  1. Not this again! They were doing this in Chiang Mai a few years back - 20,000 baht fine each. Everything back to normal now.
  2. I remember seeing lots of 'no Israeli' signs outside guest houses along the Nepali hiking trails. It had nothing to do with religion or policy. The Nepalese felt they were rude, argumentive, and more trouble than their demands for discounts were worth.
  3. Perfectly normal things to take on a 3 am stroll along the beach. I guess next time he will sit nearer to his stuff.
  4. If you live here over 180 days then you are considered a tax resident. There has been lots posted about these rules. Despite this, my answer is still I don't know. Thinking of moving some money over too so watching this space.
  5. What 'tourist' has bullets in his jacket? What you been up to Isa?
  6. I can't comment on this lady and her alleged actions. nor am I a Kindergarten teacher - but I find your comments ignorant. You might be surprised to know that kindergarten teachers are caring, dedicated and professional people who positively shape the development of our children. Granted, not all are good teachers and granted not all come through world standard professional development systems - but don't underestimate the impact on education a good Kindergarten teacher can have shaping these little gremlins!
  7. Was the altercation related to damage to the taxi bike? Or attempted exortion for 'damage'? Whatever, cleavers are not cool.
  8. Give them the family room at the Bangkok Hilton.
  9. I love how avoiding legal proceeding against him is now considered a 'self imposed exile'.
  10. Oh well. Back to the call centre then.
  11. Give him a break - maybe he just got separated from his buddies at the underwear party!
  12. Tip of the iceberg. Hang Dong district seems to be crawling with Chinese call centres. I think that's 3 busts in as many weeks.
  13. 'Pick up trucks with excessive speed losing control' seems to be a standard line in these reports. RIP to the innocents just going about their daily lives.
  14. Kids on big bikes, pick-up trucks - what could go wrong?? RIP young lad.
  15. Motorcycles travelling in the left lane, shifting right across the fast lane to probably make a U-turn - probably accounts for many tragic events here. It's a shame the Thais aren't ready for roundabouts.
  16. Never before has Chinese New Year been a date to look forward to in Thailand for so many....oh wait....pending the completion of their digital payment system.
  17. Got a broken pipe causing big issues. Anybody know a good company to help quickly?? A few Somchais have already failed. Please let me know, the problem isn't getting smaller!
  18. Exit Thailand on the Thai passport, enter Australia on the Australian. Exit Australia on the Australian and enter Thailand back on the Thai passport. Pretty simple, done it many times with my Aus/Thai kids. If you are travelling with the mum, then no problem or need for Ampur stuff. Lots of conflicting info re; need for permission from mum letters. Personally, I have taken my son to Aust without it - and had no problems. If you are worried about it, then cover your bases with a visit to the amphur.
  19. That's a harsh statement given the previous grants and background information. If you read it?
  20. Apparently 2 years in considered enough time to no longer be 'settled' according to the policy interpretation of this visa case manager. It seems the 40+ years I lived in Australia don't mean anything. Yes, this contradicted previous visa applications which were all granted under the 'Sponsored Family Stream'.
  21. So, just to add closure to this whole episode, my wife has now been granted a tourist visa. Hooray! She will join us as a tourist - not as my wife lol
  22. You are right, promo flights are non-refundable so I really do only have another $200 to lose. All the best sir.
  23. Yeah - thanks. It seems more likely I'll be taking the kids by myself. I am not even sure the timeframe before Christmas would allow but I'll look into it. Gutted. There is no appeal avenue that is feasible. Is it really just back luck or is this policy now consistently applied by the Australian Embassy in Bangkok? It must be much more far-reaching than my case.
  24. Thanks for your reply and interest. I have snipped the ruling (nothing personal) for you. In answer to your questions: Yes, this was the only reason for refusal. Our last visit was Christmas 2022 same visa type. She probably wouldn't qualify for a tourist stream having been a non-employed homemaker for the last 15 years. I wouldn't have booked the air tix if I knew they were going to randomly pull out the 'settled' clause. I didn't expect any issues. Thank you again.
