediate preference is to just get an extension without the need to leave the country.

Would very much appreciate if someone could confirm for me..

    Greatly appreciated.

  6. If you are in the Bangkok area and like the very traditional style, handcrafted Thai furniture, then go to Bangkok Noi on the Thonbury side of the river. Just a block or two down the road from the MAKRO store is a line of small furniture factory/shops that sell a wide variety of that style.

You can take the #40 bus (yellow=ac) from anywhere along Sukhumvit/Rama 1 and alongside MBK directly there; it can be a long ride, sometimes close to an hour.

    Thanks...I'll check it out.

  7. Would appreciate if anyone could advise where to buy quality Thai made wood furniture in Bangkok.

We're looking to buy some dining room and bedroom furniture.

Wanted to drive up to Ban Tawai near Chiang Mai but the wife thinks to far so am hopeful Bangkok has something similar.

    Appreciate any advice.

  8. Hi 2 roads, remember me?

I use to live in khao yai, moved to nearby muaklek.

You can try TT&T in pakchong, they had excellent service, otherwise your only option will be gprs-edge.

    Rono,

Yes of course. Good to hear from you.

Am not familiar with TT&T....assume this is a satellite connection??

Do you recall where they were located in Pak Chong??

  9. We've just finished building our house located near Khao Yai and I need to get an internet service.

If anybody in the KhaoYai/Pak Chong area has a recommendation on a reliable cost effective service I'd appreciate the information.

    Thanks.

  10. I have wired funds many times from my BoA account in Washington State to various Bangkok Bank accounts.

However each time was done by calling BoA. They are very efficient as funds are usually in Bangkok Bank within 24 hours of my call.

However, BoA wire transfer fee is quite expensive so if in fact you find a means to do via on-line banking please let me know.

When I checked this out a couple years ago it was not possilbe but maybe changed since then.

  11. We're building a 2 meter high by 200 meter long wall along one of property boundaries that I want to have covered in some type of vine.

Property is located near Kaho Yai National Park and would appreciate any advice on types of vines that would grow relatively fast and need minimum maintenance.

    Thanks

You say "wall" so I take it that it is a concrete block construction, is the vine covering for camoflage ,aesthetic ,or security purposes and do you intend planting on the sunny or shady side?

    Ozzydom,

Yes, it's a concrete wall. Purpose of the vines would be aesthetic only and would be on the south side of the wall.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  13. I want to visit Phuket but can only dates I can manage overlap with Songkran??

Are the bars, clubs, shops opne or are many shut down because staff retrun to visit their families??

Don't want to show up and have everything closed.

  14. I have an opportunity to come to LOS but it coincides exactly with Songkran.

Would love to visit Pattaya but am worried it will be deserted.

Is that the case or can a good time still be found??

If not Pattaya and other suggestions??

    Thanks

  15. it seems clear from today that the fed rate cuts are not going to stop the US and maybe the world going into a major recession. hence the rosy dollar predictions based on a turn around in the US economy see unlikely.

i have cash in my retirement accounts (in dollars, bummer!) i can buy gold with it it turns out. i can't take possession of the gold because its in a tax differed account and fidelity charges a .125% storage fee every 3 months.

anyhow, any ideas about gold vs. the dollar over the next 6-12 months?

Buy the ETF GLD and you "own" the gold w/o having to take posession or pay storage costs.

Regarding the future direction of gold/dollar you can be sure they will move in opposite directions.

  16. My wife and I are planning to build a house near Khao Yai National Park (Pak Chong).

However, we still live/work outside of Thailand so I need a good project manager to oversee the construction.

Any names or contact information of a constrction project manager in the area would be greatly appreciated.
