  1. My Thai wife is pregnant right now so we will still get the bonus. However, the second child is going to be where most people feel the pain. I think encouraging women to go to work for a few months in order to qualify for maternity leave before having a second child is annoying. We planned to have our children close together but from the way the governments are managing maternity pay and removing the baby bonus what we are doing is penalized

  2. My wifes parents got a phone call today demanding 20k baht because my wife had left her job before 3months and the contract stated she had to pay 20k baht if she quit her job before 3 months. I suspect someone found out my wife married a farlang and wants some easy money as they have not requested any money for the past couple of years.

Anyway is it legal to have this fee for leaving a job early and do we need to pay it?

If we don't pay it can they demand money from her family?

  3. My wife and I had planned to get a transit visa for china as we have a 11 hour layover in Shanghai. I did plan to get this visa while on our honeymoon in south korea but apparently foreigners can't apply for visas for china in south korea without an ARC. As we are currently located about 2 hours away from Ubon it is hard for us to get to bangkok. Anyone know if there is any way to get around the ARC requirement in south korea or know of a way to get around the visa requirement such as joining a tour etc?

  4. Another important thing I did was to get the stat dec written from my parents about our relationship. If you are going to re submit things I would recommend that you include a stat dec from at least one family member detailing how they talk to your wife on skype etc and know your a real couple.

20 days is short. Me and my wife are lucky because we are both teachers and I could explain that we could only be together in school holidays and that it was only work that was keeping us apart. It will be hard to bring your wife here as a tourist if she does not have school holidays and they might think she would stay illegally due to the failed visa attempt.

When I started the visa process I was going to use a lawyer but it was cheaper for her to come and stay here and in the end just as effective. I would get her a touris visa and have her come here meet your family etc take photo and get stat decs about your relationship from your family.

  5. I got my 309 visa approved about a week ago for my wife. Was submitted for final check at the end of september. . We have only been together for a year so were worried about getting rejected but we think we ticked off the boxes you missed out on. It looks like you need more evidence that you are a real couple.

For your list this is what I did.

First Sharing household duties. Explained what we did do together in our letter of invitation whenever we were together.

Second sent her some money to show accout transaction evidence. (We don't have shared bank account etc) She did not need the money but sent it and explained it was for air tickets etc.

Third. I decided very early to bring my wife here to Australia and take lots of photos because I believed that was the best thing I could do to improve my chances of a visa. I think this worked big time.

Fourth. We only registered the marriage but planned to have our wedding ceremony. Explained this in the letter and sent them a coppy of the invite.

Fith. In the letter I explained how we would live together, start a family, she was goign to study english further and look for work.

  6. My wife cooks better than any restraunt here so I am happy. I would like to point out I live in a smallish town so the standards are not very high. I find we work well as a team and cook multiple dishes so our dinner often ends up like a thai dinner with many different dishes served.

  7. I have no idea why people are excited about Mcdonalds. I would rather have thai food for chrismas than Italian or American. My family tradition is to have seafood for christmas. Mcdonalds fish burger is not going to help us create the feeling of christmas. Is there seafood join in ubon that preferably is doing somethign special for Xmas?

  8. I have been to Thailand many times. My mother will be staying at ubon fro a few days at the suni grand. I will be spending chrismas with her and doing new years with my thai family in loas at 4000 islands. Trying to find a chrismas style dinner in ubon without much travel.

  9. So I have my big village wedding on the 24th of december and the day after I will be in ubon with my wife and mother (Australian). Is there anything special to do for christmas in ubon. I'm not christian, but My family has traditionally celibrated with a traditional Australian seafood dinner in the past. Anyone to the question. Does anyone know any place in ubon that holds chrismas dinners or does any form of christmas celibration?

  10. You are expected to give a gift when you stay at someones house. Normally I buy a couple of live ducks a case of bear, a bottle of whisky and some vegetables from the market. Try not to buy presents as most presents you buy are looked down on or not used. Pretty much they want gold and food and everything else you would buy wrong. If you feel the need for a gift get one of those birds nest beverage baskets.

Also buy cheap. I got some $100 whisky made in Australia and they said same same as the $3 whisky in thailand. Buy local thats what they want.

After doing the feast you should be part of the family.

  11. Things I have learnt from my mistakes when I was a tourist.

    1) Only get a hotel in a central location (walking distance to party area etc) many cheap hotels are in the middle of nowhere and the dodgy tuk tuk drivers will cost you a fortune.

    2) Do no book a spead boat tour after a night partying

    3) Don't stay at the hotel. You live only once get out and enjoy.

    4) Do the tourist traps only once.

    Ok some things to do

    1) Go to the dentist

    2) Eat lots of tasty thai food

    3) Party like its 1999

    4) Come back and explore the country away from the tourist spots.

  12. Yes native americans as a race are considered mongoloid.

And then?... You are adding 1 more to the equation: Now we have: Mongolians, Thai and Americans. I stay with trying to compare native Americans to the Thai. Surely their facial treats are similar, i noticed this also. How about cultural comparisons.

cheesy.gif I suggest you learn the difference between Mongolians and mongoloids.....lest you offend everyone in Mongolia or those with down syndrome.

Who uses that term? OP, are you measuring craniums as well>?whistling.gif

Mongoloid is race of people from east asia and south east asia including thailand. Negroid is africa, caucasian europe ect. Yes mongoloid is used as an insult. For example if I was to bash someone and mong them up it means I make their face look mongoloid (asian).
