  1. When I obtained my 2 year 'temporary' car and motorcycle licences, earlier this year, I provided a declaration from my embassy as 'proof' of my address in Thailand.

Is this not also acceptable for the 5 year licences? Or, are there different criteria?

2 year???? is this a new thing or??? Thought it still was 1 year and than 5 years..

    Glegolo

Seems he means one car and one motorcycle licence makes in total two.

  2. No that's for immigrants from Burma, Laos, etc

I just tried to do the onlinereport but it didn't work for me.

Maybe because i have a new passport on which i not yet exit or entered the country.

Up to the post office , 35 bath for registered mail.

It's 37 baht for EMS (registered mail) and 3 baht for the return envelope.

  3. I'm an Aussie and I qualify for a retirement visa in Thailand, but I don't want to go through all the rubbish to get one I'd like to make regular visits to Thailand several times a year as I have been doing, go home when it suits me and go to and from Aus as it suits me. It quite cheap to fly to Thailand from Perth on low cost airlines.

I have just passed through Malaysia to get to Chiang Mia. The KL immigration gave me a without asking a 90 day tourist visa, no arrival card was required, immigration did not ask me how long I was staying, the lady was very pleasant and suggested I change my ticket to continue my journey to Chiang Mia after staying a week or 2 in Malaysia and enjoy myself.

What a difference to Thailand to getting a 60 day tourist visa ($45) + renewal option for 30 days at a cost of about $60, and putting up with all the rubbish that goes with this. Like me forgetting to include a photocopy of the passport in with my postal visa application to the Perth Consul only to have it all returned as Thai regulations insist that I have to supply the photocopy even though they admitted they had a photocopier in the office next to the phone they were using, regulations forbid them to make a copy for the applicant, and even though I offered to send $20 to them to compensate them for the trouble of coping the passport. I also had to include a copy of the airline ticket showing that I would be departing within the 60 day period regardless if I intended to extend my visa using the 30 day extension. If I extend my visa to stay the 90 days I'll just have to throw this return ticket away as no refunds are available on low cost airlines.

Thailand has suddenly gone overboard to make sure regular visitors are as uncomfortable as possible. No wonder the owners at the little hotel I'm staying at are concerned. The turnover in the last 6 months is down about 25%

Actually there is no such thing as "retirement visa" what you mean is the extention of stay based on retirement.

But let's not split hairs here.

I really hope the tourist number gets as low as zero. Maybe the time comes that the government et. al. realize what they realy have. The expats. They are the real revenue bringers over time. It is much easier to keep a current customer (exparts) than to generate new (tourist) ones.

    Just my 2 Satang.

  4. As someone from the UK who understands the value of data protection and having worked in an industry where this kind of approach to data protection could get you sacked or worse (is it a criminal offence in the EU?), I was very worried when I first went to immigration last month and the very first time this happened to me and I received a copy of someone else's passport. Probably enough information to give me a good start in stealing their identity.
I wonder if the solution is to obfuscate the back side of all pages before printing the copies required. Have a look at the attached PDFs. The first is quite "in your face" and maybe a bit overkill, but the second one, do you think immigration would object to copies with this printed on the back?
Would appreciate it if someone in the know would comment and if anyone tries this what reaction they got from immigration?
    Thanks

Last week I did my 90 days reporting for the first time by mail. Everything O.K. so far.

On the back of the confirmation slip was an ED visa of a Chinese guy!!

Following this thread quite a while I decided to pretent the use of the back of my copies. Simple.

Ariel Narrow 7pts. "LONGLIVETHEKINGLONGLIVE....." printed in grey all over the back like the micro print on bank notes. Well not that small......

Can they reject such a message?

  5. @OP

Then I check in. I had pre booked an aisle seat online as I am very tall. When she printed my boarding pass, out pops a completely different seat next to a window! My very polite request for an aisle seat, indeed the one I had booked was met with a sullen look, and an attitude that suggested I was disturbing her!

You cannot pre-asign seats on TG domestic flights

  6. Most businesses know it is much easier/cheaper to retain current customers than interest new ones, So I would

suggest the TAT make it easier and better for there best long term tourists, ex-pats. They spent the most, stay through

low season and political turmoil. Of course try to interest new ones but don't forget about your existing ones.

Focus on the bird in hand not so much about the two in the bush.

They have the Quality Tourists right in front their eyes and ignore them. The exparts. Over a year each of them equals 43 Q.Ts. (8.5 day average).

We had this discussion many times already: Pamper what you already have. Make the immigration fuzz as easy as possible and don't forget: VAT is the largest tax resource in this country and exparts pay the most of it.

Get rid of the TAT b/s and all the other tourist-what ever-offices.

And yes, I hate the "official" Thailand. It is just a big hooker house with dirty beaches, filthy bars, overpriced restaurants and double priced "attractions". Most Thais are rude and lack any respect and manners.

    BUT:

There is also the "real" Thailand. Mostly not seen by the tourist. That is a total different cup of tea. Life is cheap and easy. People are mostly honest and you can get along pretty well.

  7. Thought Thai Visa folks would be interested in this dilemma:
at 0002 I waited for a fresh batch of openings on day 100
    for my retirement extension.
I filled out the form and sent it and it kept coming back
to resubmit the security code. After submitting three times
differrent codes, and triple checking the codes,
it still would not accept the info.
I then did a page refresh to start all over again from scratch,
just glad to see openings this time, and then when the site
refreshed the page, all openings were taken. Reserved on all slots.
I almost fell out of my chair. I am going to have my wife
call Immigration tomorrow, since she stayed up with me and
saw it happen, and see what is going on with the online que system.

Will let you know what we find out

Had a similar experience a while ago.

Well, yes my favorite spot was taken than but I got an alternative.

    What I learnt from this:

A couple of seconds before midnight refresh your screen so you have a clear start at 00:00:01.

  8. Our Visa card is issued......

    OUR visa card?

    Not in this world!

It's either your card, your husband's card or you have two of them. Basic and supplementary card.

(I am very picky on this because the use of a card by another person is FRAUD! It doesn't matter if it's hubby's card. In this case anything but cancellation of the card and the membership is the only way to go. So don't complain you cannot use "your" card.)

  9. Was hoping the OP referred to airfares OUT OF BKK! But these fares are still substantially higher to for instance Europe than from Europe to BKK. Dont know why but there seems a difference of 25% and more (from BKK to Europe than viceversa. Don't quite understand why...

Yeap. Yield management. It all depends on the outbound market. In short: "Take as much as you can get". Most Thais have no chance to fly internationally anyway. The few ones that can are very rich and then there is a group with sponsers.

Further more prices Thailand-Europe are going up pretty much. Used to pay for BKK-CMB-FRA v.v. on SriLankan Business 59xxx THB. Next year up to 82xxx.

    What a bummer.

  10. All the paper fiat currencies will go down in purchasing power no matter what they will be worth in buying other paper currencies in 10 years.

Best to buy some gold now or if it dips any further. I guarantee you, it will be worth more against all paper currencies in 10 years.

I wonder why I took some many posts until the only option came up.

    In Gold we trust.

Gold is the only long time currency since thousands of years.

Buy only physical gold. Less than 1% of the traded "gold" is gold. The rest is just paper like the fiat currencies.

Within the next 10 years the day will come and ALL fiat currencies will come down including the paper gold.

Good for you if you have some gold bahts.

(It is so easy to buy gold in Thailand anonymously. Almost every shopping center as a gold shop open every day.)

  11. Chiangmai:

    RAM hospital:

h/c parking always blocked by huge SUVs or oversized pickups. They have guards, they don't care.

    Immigration:

h/c parking spot always occupied. They have a guard with a whistle. He only knows two English words: "full" and "go". 'When I confront him that I am h/c and he didn't protect my spot (in Thai) he just turns around and walks away. WHAT A SURPRZIE.

    BigC Extra (former Carrefour):

Six or eight, maybe ten h/c spot in front to the entrance where SCB is. Full. Same same RAM hospital.

And the list goes on and one.

As I side note. I have an offical Thai h/c decal and it seems I am the only one.

  12. So it seems it is a smart move (I hate to say that) from THAI to move one of their two daily flights from Frankfurt to Düsseldorf.

Now as the only attraction Thailand has left it its horizontal entertainment industry, Düsseldorf is the market for potential (whistling.gif ) customers.

The only tricky part is the pricing.thumbsup.gif Doing it right it will not only fill up the flights, but also the bars in Pattaya and Patong.
