  1. after flying with qatar business class 5 times now i feel i have experienced them to the full

i agree that the 777 is a good business class with the flat beds but the older aircraft and beds are dated and not so comfortable

the lounge in doha is ok nothing amazing and emirates longe is much better in dubai

i have had much problems with qatar .. last year they damaged my suitcase and lost property but refused to admit fault and i lost 8000 pounds worth of clothes and watches

there customer service is dreadful but then which airline had a good customer relationship unless your offering to spend more money

.. in this time i have never been offered any upgrade or anything even with my miles

Well it's all a matter of personal preferences I believe.

I didn't like the Emirates lounge in Dubai, and can tell you horror stories of their security staff.

Dubai and Emirates never again. I did however enjoy their lounge in Bangkok.

    Yermanee wai.gif

I also dislike the so called lounge in Dubai it is terrible - what problems did you have with security? I fly Emirates a fair bit and was recently Business in the A380 and have to say I enjoyed it - but.... not to be picky but the fittings / trim etc seemed very flimsy and I doubt it will stand up well in the years to come.

  2. Instead of opening a new thread just gonna ask here.

Has anyone recently flown with BA to the UK, if so, what were your impressions?

I have looked on airlinequality, but no real input from people who travelled the route BKK - LHR.

    Thanks for any info.

I have not flown from BKK to London, but have done the philadelphia - LHR route. Can honestly say that the BA in British Airways should stand for Bloo*y Awful. I have flown numerous airlines and the attitude of the cabin crew on my return jourmey was awful. Will never fly with them again and would advise anyone else to do the same. They are overpriced, underated and lack customer care. Never again. When flying East to BKK, I will ALWAYS use an Arab Airline, Emirates, Oman, Etihad. Customer care is 100% better than BA.

I agree totally I hate BA, they suck and customer service is appalling I send their loyalty card back to them and told them to ram it - I would rather pay more than patronize these <deleted>

  3. Everyone has thier reason to dislike smoking, my father will not see this coming christmas because of ciggarettes, his legs are dark purple almost black, covered with what looks like scales and he stinks like death but he still smokes and loves his benson and hedges special filter.

This coming 10th of March will make a year for me without smokes, I used to love smoking but with my future right in front of me what could I do. I wouldn't argue with a smoker about it, I just smile and think this and that.

I can easily understand the attitude of the smokers who have contributed to this thread but at the same time I just can't.

Keep smoking your cigarettes, one day you will not be in a position where you can ignore the facts.

Sorry to hear about your Father's problem. I like your post it at least has some sense in it, I am a non smoker and do not mind people smoking in a bar, I have always thought it is their leisure time and they can smoke if they want - I hate the smell and try to keep upwind if possible. I feel people should be able to smoke in a bar but also think the owner has a duty to try to keep the air quality as good as possible with decent ventilation and perhaps fans etc.

I must admit though I wont put up with smoking in a restaurant - I think its pretty bad manners in that case, having said that it does not happen much but on the odd occasion it does I leave - easy!

  4. wink.gif, i'm gonna visit chiang mai with my boyfriend next month, any suggestion for an interest places to go or thing to do there? smile.gif

There is so much there to see it's difficult to say,

    1) Doi Suthep ( Important temple on the mountain)

    2) Old City, within the ruined walls - no need for a guide just walk and explore it's fantastic.

    3) Night Bazzar - a bit touristy but worth a look ( I have just realised I cannot spell bazzar!)

    4) (no experience) Flight of the gibbon - never heard a bad report but have not done it yet.

    5) Muay Thai - in Loi Kroi Road and Moon Muang road - I think the later is the real deal

    6) Bars & clubs - if you are youngish Nimmahinan road - if a little bit older Loi Kroi road.

thats a starter for you.... tons more when you arrive! have fun

  5. Why don't you read the facts before posting?

I have a simple explaination for that...the link didn't take me to the article and I couldn't see a link to the article on the main page so I just commented on the original post.

Edit : I don't believe for one minute the bar owner just handed over the money without some major problems.

The facts were in the original post...

The girls came back because they were scared of the guys, then the guy came over to the bar to demand their money back. I would assume that he was pretty aggressive when making that demand, and the owner may have just decided to refund before this gets further out of control...

Most importantly is, that the guy came back with his friend to stab two more people, AFTER the bar owner had accompanied the first 2 that were injured to the hospital and filed a police report.

How can people believe they just defended themselves is beyond my comprehension from the information given.

Agreed, it was the two Pikeys who caused it and will now have 10 years or so to reflect on it.

  6. I don't get black dust.. Don't live next to roads or under airplanes though.

    There ya go.

Moral of this story is, get away from the busy roads and the airport.

Can't imagine what this is doing to our lungs. Anyone know what the lung cancer rate is up here?

It seems to be very high, second highest in the country.

    http://www.nci.go.th/File_download/Cancer%20In%20Thailand%20IV/C-II-11.PDF

In Chiang Mai, lung cancer is

the most important site in men and

the second place in women. Cervix

cancer is the leading cancer in

    women. The incidence of cervix

cancer in women is the highest

    amongst the nine registries.

    In Lampang, the profile of

leading cancer in men is similar to

that in Chiang Mai. Lung cancer in

men is even higher than in Chiang

    Mai

    scary read

  7. You know it's not only Thailand, or Asia… try Africa….Anywhere where some people feel the only power they have is saving face, or looking knowledgeable. It's all some people have in this world and the chance to look or be taken as someone knowing more than the person asking the question. In Thailand it's ingrained on the Thai way of thinking. Look at the education system…..It tells everyoneThai that they are the dogs dangly bits, but does nothing to educate them. Here in Thailand not to know something is a sign of weakness, so, in most cases any old BS will work as calling someone out on their crap is bad form, and not the Thai way…….And the show rolls on. The funny thing is they know they are bull shitters, my GF does it when I ask a question and she doesn't know the answer……..Very funny, I just look at her and smile, she will just keep digging deeper, even knowing I've found her out…Poor girl……I will push it, so now she's learnt not to try with the BS answers. She has said a few times now, "I don't know" and laughs, but I think it hurts her a little to go against an accepted line of BS!

Agreed, My GF is from Bangkok and I have spend a lot of time in Chiang Mai over maybe the last 6 years, recently I bought a place there and was up checking on the building progress. GF decided to fly up for a visit which was great.

She had never been before but within a day was telling me where to go what we should do etc - quite funny as She had no idea where She was.

I just do not think it is Thai nor perhaps Asian culture to say "I don't know"

  8. I think that the Chiang Mai forum should have a sub area for all food enquiries.

Am I the only that gets sick of food threads?

Pizza has been done to death. Search function.

As for Lamb, occassionally Holiday inn buffet has roast lamb and it is ok. If I remember right Coq de Or, has a good lamb.

    Why read the post then?

  9. I saw a new shop in The Avenue Mall... The name is fairprint.org. Maybe they can do the job. My suggestion would be for you to get there quick before they (like so many shops before them in that complex) close down.

    Will take a look, thanks
