So I arrived 8th March Stamp/visa waiver for 30 days - extended late March 30 more days, expired 4th May but Amnesty announced 9th April
Got sick of the uncertainty, booked expensive flexible 1 way ticket out for 31st this month.
Can I just change my flight to September now without having to do anything else ?
-
Doesn't look to hopeful, nearly all flights from Bangkok cancelled today.

The AOT link is not accurate , if you want to see arrivals & departures in real time try Flight Radar , example :CX 654 departed on the 14th at 15:00

Is this just Speculation❓

So they allow illegals to stay there ?
Handy for the people who cannot meet the immigration requirements in Thailand to know ! ????
What's good to know is that if you want to come & go from PH regularly (visa waiver, stamp at the airport) you wont be treated like a criminal - PH deport "illegals" just like anywhere else. Only those tied to TH are compelled to go through the ever increasing immigration requirements / restrictions, jumping through hoops like a trained monkey (or buffalo as Thais call us).
What I have noticed is that those that don't have a choice to move from TH denigrate others who have the flexibility to move & try to present their own situation in TH as superior to anywhere else - good luck with that - you'll need a plan B for when inevitably you become "illegals" yourself in TH & are forced out of the country.
As mentioned Thais Don't Want Us (fly in/out guys at least) - too bad for TH that the money we spend is going elsewhere.

Thanks for this thread ExpatPH - Its not only informative for those wishing to relocate TH > PH but also to F.I.F.O. Oil/Gas/Mining guys like me & one other poster on here who have had enough of being treated like criminals at the airport in Thailand - being pulled aside at Swampy & grilled over income F.F.S. ,too many stamp on arrivals/Visa waiver" why you come here so often ?" - I was renting high end accommodation & spending large amounts of money ( happily :-)
& in my case I wasted time & money in Australia getting an METV which because of my uneven rotation was not of much use anyway & only seemed to increase scrutiny & make things more complicated - they don't really want free spending oil field workers coming to Thailand on R&R any more & the ever increasing cost of R&R in TH as opposed to PH means that for me at least Philippines is a better place to go - other of my colleagues & I can easily afford the increased cost of R&R in TH but combined with visa issues & perceived feeling of not being welcome prompted to start taking R&R in Philippines for the last year - I'm coming back to Pattaya for the last time next month & selling up. At least I shouldn't get grilled at Swampy.
I have a good knowledge of PH after having worked there & holidayed there many times over the years - started coming to Thailand in better days when we were welcome - I'm certainly not a TH hater - but sorry I don't feel the same way about Thai "hospitality" anymore.
For me apart form the ease of just flying in & out of PH with out worrying if I'm going to be denied entry (or worse) there are other attractions - OK the women, cheaper for carousing on R&R - I'm a bit of a Foodie & the local food that is so often dismissed as rubbish/unhealthy,,,,,,,,, well I disagree - sure not as much variety/quality as Thailand but if you know what to order "Native" food can be really amazing
- Best sucking pig rotisserie in the world ( Anthony Bourdain)
- Great "drinking" food = pulutan - (Klab Klem in Thailand) - Sizzling Sisig: surprisingly good, pork pieces with spice ( mainly from the head) & every other kind of crispy pork dish imaginable : Chichron,Crispy pata Dilis = dried fish etc
- Really good healthy food is available all over - fruits good , vegetables not as much variety & to be honest some local food is an acquired taste; Baguoong fermented fish seasoning its similar to Thai with out the chilli - used in vegetable dishes like Pinakbet & with mango - Patis = Nam Plaa used a lot too.
- Sinigang : soup with lots of vegetables soured with tamarind
- Personal favourite Daing Bangus is a boneless milk fish ( a type of farmed mullet I think) crispy with garlic rice and a runny egg, good for breakfast
- A well cooked chicken or pork Adobo is a really tasty fusion of Asian & Spanish flavours.
There are many more tasty native foods , what I have seen is that their foreign food restaurants are not as good as in Thailand - its OK for me as I go native anyway when I'm there. Beer much better & cheaper by 20/30% or more - hotels used to be better value in TH - not so any more , at least for us Aussies.
I actually like that edgy Mexican border town felling the you get in many parts of Manila & elsewhere but the dangers of being held up, caught in the cross fire etc are real & greater than in TH - the poverty can be really depressing.
The music - especially live is soooooo much better in PH
I did not meet many expats in Thailand,or Pattaya at least who I could get on with - sorry to say that it full of Falung naysayers & complainers - in this regard, for me at least the expats in PH seem like a more relaxed mob, happy to see out their days in PH & accepting of all its frustrations as a trade of for a higher quality of life than in their home countries & rotational guys like me can have a quality R&R shared with like minded guys if that's what you want.
Finally the beaches/islands in PH are just fantastic as compared to Thailand, & what really makes a big difference is the much fewer number tourists who come to PH, 6 or 8 million I think as opposed to 38 million last year in Thailand.
Just a few of my thoughts on this well discussed topic.
Happy holidays R&R.

Tok Lae Dee ( good & cheap) basement Foodland Pattaya Beach Rd.24Hrs.
69 Baht breakfast before 09:00 -75 Baht after
.
Good cheap Thai food , Red Pork & Dumpling Soup with lots of greens - a standout.
Open kitchen is a feature I like - if you get a seat nearest the kitchen you can watch your food being cooked.

I don't think 2 weeks will be long enough to get it done. It takes that long to get the visa and 90 day entry stamp after doing the application.
There is no 90 day limit for visa exempt entries (not a VOA). Have you gotten a 30 day extension for your current entry.I need the visa - too many stamps on arrival, need the O visa first ( I think)
I have stayed longer than 90 in the last 6 months. - but will try again end of this month V.O.A. and get the retirement extension ( if that's what its called)
You need at least 15 days remaining on your entry or the 30 day extension to apply for a non immigrant visa at immigration.
Rather than getting another visa exempt entry it might be best to make a trip to Vientiane for a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or over. The will accept a income letter for proof of income.
Thanks again Ubonjoe -
The thing is as I work in PNG & fly to BKK I need to use the Embassy in BKK to get the proof of income letter, on my way to Jomtien
I would try and get the ball rolling on the extension 30/05/16 - is two weeks enough time to get this done ? departing 13 0r 14th June ? - sorry a bit off topic
What country are your from?
Your best option may be to go to Vientiane and get the single entry non-o visa and then get a re-entry permit to keep the 90 day entry valid when you enter from your trip.. Then apply for the extension when you return.
How long will you be out of the country when you make your trip out of the country.
NZ Citizen - in PNG now - could travel through Vientiane I guess - will have to read up on the requirements for single entry non-O - 6 weeks out of county again after 13th of June.

I have seen no report of it being required at Jomtien to get an extension of stay (is not a visa).
The only reports I have seen is for the Nonthaburi immigration office which is known to come up with some strange requirements.
What is the source of the info you posted?
Thanks Joe - Pattaya expats Club - hopefully attached hereabouts.

Please - does anybody know if the letter from home countries Embassy certifying income ( more than 65K) needs to be stamped by Department of Consular affairs ?
I have read elsewhere that it does :
f using your Embassy Letter certifying income, it will need to have a stamp from the Department of Consular Affairs, which is located in Bangkok (this is a new requirement reported as of the end of March 2016 – you may wish to check with Pattaya Immigration to see if it still being required before making a trip to Bangkok to get it). For more information on the requirement, click here and select from "Extension for the Purpose of Retirement or Being the Spouse of the Retiree" contents, then scroll down to the section on "Process for Obtaining Non-Immigrant "O" Visa and then Extending Your Stay."

TPS sounds like it could be the problem - thanks' very much

^^^^^ First mod on mine was a sprocket change.
The bike has a very short 1st gear.
Many change out the front 15T to a 16T.
I did the rear on mine. 41T down to 39T.
The difference from the first ride is so noticeable.
The rear sprocket I used was from a Honda NC700X (part# 41201-MGS-D70)
Available from any of the Big wing dealers @ about 1400 Baht.
Thanks for that too - I will see if Big Wing will do same for me.

Thanks Briggsy - I am an experienced rider and have ridden a number of larger bikes - this one is not as smooth as its supposed to be - I nurse it to the extent of riding the clutch at slow speed (bad I know) to avoid the jerky ride - very frustrating.
Could it be a fuel - mapping- issue I wonder ? - chain does seem tight enough & brand new - it's a little hard to check adjust without a centre stand.
-
I bought the 2016 model CB500X - its hard to ride low speed 1st & second gear , drive train lash, jerky on off throttle.
900KMs now maybe first service at 1K will solve the problem
Chain tension seems to be OK - any ideas anyone ?

Arrived this morning & went through the premium lane - I.O. secrutinised all the 8 stamps for this year in the passport & asked how long I stay in Thailand this time. I showed him my E ticket , departure date 11/10/15 - no problem.
I thought I may as well ask if I needed a visa - he said that since I was not staying in excess of 30 days No Need,,,,,,,,,,,,,

If you are working in PNG you have no chance of getting a visa. I worked over there and used the visa exempt every 6 weeks during my rotation. I was asked a couple oof questions once by Immigration but I showed him my work permit for PNG and he was satisfied. Where abouts are you working? I was up in the highlands
Onshore rig ,Moran/Manunda/Iagifu ,at Kutubu, Southern Highlands, P.N.G. - NOT a very nice place hence R&R in Thailand as often as possible.
-
I am familiar with the requirements for getting a retirement/extension/visa, I have a print out which was given to me at Jomtien Immigration.
Just have to go to my embassy to get the letter confirming income, ( Stat Dec.) - have all the bank statements, tax declarations ,letter from my landlord, etc etc etc
I have a BKK Bank account (was real easy to get on visa waiver, showed them my P.N.G. drivers licence hahaha) - handy but not needed for what I am planning in any case
The documents will be useful if/when I am questioned on Thursday.
-
Thanks so much again for your prompt & useful advice - I will be sure to post here again should there be any problems ( or not) on Thursday 17/09/15 when I come back to Thailand.

I work oil and gas on a part time on call roster. Last R&R in Thailand I took a 4 day trip to Philippines and on return to SVP was questioned by the I.O.I was asked if I was working in Thailand ( I’m not ) she seemed to be saying the I have exceeded 6 visa waiver on arrival stamps and stayed for more that 10 days each time which is true. ‘You must get visa” she said “my computer tell me “
I’m over 50 & would qualify for a retirement visa I think, but I’m working?!
I cannot get tourist visas where I work or waste whole pages in my passport getting T.V.s as I have been coming to Thailand in excess of 6 or 7 times every year.
I must be flagged in the Thai computer. If the immigration people are satisfied that I am not working or involved in any criminal activity do you think the flag could be removed?
I’m flying Brisbane,Singapore,Bangkok, If I am denied entry would they send me back to Singapore, all the way to Brisbane or make me go back to the country of my passport
Should I take R&R in another more accommodating country or risk another stamped entry to Thailand armed with bank statements, cash, working visa (P.N.G.) contract return ticket?
