Most of the Aussie travel insurance policies require that you you take them before leaving Australia. You can still buy online most of them, but if you need to use them your claim may be denied if they see your passport stamps.

I use Atlas Travel, Safetywing is pretty much the same, but the cover for 72 years old will be low.

You can check World Nomads, covid time they stopped issuing policies for Aussies, maybe they started issuing policies again.

Thanks for your concern, eligibility for cover was confirmed in writing by Customer Service. All that was mandatory was my journey began and will end in Australia. My provider is affiliated with World Nomads

Thank you again Treetops. The first link led to 2 that provided cover. After checking them out I have gone with nib Travel Insurance.

Thanks Treetops, I appreciate your help, I checked both out. Would have been good, except with slight differences, they are eligible only if you are from UK/ Europe and under 65/69.

  5. I would appreciate advice on the best option for me to get a Non O A Visa. I have researched the Forum but not found a clear answer to my current personal situation following the crackdown on Visa Exempt entries.

I am Australian. I have been working FIFO with Thailand as my base since 2008. I own an Apartment in Pattaya and since 2013 have spent between 2 and 4 weeks there or in Saraburi 3 to 8 times a year. This year due to a lousy Rota it was only twice for a total of 4 weeks until my current visit. (Between 2008 and 2013 I was travelling monthly for weekends  from within the region so have have literally dozens of Visa Exempt entries  but not all in this current Passport).
I have now decided to retire and will seek a 'Non Immigrant O A'; my question is what is recommended by the wise members such as Ubon Joe as the best way to go about it in my case?
I entered 30 day Visa Exempt on 8th November. I need to have Surgery (Bumrungrad) next week with a requisite few weeks recovery so plan to seek a 30 day extension in Saraburi Immigration. If I return to Australia at the end of that extension what is my easiest and best option to end up with  the O A when I return late January after my 800k bank seasoning period?

    A) Apply for the O A at Thai Canberra Embassy?  Looking at their website it seems they seek more documentation than if I apply in Thailand, Police Clearance, notarised copies etc.  I cannot see the option to apply for an O type and then later convert it here as I have seen suggested in the Forum ( I am not legally married here)
    B) Enter Visa Exempt and then apply for the Non O A in Saraburi or BKK, or
    C) As I have numerous Visa Exempts over the 4 years, approx 20 since this Passport was issued in 2012 would it be better to get a SETV in Australia, enter on that and then seek the Non OA here or maybe exit and apply for a Non O in Savannakhet and then convert to O A  back here in Thailand, or
    D) Apply for the Non O A in Savannahket?

Thanks for your help and advice.

  6. Both Thailand Elite and MM2H are very good programs. But different programs.

Without going into details, the main difference is this:

With Thailand Elite you buy a service (500,000 to 2 million depending on the length of your membership), and you get a very convenient long term visa.

But if you work on such a visa without a work permit you still break the law and, eventually, will be caught.

With MM2H, you don't buy a service. You basically bring the equivalent of 5 million baht in Malaysia, and this gives you the right to receive a long term visa.

On such a visa all money you make abroad and bring into Malaysia is not taxable.

There are more details, of course.

But, to me, the MM2H is a more suitable program for your case.

Thailand is a beautiful Country but in the OPs situation unless he has an 'emotional' reason to stay in Thailand I agree that MM2H is the better option. Some pros for Malaysia include language ease, the ability to own landed property using part of your eligibility funds etc. There are some very Expat friendly, liveable localities including Mallaca, Langkawi and Kota Kinabalu.

  7. I visited the Lop Buri Immigration Office today for a Tourist Visa 30 Day extension.... first time I've ever had the need to do so.

The Office was eventually easy to find, exactly as marked on Google Maps, I initially got confused because of some old posts on TV, which referred to right behind the Police Station with some erroneous Google map bookmarks.

Very friendly service, I was initially served within 2 minutes though the whole event 'go to woe' took about 2 hrs partly due to about 20 customers, the Extension being handled by a single desk that covered all types of Visa Extensions, and a power outage.

News for me when I was informed that because I was staying in a friend's house they would have to lodge a 'Foreign Stay Report' which the Police may well follow up on with a 2000 baht fine for non compliance. I volunteered to change the Address on the Form to my own Apt in Pattaya but was told if I did so I would have to do the Visa extension down there.

All in all only minor hassles, I happily endorse the other positive posts on this Office.
