  1. my wife and i will be moving to thiland soon...i have a bank account with the bangkok bank there....i also have an account with bank of america here in the u.s. i know that i can transfer money over before we leave...but what i need to know is this....has anybody there written a personal check from their bank account from a u.s. bank and then deposited it in their bank account with the bangkok bank....if you have were there any problems doing this and about how long did it take for the check to clear and the money to appear in you account...

  2. In order to get an extention on your 90 day non-immigrant o visa you have to show proof of income of at least 40,000 baht a month..

    Now my question is this..

    do have to show immigration that you receive an income of atleast that much or do you have to show immigration that you transfer 40k a month to a thai bank account

    can somebody please explain this to me....

  3. can anybody explain to me why so many thais want to  come and live in the u.s. while on the flip side so many  farangs want to  go back and live forever in thailand...other than the fact that maybe they think their going to come here and get rich...why on earth would they want to live in the u.s.of a...I  cant wait get out...any comments :cool:
  4. Before i retire and move back to thailand which will be soon i want to come over first visit the wifes family and also start a bank account with the bangkok bank in phrae...

     What i want to know is it possible , since i,m only going to be there this time on a 60 day tourist visa to open the account in my wifes name and my name.....then when i get back to the states start to wire transfer money to this account.....

       I,ve been sending my sister in law money this way for almost 10 years..she has her own account...the max amount is 2500 dollars/us...per transfer...i send a bank check to the bangkok bank in new york put the name..acct.#.and branch the fee is 15 dollars...takes about 2 days...bank sends me back a receipt showing me the amount transfered in baht..

      back to the original question...can  my wife and i go back and open the account in our names only.....

        P.S.  if i have to i can always add my sister in laws name to the account...

    WE HAVE BEEN LIVING IN THE STATES FOR OVER 30 YEARS NOW...THAI TV IS ON ALL DAY....THAI MAGS AND NEWSPAPERS SENT ALL THE TIME....THAI FOOD EATEN EVERY

    DAY....NEVER MISS A BIG EVENT AT THE LOCAL TEMPLE...MOSTLY THAI SPOKEN AROUND THE HOUSE...SO FAR SO GOOD....NEXT YEAR WE WILL MOVE BACK TO GOOD OLD THAILAND....DO YOU THINK I,M READY???

  6. :cool: next year i will retire and move to thailand.new york has a branch of the bangkok bank there....can i direct deposit

    my retirement check with them here and when i get over to thailand show the thais what i have done and then apply for a one year retirement visa....or am i going to have to start from scratch when i get there......

        also if i deposit money in an account with the bangkok bank here will i be able to walk into any branch in thailand

    and withdraw money i need....

  7. I have been married to a thai for almost 33 years...next year i will retire and move back to thailand...seems to me from reading all the posts that its better to be single wait a girlfriend than to be married to be able to live in pattaya..

      does anybodt know the percent of single farangs to married farangs that live there...right now its hard to make up our minds what part of the country to live in...north or south...

NEXT YEAR I WILL RETIRE...MY WIFE AND I WANT TO LIVE IN THAILAND...SHE COMES FROM A CITY CALLED PHRAE...ITS UP NORTH ABOUT 75 MILES SOUTH OF CHIANG MAI...HER HOME IS 25 MILES FROM DOWNTOWN...ITS LIKE GOING BACK IN TIME A 100 YEARS...WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS THERE ANY EXPATS LIVING UP IN THAT GENERAL AREA OR WILL I BE THE ONLY ONE?????IT WOULD BE NICE TO TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT LIVING UP THERE...ONE THING FOR SURE...YOU ALMOST HAVE TO LEARN A NEW LANGUAGE THEY DONT SPEAK REGULAR THAI.....THANKS...WALT
