  1. I have been helped on a number of occasions by the boys in brown to get a taxi when it was raining and none would stop. All I did was ask where I could I get a taxi to stop. Even then a few just sped away, but eventually I did secure a taxi thanks to their help. I think it is a situation of how one presents themselves here. And I have yet to have any issues with them. In fact any time there was something amiss, they were helpful.

  2. Because most things in life work on cycles and although the exact dates are difficult to say, we have been heading in a particular direction of a cycle for some time and I do not see it turning around until we have hit bottom and it will be much more painful before that happens. Recent major news headlines are a very clear clue to what is at stake and which direction we are presently heading in. You can look for clues in simple things all around you or in international news quite readily. The thing is you need to teach yourself to read between the lines. Take past precedences and go from there.

  3. One should be very wary about disclosing anything about oneself. They are sussing out clues to the potential. Talk of money or property will illicit a bulls-eye. There are some very shady and very desperate people here who are scouting out prospective clients for cleansing. The cast of characters is large and all encompassing to include everyone from your friendly expat, the many foreigners, the pretty girls and the locals. Do yourself a favor. Be aware. If you keep seeing particular fellows out and about more than once, then you are being targeted. If you see many of them then you are the prime target.

  4. Although many people here have been hardened to feel a particular way towards the boys in tight brown, the recent upgrade in police checks can only be a positive considering the crime that has been festering among foreign criminal gangs. I for one do not mind being asked questions by the boys in tight brown if they can minimize the parasitic pestilence that has been seeping into the city at an alarming rate.

  5. The fact is clear: a very large number of expats feel precisely like I do, especially those who are not Russian and have been here (at least off and on) for several decades.

I've been here several decades, and I don't feel the same way as you do, not precisely and not even close. I don't wear rose colored glasses but then neither do I wear poo-colored glasses, looking at everything as if its crap.

It is what is is for everyone. I can relate to both of you. I like it for what it is yet at the same time I know what it is.

The fact that there is more crime and people with money are being targeted by gangs makes me not want to be there. Yet at the same time there are many good people there who make the country what it is. It is unfortunate what has just happened and what will continue to happen in the near and distant future. What I mean is, the economy will continue to get worse, and will only make the conditions worse after the recent floods. It will be difficult to get through the next period for many people and unless the government really steps up to help the people, there can only be a slow progression to what is happening around the world.
