  1. ".... he feared that the European men would spread the virus in the Thai capital ..."

Just like hundreds of thousands of other people are spreading the virus, walking around freely....

Selective quarantine makes only sense in the very beginning of a pandemic, not when it's already full blown.
Right now if you want to stop spreading, you need a general lockdown or a working vaccine.

Anyhow, i don't see the need to stop the spreading, as with omicron we are lucky to have such a mild variant.
It gives us the opportunity to gain natural herd immunity.
Or they wanna wait until we have a more dangerous variant again?

  2. Considering how widespread and infectious omicron is, i don't see how quarantining a select group makes sense.
It's like mobbing with the water tab wide open.
It will not have a noticable effect on stopping the spread.

Also it's already become clear that omicron is nothing more than a rebranded common cold.
    (almost zero ICU patients)

Imho the fearporn and continuing enforced measures around omicron ist just to lengthen the lucrative medical business opportunity that pharma companies, government elites and certain key figures are making use of to fill their pockets.

In my country f.e. it has been know for years that even the regular annual flu vaccine has little to no helpful effect, but that doctors get around 12 dollars/ patient for pushing the vaccine.

  3. "a New Year crackdown by crime suppression to stop the spread of Covid-19 at such places"

Amazing how covid is used as a tool to gradually introduce a system of totalitarianism, not only in Thailand but worldwide.
With the greatest example being vaccine mandates, forced quarantining of people, qr codes, shutting down businesses, restriction of movement/travel,...

No doubt this will artificially be prolonged, as we obviously see with omicron, which usually is as mild as a common cold (almost zero IC patients, and generally few hospital intakes).

With many peoples lives being devastated because of stricts enforcements, i have a hard time believing this is all about protecting the wellbeing of people.

  4. I guess i'll just continue to eat my popcorn, while i watch naïve travellers get humbled by the reality of today:

Governments around the world lock people in a growing web of vague rules/restrictions/paperwork that are impossible to comply with. Instead of living your life, your time is spend on dealing with the next new set of unclear and changing rules.

The life of simple freedom and simple joy we all dream of, is an illusion that's drifting further away. You're stuck in their web.

  5. Anyone else noticed the bipolarity around this topic?
Every day it reads different: one day tourists not welcome, next day thailand may started accepting tourists, next day again not welcome,....

Not sure if retarded news reporting or an indecisive government is to blame, but is sure as hell is getting boring.
Better to report on sure things instead of speculation.

Instead of focusing on what should be done to get the tourists back, you try to get rid of the few that are left - it may be this what is called the peak of creativity ...

It's my fault Thailand has few tourists?
    Damn, you're smoking something?
I'm not the one threating them with jail time for making a selfie with a fish, am I?

  7. Let me get this:

Taking a dive, and touch a fish to make a selfie => jail time.
Because: "We need to respect our hosts and behave as good visitors when visiting the sea - not create trouble and not disturb life there".

But: Standing by the water with a fish line, dragging fish out the water with a hook, kill it, eat it => no problem.

And let's not forget tons of fish that get dragged out of the sea with nets every day.

It still will survive for hours. And it only takes seconds to touch a buffet ravaged by spitting Chinese and touch your face. Never mind the people sneezing right at your face.

Also our body is much less receptive for the virus in a hot climate (nasal mucus less vulnerable/receptive, etc....)

So in a hot climate you have 2 factors:
    - surfaces carry less active virus
    - our body is less receptive to the virus

So the amount of virus that is able to enter the body is much much lower in a hot climate.
This means that the ones that DO get infected in a hot climate will have less chance of dying.

I expect the nr of infected people in Thailand (and other tropical climates) to remain low and also have a lower death rate amongst the people that do get infected.

  9. A lot of people mocking Thailand, but they'll probably get away with it, because a flu type of virus like this does not spread well in such a hot climate:

"Studies done many years ago showed that the “regular” coronavirus (which is one of the causes of the common cold) can survive on surfaces 30 times longer in places with a temperature of 6 degrees Celsius compared to those where the temperature is 20 degrees Celsius and humidity levels are high.

More recently, scientists from Hong Kong University (HKU) including Professor Malik Peiris and Professor Seto Wing Hong showed that low temperatures and low relative humidity allowed the SARS virus to survive much longer than they would in high temperatures and humidity."

A heroine addiction is not the equivilence to rape.

And sex with condom is also not the same as sex without condom.
Yet people do it with the goal of not having certain consequences.

If a guy has rapist fantasies, bdsm can be a way to act them out in a way that it has no legal consequences. Sure, it's not the same as a real rape, but he might choose not to have the consequences of that, if he can simply go to a legalised bdsm brothel and live the same fantasy.
