  1. AARG! THE PLANET'S BURNING — CULL THE COWS AND RUN FROM THE MONKEY POX! Some argue that a high percentage of illegal migrants are climate refugees. And if they're running from "global warming" they could find themselves freezing to death in the UK, like so many of the poorer pensioners do each year. Yet, everyone keeps banging on about how the earth is on fire. It's not! It's another fear tactic used by the global elite to push yet more draconian laws to control the ant farm (that's us, by the way). But did you know that every year, the cold kills almost ten times as many people as heat? [1][2] Surely, the British people are right to have serious concerns. I mean, why would anyone welcome so many "undocumented" young men being put up in hotels and hostels across the length and breadth of a green and pleasant land? Who are they? Where do they really come from? And…. why are they really here? I think what we're seeing is just the start of the anti (Illegal) immigration protests. Let's just hope that the next wave of demonstrations pass off peacefully. 1. https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/interactive/2023/hot-cold-extreme-temperature-deaths/ 2. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lanplh/article/PIIS2542-5196(21)00081-4/fulltext
  2. Thank you, Soomdae. So, it sounds like you can keep trying if you fail, until you pass, which is useful. Someone told me a while back that if you fail, you can't do the test again for another two weeks. It appears they were wrong or misinformed. That would have made it awkward seeing as each residence certificate is only valid for 30 days.
  3. Thanks for all your replies, everyone. It makes sense now. I thought that I was probably needed to download a different app with a different name. @Soondae, I already signed up for that site. I thought there might be an option to practice and watch training videos. It seems not. From what I can see, I have to just do the test, but I was hoping to do a little prep in advance. I'm told there are 500 questions in the database, and you get 50 random questions to answer. I hope it's not too difficult. I mean, it's been a zillion years since I had to sit a test for anything. @alesaldana Thanks for that link. I'll read through the most recent updates later ;) I'll post here on my progress, as it may prove useful for others. Stubby
  4. Hi, Folks. It was suggested to me to download the DLT QR License App, where I can watch the training video at my leisure. Downloading the app is straightforward, yet it's all in Thai. Does anyone know if I need to search for something else (like a different name) to get the English version? Or is that no longer available? Thank you in advance. Stubby
  5. Thank you, Novacova, that's very useful ;) Unfortunately, the app is only in Thai. It's English in Google Play Store, but Thai after download. I'll see if the video is available on the PC.
  6. Hi, Folks, I've just enquired to an agency about the current driving license renewal document requirements. It seems they're the same as five years ago. However, they did say I have to sit a CBT test this time. I've never had to do a test before, so I called a friend who has recently got his first Thai driving license. He said there are 50 random questions and some of them are quite tricky and don't always make a lot of sense. Does anyone know if there is anywhere I can do some mock tests to prepare? Furthermore, how much prep is actually required. Surely, it can't be that difficult with so many new drivers on the road every month? That said, 50 random questions against a ticking clock does sound quite daunting. Stubby
  7. Thanks, Prubangboy, I'll have a gander ;)
  8. Hello, Chiang Mai Expats. I'm most likely going to move in the New Year. I usually go through an agent when looking for properties and will probably do the same this time. Even so, it doesn't hurt to ask local expats for suggestions. I live in a single-story, 3-bed, 2-bath detached house in a moo baan. I've been very happy here for the past few years but fancy a change. Being able to jump between properties and locations is one of the joys of renting. I would prefer to stay in the Hang Dong area, but I could change my mind if the right property comes along elsewhere. If anyone knows of any new-ish developments that I might want to consider, please let me know. My budget is between 12-15,000 THB/Mo. Thanks in advance.
  9. This is just a quick update in case anyone is interested. A helpful member here messaged me and said I should contact Red Ride in Chiang Mai. So I did. The owner, Glen, arranged a car and an English-speaking lady driver for me at short notice. The rate was very reasonable. And the 7-hour round trip was a safe and pleasurable experience. We arrived just before lunch, so there was that awful "Please come back after 2 pm" response, which we used to grab lunch and coffee. The actual process to change the name in the Green Book took less than three minutes, and then we were heading back home. It's been a bizarre experience, but at least it was a scenic trip void of drama. Stubby
  10. Thanks for the tips BMT. I have toyed with the idea of not bothering, but I'd prefer the bike was in my name. Otherwise, I don't legally own it. Not only that, but should I ever get caught on camera for a traffic offence, the fine will be delivered to the address of the previous owner. That's not really fair.
  11. I doubt that, Connda. The girl at the information desk went to confirm her assumption with her superior before informing me of the inconvenience. It is quite an inconvenience, too. But if there's one thing I've learned in Thailand, it's not to let stuff like this eat too far into me.
  12. I know Fang is in Chiang Mai, but I'm sure have seen vehicles displaying Fang plates before, but I could be wrong. Regading the second point, it's possible I suppose. I don't know what's in the sealed envelope, but I'm guessing its details of the bike test pass.
  13. I prepared all the paperwork in advance, VocalNeal. In fact, I had too much as they passed too pages of stuff back saying, "No need." Everything else, it seems, is in order.
  14. That's interesting, Connda. Looking online, I was expecting anywhere from 2,000-4,000 Baht. It's why I decided to ask for experiences/advice in here ;)
  15. Thanks, Yeah Rightio. I went to the Chiang Mai-Lamphun Rd, which is for all things motorcycle. They let me check the bike there. For some reason, I had to sit around for 90 minutes whil they prepared a document for the Fang office (sealed).
  16. Good morning, Chiang Mai. Yesterday, I went to CM Provincial Land Transport Office to change the name on a motorbike I bought. The information desk said I had to go all the way over to the Fang office to do this. I'm confused as the plate says Chiang Mai, not Fang. Anyway, if they say I need to go to Fang, that's what I must do. I was thinking of heading over on the bike, but this month's weather is unpredictable, with a forecast that changes by the hour. I don't fancy being caught up in a violent storm while out on the open road. Instead, I will hire a private driver to take me there and back. I have found a couple of companies online. But if anyone here has any personal recommendations, please let me know. Thank you. Stubby
  17. I don't even know what that means anymore. Each new variant—we're informed—is more transmissible than the last. A while back, I read that measles is one of the most contagious human diseases. And then the "experts" told us a couple of variants ago that COVID had become as infectious as the measles. Yet still, we're told that each new variant is more contagious than the last. My point is this; where's the cap on transmissibility? When will it be so infectious that it can't possibly get any more contagious? These headlines make no sense at all. But I bet my bottom dollar the next headline for the next new variant will also read: WARNING! NEW COVID STRAIN IS X TIMES MORE TRANSMISSIBLE THAN…. Am I the only one who doesn't get it?
  18. If that's true, Lemsta69, that would suggest the fully vaccinated/boosted have now joined the ranks of the unvaccinated. In other words, no one is protected against COVID19 as it currently stands. It's possible, I guess.
  19. I suppose you could have just said I disagree with the bloke in the video? You know what they say, don't you? Anyone who resorts to name-calling has already lost the debate. So based on that logic, I suppose we could also call you a loser as well, right? Would that be a fair assumption?
  20. I'm a regular tipper, but only to low-income workers who are paid from the neck down. I usually give my laundry lady twice what she asks, for slaving over a hot iron smoothing out my clean rags. Heck, I even tip the poor fuel pump attendants. It seems that the OP wants recognition and praise for throwing a few shekels at low-paid menial workers. If that's your reason for tipping, may I suggest you put your hand back in your pocket and stop whining about something you're not obliged to do? It's just a thought.
  21. I think religion gives a lot of comfort to many people, especially those terrified of death. However, non-believers will never win the atheists debate; such is the hardwired mindset of believers. But then, I supposed most of us have hardwired beliefs of some kind, though the majority will be benign. MIND Y' MORALS, PLEASE It doesn't matter which of the remaining gods others believe in... until they try to ram their so-called morals down the throats of those who disagree. The Islamic Council is well within its rights to have an opinion, but does it really need to make headline news? PUT A CAP ON IT, LADS! And as for the only anti-contraception god, well... many poor sods have suffered and died due to the spread of nasty STDs passed around by the more promiscuous theists. It's a fair comment, is it not, albeit a tad controversial. So, c'mon, fellas, put a cap on it, for crying out loud!
  22. True, but then Christianity is based on thousands of years of old teachings, and many Christians refuse to modernize their beliefs, too. Heck, most of the coffin-dodgers I know who got much younger women pregnant were of a particular Christian denomination. But why is that? Well, it has something to do with their god telling them (in a book written by one of 50 some blokes) that the deity disapproves of birth control, and the flock obeys. So when one bashes Islam as some crackpot religion, I suppose the question is... "Compared to what?
  23. Thanks, Charlie. From what I can fathom, PKFB is a pharmaceutical manufacturing company that makes supplements for the "The Nature" brand, though I still can't find anything on the latter. It's also quite possible that I don't know what the heck I'm talking about. That happens quite a lot ;)
  24. Thank you, fvw53, Ithat's useful ;)
  25. The vitamin D3 content is very confusing for the layperson. It reads: Vitamin D3 (100000 IU/g) 1.68 mg. (or 168 IU per capsule). I mean, I take 1000 IU per day in a single tablet. So what 100000 IU/g and 168 IU mean in the same sentence, I have no idea. Maybe there's only a super-low dose of 168 IU contained in the product? If someone's reading here who's switched on to all these measurements, please let us know.
