  1. The title is extremely offensive and typical of the mentality about foreigners in Thailand or in most part of the world to that matter. The Day people will stop looking down on others because they don't look like them, they don't speak like them or don't act like them, we will have make a giant step for mankind.

in 1967 it was true that, "The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just." (MLK). Nowdays, The Dunning Kruger effect is so prevalent that it no longer a question of western arrogance. It has become universal.

  2. The App seems to be no longer available on the Thai Store. I can find the itunes link in google but it says the apps is not avail in Thai Stor on my ipad.

Would that mean that CHT has succeded in blocking Apple from offering the app? Anyone can confirm?

I'd like to know where is the App getting the live feed from. Certainly not from CHT or they are really crap with their IT security :)

  3. Is there any proof the rice actually exists other than figures in the accounts. ?

Seems like what this Governor is trying to say when he mention corruption instead of thief. I have heard about this scheme to one of the various one used for becoming a millionaire over night with the rice pledging scheme. An other one being to buy large amount of rice overseas at lower price and gobbling the difference.

The EU had a similar scandal couple of years ago with Carbon Tax and the associated VAT. Much more brilliant than the Rice scheme as there was no actual good exchanged :)

  4. After a little googling I noticed this professor seems to not only be legit but he has been publishing quite a bit.

Will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume extremely poor reporting from The Nation or that the Thai lottery works in a real funny way.

Wanted to drop him an email to ask his take on The Nation's article but could not find an email address. I did some lecturing over the years both at Chula and Tammasat and the professors I mingled with were smart enough not to make such ridiculous comments.

Last option is that someone has enormous (financial) interest in moving the lottery to an automated system and this is only chapter 1 to a good PR campaign :)

  5. What pile of crap is this? I do not know for sure how the lottery system works in thailand but if the same number of unique digits are pulled randomly from a ballot each time then each draw has the exact same statistical probabilities.

You could drawing 66 ten times in a row and there will be nothing strange about it.

Using a dice as an example (six faces), drawing 10 times an ace (number 1) throwing 10 times the same dice is as probable as any other series of number.

If this professor is arguing such basic probability theory then I worry for his students.

I'd love to ask this guy about his take on the Monty Hall problem... Lol

No wonder Thailand is one of the only country in the world that has not won a Nobel Price ! I wonder if someone has even been nominated ever.

  6. Unfortunately, these practices are common across all government officials world wide. Last year, at the G20 in Cannes, President Sarkosy from France spent over 30,000 Euros a night for "the Presidential Suite at the five-star Majestic Hotel". There are some more details here if you are interested: http://is.gd/bxDLTD

What is interesting in this article from the Nation is the fact that Journalists had access to such details about upcoming trips. The key question being, who would benefit from getting this into the public domain?

  7. why did he need google maps? does he not have a pair of eyes just to walk around.

It clearly makes the whole scam a lot more high tech and romantic with google map init?

Still I wonder how this scam works as the PIN used to withdraw cash is unique to the Credit Card number and checked against a database for each transaction (at least that's how I see it).

I was watching a shitty movie this week called "The Rise & Fall of a White Collar Hooligan" which deals with this exact same scam (apparently from a True Story) and I was in the impression that these guys wer eable to collect PIN codes with fake Credit Card Point of Sales which they swaped from time to time at various location wher ethey have accomplice.

If there is a way to create a fake credit card with the PIN code alongside. I certainly would like to know how (from a pure technical curiosity standpoint obviously).

  8. LG blaming Samsung... could it be more ridiculous.?

Are they saying that "wifi Direct" was used for "beaming" the picture to the TV screen? What are they actually talking about? The "LGTV Remote" App does only provides basic features control (Volume, channel change...) & what is this password crap?

Gotta love the fact that if you are a technician then you will face disciplinary punishment while a panel is meeting to discuss a controversy with regards to MP Nutt conduct.

  9. The fact that there might have been worse misconduct in Parliement is no escuse for not going thru a proper investigation of this issue and penalize the culprit accordingly.

The fact that some MPs are suggesting that the phone might have interfere with the closed circuit video system is ridiculous. Not only these people are incompetent to make such claim but it worries me that people in power have such poor understanding of basic technology. I hope these are not the same selecting the specifications for the kid's tablets.

  10. According to (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_motor_vehicle_deaths_in_Thailand_by_year) there was about 12000 people who died from road accident in 2007 which is about 33 per day.

I have no idea what is the current figure but it appears that that number was decreasing 5% per years from 2005. Assuming this trend was sustained, there should be less than 10,000 death a year as of 2012 or about 27 per day.

Aiming for 0 during the most critical period of the year is obviously not realistic.

Songkran seems to increase the death tool by about 40%.

Concentrating the prevention efforts towards the other 360 days of the year might actually be a much more efficient policy although it is a much less visible/populist action and it would certainly cost much more.

There is always a trade off in politics between doing-good and looking-good.

  11. Could someone help me out finding a good place in bangkok to have custom made speaker made?

I am looking at a place that would have experience doing this and i am guessing ban mor is the right place but i would like to get some expert advice.

I would also appreciate if someone who has done it in the past could share his experience as well as the price level for a decent pair of custom made speakers.

    Thks.
