  1. Why is there a recent need for giant pick-up trucks in Thailand. Is it only Thailand?I was sitting outside Tesco Khon Kaen yesterday waiting for the wife and averaged about 70% pick-ups! Fair enough, if you are buying a lot of groceries. Even on the main Mittraphap highway home there were hundreds. The new thing for some is those giant things where the driver is ten feet in the air with 4 wheel drive. I have a Mazda 626 and these guys make me feel as if they would drive right over me.

Who needs a 3.0 Litre engine? Most of these guys go speeding up to the traffic lights, overtaking on the way, what ever has happened to the Isarn , "mai dtong(no hurry) reep", or I should say "bo dtong(no hurry) fao" attitude?

Is it because these guys are not very tall themselves and it is a macho thing? :D

Come on be honest, how many guys are under 6 feet and own an oversized car?

Actually I have noticed that a lot of the guys in the really big ones are short.

These cars in my opinion are dangerous on the country roads, they speed which is a worry for me with a toddler running about.

In Bangkok, it is plain stupidity! An ego boosting thing.

Some guys I know say they live up-country so they have a giant pick-up - <deleted>, they only ever use good roads, in fact they usually go long distance and some even say to get the golf clubs in the back, yeah, you are coming to the golf course by yourself, stick them in the back seat. On Narrow roads too when you have two of these tank-like things passing it is a real hassle, no room for cyclists etc.

I live up country and a normal car is good enough for me.

:D Woopy do we are happy for you. So everyone has to do what you do to get your approval then.

    You a commy?? :o

  2. Sounds like Mr Flummoxed had a he11 of a night!!!!

At the end of the day if you have an iota of doubt then ditch out and if you had no doubts then you wouldn't be posting here.

As others have said there are plenty of fish in the Thai sea.

    Go for it.

Not quite correct, the majority like you post here because you have no life you sad old fart.

  3. :o:D

Beach Road, which one is that then???? Cha Am Beach Road you could buy a Guesthouse for 1000 baht as no-one stays, except no-hopers and cheap charlie's.

I believe Kiwiace is talking about Hua Hin, try "Top Marks" its in the centre and approx 1 year old. Feb is a busy time so please book to avoid problems.

    :D:D

  4. :D

Please look for yourself, many sites under construction. Obviously some people have an interest in certain sites so look yourself.

The Tesco Lotus and Bowling complex has been talked about for sometime, may or maynot happen.

Hua Hin is definetly growing rapidly, some would say too quickly, but is better than most.

    :o

  5. Don't make the mistake of thinking that Thailand has some conveyor belt of Stepford wives, ready and willing to provide you with a family.

Any successful relationship you have with a Thai woman is going to be more demanding and need more work than with a woman from your own culture.

How would you know, you buy yours. Look at the last one, you went of working to return to find your live in at your Little Bungy with her husband.

Now you have a live in that was sent down from the country, obviously working in a 7/11 and fell madly in love with you, how much??????

    Sad :o:D:D

  6. <font color='#000000'>It's mostly students (girls and boys) who hold hands and hang off the other's shoulders. I've never seen a middle-aged pair do that.

Good girls won't hold a farang's hand in public though.</font>

:D Its because the majority are ashamed to be seen with the ugly old farang, they have one because thet cannot get a Thai because they are hookers.

    :o:D:D

  7. Whilw you're in Cha Am, if you check out the Paradise Bar at the Northern end of the Beach Road (especially on a Monday when they have darts night) I'm sure you'll find plenty of people willing to answer any questions you may have there.

    Enjoy!

    Thanks should be fun exploring

Wont take you long, same as the British Legion back home, full of old farts.

  8. Well what is it? Maybe it's a huge footy-head in Pat Pong with a love-struck smile with his arm around a lady boy or a back packer arguing over 2 bt on Khao Sarn Rd etc...

You've all been here for a while, so what have you seen that makes you cringe and hang your head in shame or have just had to laugh at?

Sukhumvit "couples", showing (mostly one sided) affection while on the SkyTrain.

A farang taking his bar fine to the Cabbage & Condoms restaurant, or Marriott or LandMark hotel breakfast, believing she is feeling great there.

Or, to sum it up: a fully tatooed overweight farang doing both of the above.

:D About it, stupid farrang who thinks the prostitute he is with is something to be proud of. :o

  9. This poll more concentrated on places that attract tourist, because

i am trying to target toursit in future.  I have also leaved out bangkok

i am quite fimilier with this city. The downside about BKK is nothing to

do day time, except to work, and not much differs from some other

part of the worlds in some aspects.

Important criteria to look for is:

Healthy living, low cost of living, friendliness toward forigners,

    business oppourtunities, good facilities/infrutrcture.

Quite fascinating, I personally could never live in BKK.

FRIENDLINESS TOWARD FORIEGNERS IS INTERSETING AND DESERVES ITS OWN POLL.

    :o

  10. "........while we look for a house to purchase, need serious advice on reputable banks and also the best way or the best peopleto talk to about buying property, whether to lease or not etc would be grateful for any comments............."

I'd suggest renting for at least 3-4 months first...........possible permanently.

Get a real good feel for the place before you consider buying anything.

Seek advice from as many folks and businesses as you can.

Always get a 2nd (and probably a 3rd) opinion on everything.

Remember that almost everyone here gets a commission on anything they recommend, so they don't always have your best interests in mind.

Also double and triple check anything anyone promises you........consumer rights don't exist here as they do Down Under.

Buying (particularly a house) can be a hassle for farangs (see elsewhere in this forum).

Rents are so inexpensive that it'll take 15 to 20 years of rent to "pay for" most housing.

Once you get here, you'll meet enough long-timers to gather the proper info.

    Good luck.

This is good advice, its all here.

Its not as bad as you may think, just go to a good Estate Agent, Manora or Skandi or Asia Prop Centre and they will be more than helpfull in your purchase.
