  1. I need to buy one now as a lady at the red lights went backwards into my fron! Can you believe it? Fortunately, she has an insurance and admits she was the wrongdoer. Can anyone recommend one? I have read the whole thread and I would want a dashcam that has the following specifications:

1920 x 1080 ; mov-files ; HDMI port ; parking function ; stabilizer ; able to power up from power bank to avoid corrupted files. Anyone knows such a dashcam?

  2. If ever, later on, you want to apply for a passport for the child, you will definitely need a court decision about the childs custody. I know it, just went through it.

If you want absolutely legal custody, only a court decision counts. The paper from the amphoe is worth nothing at all. We had one and a passport couldn't be issued.

  3. They had the DNA samples tested BEFORE they had any real suspects. They were looking for ASIAN suspects on the island. They found two that matched according to what I read. They either have the match or they don't.

As far as the tortured confession, that should be a separate investigation and if wrong-doing then fire and prosecute the guilty. And throw the confession out if that is found.

Then forget all this peripheral BS. Lets get it into court. The DNA match is there or it isn't, that's it!

So what? Even if the DNA matches, it just means that the've been there, or raped the girl, depending on what place on the body the DNA has been found.

It doesn't mean they are the murderers, although very likely. Rape is not murder!

  4. I really hope, the lawyers who accompany the parents, are clever enough to take DNA samples of the 2 suspects and hands them out to the British police officers.

They could then compare the newly collected samples with the DNA they (should have) found on the victim's bodies.

Maybe just a hair is enough?

Only this way, it can be made 100% watertight that RTP hasn't messed around with the DNA.

And even if the DNA then fits, this is not a proof that the 2 Burmese have murdered the young tourists. It just says that they've been in contact with the victims.

Especially in the case of semen on Hannah's body. We're talking about two different charges against the suspects: Rape and murder.

The semen could have been left there by a post-mortem rape as well...!

I know this is very unlikely, but DNA doesn't prove everything. Just sayin'.

  5. A small follow-up: Just for your information about the duration of legal processes in Thailand: Next monday, exactly 7 weeks after the court's decision, we will be handed out the written verdict, which we need to apply for a passport for our son. I really don't get it, why a small family court in Krabi needs 7 weeks, just to produce a single sheet of paper. But, after all, TIT...

Maybe to allow time for others involved to contest the decision?

If you got the paper instantly and then went through a bunch of other steps, it would be a drag for someone to come forward and try to reopen the case. There are similar points in western law (especially in civil/family courts) where, after a ruling, time is given for it to be contested.

I know what you mean. In our case, possible opponents to our application were given 2 months of time to object before the verdict on Sept. 1st. That also makes more sense. Why have a verdict and then give time to possible opponents to object? It's not a democratic process, but a courts decision, which is made only after all possible problems are ruled out. The seven weeks to produce the written verdict were just the time it needed to write it and get it signed by several judges.

  7. It should fairly easy for her mother to get custody at an Amphoe based upon abandonment that would be accepted for the passport office, It may take a couple of witnesses to that fact to get it done.

    Dear OP, dear UbonJoe,

unfortunately, this doesn't work anymore. Here's my experience:

I have lived with my Thai wife and my stepson in Germany for nearly 5 years before we moved to LOS 2,5 years ago. My stepson was issued a passport in Hat Yai 7 years ago, with which he travelled to and stayed in Germany. His mother divorced 15 years ago, and her ex and herself got shared custody of the child. As the father's whereabouts are unknown since then, the amphoe issued a statement that the father doesn't care for the kid and that the mother now has sole custody. The passport issuing authorities in Hat Yai accepted this paper from the amphoe.

Four months ago, we applied for a new passport for the boy in SuratThani and this was denied because we didn't have a COURT decision about the sole custody of the child (sole custody for the mother). We objected and explained (and showed the old passport) that if he had been issued a passport before with these papers, it should work out now as well. They contacted the office in Hat Yai and it was concluded that the first passport shouldn't have been issued at all!! The rules definitely say it has to be a court paper and a paper from the amphoe doesn't count. This is understanable, because it would be too easy to take away parental rights.

So, we went to court now and it was decided in Sept. 1st. that my wife has sole custody.

We will now be able to apply for a new passport (as soon as we get the written decision, which we are waiting for now since 4 weeks)

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards and good luck!

  8. Hi folks,

quite a while since I've been posting here.

I am using my 5DIII on a Lanparte rig for video and I desperately need an anti-twist plate.

This plate is to avoid the camera to twist and loosen itself on the rig-plate and also avoids the camera to turn away when using the follow-focus.

    Here's the plate I need:

    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/885227-REG/iDC_Photo_Video_z_50_0106h_Camera_Plate_HDMI_Cable_For.html

Is there anyone of you, fellow photofreaks who leaves the US and comes to Thailand these days (weeks) and could bring this plate?

The reason is that shipping is very expensive, not to mention customs...

I would be very thankful if anyone could help me out with this one.

The transaction would be done in a safe way of course.

No bad or dishonest intentions on my side: Referring to a deal I've made with Angiud when buying a lens from him.

    Best regards and thanks!

  9. There are easier sites to use,I tried Popcorntime ,but it downloads,

from P2P,torrents,and i did not like that,Solarmovies,is better choice

    for me anyway.

    regards Worgeordie

Links please. I was very disappointed with Solarmovies as it requires you to sign in and register/log in and the new movie releases aren't as up to date as the exceptionally easy to use Popcorntime. We have had this conversation before and I suppose there is no converting you! I might add that I do use a fast internet connection and for our household and numerous devices over wifi it performs flawlessly. "Bravo" Popcorntime for giving the consumer what we want; the kids love it!

Sorry if i upset you, but why the need to download a program (in BETA) to watch movies,

i just click on Solarmovies, no sign in or registering, you can if you want ,but it never asks me too.

    here are some other links,alluc.to, enjoymovieshere.com,movie25.cm,movie4k.to 10starmovies.com

but i only use Solarmovie, has the latest movies, just the same as popcorntime, and the rest as they

get them from all the same sources.

Maybe i will try it again when it comes out of beta, but its the torrent,P2P i worry about, not that i know

how that works, but my firewall was giving problems when i tried it.

If it works OK for you good, but it did not for me,thats all i can say.

    regards Worgeordie

How did you do that? I've just visited the solarmovies site for the first time and I entered my email and a password. I I then tried to watch a movie, they wanted me to create an account and even to enter my credit card number (although they state they won't deduct anything from your card)

    How safe is all this?

I'd love to watch mocies, but I'm a little afraid to enter my credit card details there

All these are more than 4 months old....

Any more recent ones out there?

As you probably know, things can change in the course of 4 months.

  11. You'll have to show proof of recent work as well, so as to prove you're a genuine journalist and not just a beginnner.

After submitting the confirmation letter of (your own) agency, the embassy in the country where the agency is located, will contact the agency by phone, to check if all that is true. If they (already on the letter itself, but also through the phone call) find out it's just one and the same person, you'll have no chance to get that visa.

Their system is quite watertight and I don't think you should try it by setting up you own agency.

On the long term, this might make the rules for genuine journalists more tight as well (ref. to ED-visa)

Not a good idea in my opinion, to try to get through an imaginary loophole there.

  12. They don't have a work permit because they can't get one. You can search the many threads for "freelances" of any type and the answer is always the same: not legally possible.

Inform yourself on ThaiVisa before you post. I've done it for you:

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/687945-work-permit-for-freelance-journalist/

    Enjoy the reading

    A quote from that link:-

"Note that the MFA refers to correspondents wishing to work in the representative office of a foreign media agency or as a representative of such agency. It doesn't mention anything about self-employed freelance foreign journalists."

Perhaps you should be more informed before you have a go at others. This thread is about freelancer photographers and whether they can get work permits.

Go back to your own link and enjoy the reading.

    Dear Zeegator,

apparently, you seem to know a lot about this topic and you seemingly need to "defend" the other poster.

First of all, I didn't have a "Go" on him. I was just telling him to inform himself before giving replies about a topic he doesn't know anything about.

Did you ever apply for a Non-Imm Media Visa? Do you know the procedure?

Have a look at this one here (Page 10, Number 7) http://www.mfa.go.th/main/contents/images/text_editor/files/Guidanceforforeignpress.pdf

    Enjoy the reading!

Would be great, if people on this forum would just answer if they were intending to help solve the question of the OP and stop giving just any comments that are totally wrong and misleading.

    Have a nice day, mate!

  13. SP....sorry for the confusion. I use to have a WP when I was based in our BKK office, I no longer have one as I am on rotation work from another district. When I got my WP I had to relinquish my married visa (not sure why?)..So ever since I been coming in a on a tourist visa every 40 days or so..

Sounds like you were sold a bad one - no reason you can't have a WP on a non-imm O for marriage visa or extension.

Sounds like you were sold a bad one as well - If you apply for a work permit as a journalist and have a non-imm-O for marriage, you do have to switch to a non-imm M and give up your marriage-visa.

  14. I just went online and got what seems like a reasonable quote of $800.00 although I am unsure if this is for 1 month or the 364 days I put down.

    Any insight?

Overall for the year, i.e. Accidental death & dismemberment insured and spouse USD 10,000.

You can only die once and the coverage doesn't appear heavy-duty.

The premiums referenced above are applicable for the initial 364-day coverage period...

    http://www2.sevencorners.com/downloads/brochures/reside_br.pdf

Does that mean they will increase the premium from year to year and then end up at several thousands per year?

  15. Perhaps, in my optimistic, personal, biased, self righteous opinion...

There may be a silver lining in these revelations. I hope, as Thailand is counted amongst 10 other viable retirement options (many of which cater to retirees and their hard earned cash reserves, maybe we will be permitted permanent resident status in the future...much the same as, for example, I did in the Philippines. Report just once a year.... no visa headaches/hassles. A little saved face for my efforts to enjoy the retired life here in Thailand. Making me more human, in the process.

Would be great if immigration would make it easier to stay with my legally married wife and with my kid(s). (No more 90-days-visit, resident visa) Would feel a little more human as well. But it's exactly the situation with the border-runners, that make immigration suspicious. And honest people with the correct visa have to suffer because of these blokes.

Maybe, things will get better for us soon?

  16. WOW!!!

It always amazes me the amount of Farang that support the PDRC aka yellow shirts in Thailand since most if not all Farang countries are democracries. Do you ever take into consideration the simple and honest fact that Yingluck was ELECTED PM by the majority of Thai people and was run out of office by a minority of people???

Are you all in favor of over throwing democratically elected officials if you don't agree with their policies?? If you do I suggest you go home and do that with your native government instead of siding with a bunch of people who say that poor persons are too stupid to vote and anyone without a bachelors degree should have no say in who is prime minister....Or maybe that's why you've come to Thailand in the first place, you know to keep those young thai whores in the hole.

Don't worry though because the PDRC and Wealthy Thais have no need for Farangs like the poor working class does. Enjoy it while it last. Continue to watch Blue Sky television instead of any free media that shows the MAJORITY of Thais not even including red shirts that want a DEMOCRATIC country.

Minority ? Would you say the whole South of Thailand is a minority? This is what is always written by foreign press as well and it's totally untrue, that the yellow shirt movement consists of just some elite members of society. It's at least the whole South and bit by bit, more and more people in the North as well, because they know exactly who's been cheating them (rice scam as an example)

    Have a nice day!
