Article makes zero sense....he acquired Thai citizenship entered into a business only allowed for Thais and that is somehow a criminal violation? OR did he use a fake Thai ID and enter into a business reserved only for Thais? Who wrote this story??

What would you expect from a gov't subsidized program? Having said that I know two Thais who stayed in BKK in quarantine and had no complaints at all.

And no mention of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines being administered to almost 2 Million Americans each day and millions more around the world with 95% efficacy - rather only the Chinese vaccine AND of course the now famous AZ vaccine that has 62-72% efficacy and is not recommended for those under 18 or 65 and over. If Thailand wants to protect its population and get its borders open - it's doing a pretty poor job of this vaccine strategy. Govt has either seriously dropped the ball and has not clue or the non transparent AstraZenica deal is driving this entire program (seems to be both)

It goes beyond motorcycles - the fundamental issue is that accidents - which should be a deterrence and learning experience - are not - and except for accidents there are really no/insufficient consequences for speeding, reckless driving, running red lights, or driving without lights etc etc etc. Thai police uses checkpoints not traffic stops. Education is needed, but proper law enforcement (including traffic stops and real fines for breaking vehicle laws for both scooters, cars and big bikes) are needed. Dream on.

Here is a novel idea for Novel Coronavirus....Thailand approve Moderna and Pfizer, allow private hospitals to buy and distribute to supplement the gov't initiative with the Oxford vaccine, speed up the vaccination program and allow vaccinated travelers to enter without more than a 4 day quarantine and a negative COVID test. Just got back from Mae Hong Son - it is a ghost town like so many other places in Thailand - people are really suffering under the current government approach with no real vaccination effort in sight for months - a novel idea is needed now

Moderna and Pfizer have not applied for approval-? - WHY would that be? So THAT is the reason only the Chinese vaccine and the soon to be locally manufactured Oxford vaccine will be approved. Come on - just let the private hospitals distribute Moderna and/or Pfizer and let's get on with it.

WAY too late. The only way to stop the virus and to get the economy open is to vaccinate - ASAP. The Thai Gov't made a major miscalculation (as it turned out) by thinking COVID could be controlled until the local manufacture of the vaccine by the well connected Thai Pharma company could come up to speed...but COVID had other plans...now the only way to get this nipped in the bud is to buy sufficient vaccine to inoculate the population ASAP.

Let's be honest - Thai Airways has been terribly managed just based on it's service, its prices, age of its fleet, and where it flies to. Privatize it, get international management in and on the board and bring it back to life (eventually after COVID) on par with Eva or Singapore Air. Thai Airways used to be very good years ago - shame but it can't stay the way it is and survive.

To not kill the economy and risk real potential social unrest the restrictions have to be lifted enough to allow people to work and travel within the country. Yes - good chance the numbers will go up but little choice. Common Thai people are asking a lot of questions now under their breath that they previously would not dare ask. Have to open the economy up next month and let people make a living again

Not known for imaginative forward thinking.....but then again why would he be? No leadership just the usual vested interests and noise. Having said that Thailand does have excellent doctors and very good health care in general. Better than many places

While the Thai government cannot control burning in neighboring countries it can control burning in Thailand. Let's start with that.

Once again .....shameful...the responsibility for the control of illegal burning rests solely on the Thai government. It is the government's responsibility to enforce the law for the safety and health of the Thai people. Last year it was horrible - lots of talk, chatter, and once the rains came - all forgotten, problem solved...until this year rolls around and the same issue again. Except this year, the country is hit with not only the air pollution but COVID 19 and the Thai economy will sadly be devastated by a double whammy. I made the decision to invest in Chiang Mai....I am stuck with that decision but honestly, despite loving the place when the air is good, I am having significant second thoughts as it is clear the government is not stepping up to the plate to protect peoples' health.

For those with short memories - back when the 'black prisons' were disclosed, one of whcih being in Thailand and Hambai was arrested in Thailand at the behest of the USA, there was no comment from the Thais...except to admit that they arrested Hambali. But of course that was all an internal US matter on Thai soil.

Sadly I think that this situation, and the fact that the US Dept of State is not stepping up to the plate is very telling. US citizens pay US taxes no matter where in the world they live, they can vote no matter where they live, but the Embassies provide very few services- and none for free. The reality is they CAN provide COVID jabs to US citizens in Thailand if they wanted to. Appointments can be made, identities verified, and shots given on the Embassy/Consulate grounds. Draw the line at US citizens (no one else regardless of family connections). Perhaps the Embassies are worried about demands that non US citizen family members will also demand vaccination? Draw a bright line and get on with it. Biden promised a vaccine shot for EVERY American, he did not say you had to be physically present in the USA. This CAN be done, it WAS done for US Embassy personnel already, and it SHOULD be done for overseas US citizens by the Dept of State ASAP.
