  1. Just for fun, I have decided to 'mark' this attempt at the correct, as opposed to the wife's incorrect, usage of the English language... I am changing nothing in the original quote, simply highlighting where the OP has shown his lack of some basics regards the language..

Yes this title is a question! - All ok here, although it lulled me into a false sense of security..

Sometimes I wonder: is my (dear) wife only, incapable of pronouncing an English sound she have heard once or twice? - Punctuation, grammar where does the horror end....!!! sound she Have heard?? <deleted>!?!?!

She speaks not to bad (for a Thai people), or at least she has for sure a good vocabulary, many time I am impressed, wah you know this word! Yes - Now we can add spelling (2 o's in too, as per usage here!!), we have the perfect trifecta!!! many time? missing the plural. wah?? can't even start to determine what this was supposed to be...

She learns regularly, mainly by listening to different speaking softwares, the problem seems to be her ear. It seems very hard for her to repeat "some" English sounds properly at first hearing ? On the other hand fortunately some are perfect ??? - Hmmm, I'm willing to let this sentence slide, although software is singular AND plural..!!!

examples: It is fi (ve) o'clock I tell her no darling not fi, fi ve. - Again, letting this slide, as I believe he is attempting to show how his wife 'murders' the English language... Oh, the irony is palpable..!!!!

I like this becomes I ly this, no darling li...ke OK OK ... and she repeats I lise...no not lise, like... - See above..

For sweet: she does not put sugar in her coffee, because I don't ly swiss not good for poumpouill - At a complete loss as to what is being attempted here..

Yesterday I had to give a call to Thai airways in Suratthani to postpone my departure, you speak english said I Yes of course was the answer...the conversation was acceptable to the point my asking can you confirmed by email? yes Sir... ... It seems she was incapable to repeat after me my email, geo: djee ee o ar , the girl was incapable to understand the spelling, five minutes later... I did not lost my temper so she asked me do you have a Thai people I could speak to not far, yes of course! - You MAKE a call, not GIVE a call. Gloss over the punctuation annihilation, You ask someone to CONFIRM, not CONFIRMED. You LOSE temper, not LOST temper.

She finished the conversation with my wife. And yes I received my email properly :-)

My wife's daughter she went to school longer than my wife, she is 23 works for a aesthetic surgeon, surf the internet in English...so she can read, but... she is almost incapable to "speak" a single sentence...mai kodjai ! -

What is your experience? - I am now losing the will to live....

PS: it does not get on my nerves at all, it is part of my wife's charms, for she have many biggrin.png - HAS, not HAVE!!! <deleted>.. I give up.....

All I can say is this. With a 'teacher' such as yourself guiding your good lady through the minefield of the English language, I find it wholly believable that the reason she does not pronounce some words correctly should be a question you should ask of yourself, as opposed to asking of others.

  2. If she is learning from your written work, as opposed to orally, she hasn't got a hope in hell..

Your grammar is horrendous.... It actually hurt my eyes and brain attempting to read and understand your OP...

    Is English your 1st language?

As good as those who claim they are from Australia, US and England. Hows your Thai? coffee1.gif

    Hmmm, touchy this one is...

The post was in response to the OP, as I clearly stated....

Enjoy your cuppa.. Give it another stir if you want....

  3. To drive a motocy 100cc age is 15yrs , to drive a 125cc its 18 yrs , so she was illegal and driving with no licence and insurance no sympathy.

You obviously don't have children or a heart to make such a disgraceful statement as that about a 14-year old girl,<deleted>!It really is better you keep your big mouth shut, rather than come out with statements like the above!

Well, I have 2 kids and 1 heart.... and I completely concur with nevets comments..

Illegally driving a motocy,.. Interesting question is who gave her the keys? Parents? They obviously don't have the braincells required to raise a child to adulthood.. Took it without asking? Hopefully she learns from it...

    But... doubt it...

  4. Best to buy at BKK airport on the way back to Bangkok. Ardbeg is around 2,000 baht and there are many others.

Not an option, unless the duty free price is so much cheaper than elsewhere that it pays to take a quick flight out and back..!!!

Also, what will the customs guys let you thru with at the airport?

  5. Well you smile at the policeman and thank him for keeping you right on the traffic laws as you give him the 100 baht, you smile at the receptionist and add a 100 baht apologising for any inconvenience and thanking her for the excellent service, you walk away, and everybody is all smiles...........or you can behave as a bellicose farang and wipe the smile off every face around you....

Don't know about bellicose, but your response appears to have been written by a bellend farang...

Why should anyone knowingly put up with being ripped off?

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing"

By doing nothing, you are perpetuating the bullshit and doing neither you or the Thais any kind of favour...

  6. Try "The Breeze", around the corner from Central Changwattana. All farang, all the time. Some decent fish and chips, and a quiz night too.

Where's that then ?.I've been down that way a few times lately and haven't seen it.

Turn left immediately after passing Central (Rama IV bridge direction), straight over at x-roads, go to end of the soi..... Breeze is on the right corner...

Would that be Soi 3, where to turn into?

    Any pinpoint on here? Cheers!

  7. I have had a good chuckle at some of the anti-Russian posts on this thread so far.. and wanted to add my tuppence worth to the discussion...

To preface my comments, I would like to add that I am the proud husband of a Russian woman, and have visited Russia many times, and have made a lot of Russian friends.... The following comes from my experience with friends who have made the trip....

The vast majority of Russian tourists have absolutely no idea of what type of place Phuket / Pattaya etc is before they board their charter flight to Thailand. They are sold solely on a foreign, warm, sunny holiday that's relatively cheap, as this is how it is sold in the local travel agents... The first wander around the resort at night comes as something of a surprise, to say the least, to these young upwardly mobile (by Russian standards) couples and, it is at this point that the female makes the assumption that the male knew all along.....

This does not really set things up for the relaxing holiday they were looking for....

So, is it really that surprising that the guys tend to be a little short with people, when there 2 week holiday with their girlfriend has just been cock-blocked by a misunderstanding????

Don't think it really excuses their generally impatient and rude behavior. I was in Phuket for less than a week and I couldn't stand how they (the russians) were. Sure there not all like that, but the vast majority are.

Thing with Russians (men especially), is that they have been brought up almost the same as Yanks, insofar as they believe that they are the greatest nation in the world, and that everyone is inferior to them... They have not had the same diversity of cultures introduced to their own country many others have, and so this feeling of superiority has built up for far longer than anywhere else...

Russians are basically what Americans would have been like without having the Mexicans and Canadians to blame / have a go at...

  9. Try "The Breeze", around the corner from Central Changwattana. All farang, all the time. Some decent fish and chips, and a quiz night too.

  10. *Sigh*,

i actually thought this was going to be a useful topic for a newbie sad.png

    I guess i proved i really am a newbie!

Yep, unfortunately it would appear that the site is happy for old time flamers to post inflammatory replies to posts, but you appear to require more than my relatively short time on the bored to respond in kind...

  11. Still in Pattaya, I frequented a Russian restaurant on Walking Street.

The missus and I ordered a starter and a main course each...

    Her starter arrived.....

    Our main courses arrived...

    I asked for the bill...

The bill arrived, with my starter right behind it...

10 minutes of arguing about being charged for a dish I never received...

Paid bill LESS price of starter... No tip..

    End...

  12. There's actually an Irish bar at the Impact Arena. That's not too far.Been there twice but only for a quick drink.Prices not too bad and a good selection of grub.

Hmmm.. Might try and check that out over the weekend..

Explains now why I was told that there was a Flann O'Briens in Nonthaburi.. Couldn't find it and ended up down at their Asiatique pub...

  13. No need to renounce your citizenship, but I agree getting Thai Citizenship is really going all in. It really surprises me that more don't do it - buy land no visas etc.

It's cos you have to earn money in Thailand, and most of us come here after retirement with so much money, it's not worth our while grubbing around for three years to earn the paltry Thai wages.

As I'm given to understand you just have to file tax returns for 3 years and it doesn't really matter where the money comes from as long as it's legal, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Sorry, money has to be earned and taxable in Thailand from a job with a work permit.

My employer pays my Thai tax for me and I get a letter confirming so each year, Im told...

Would I therefore qualify if I were to stay 3 years?? Reason I ask is that a colleague has been here 3.5 years and wants to eventually stay, but work are moving him on.. Could he claim Thai citizenship now??

  14. I'm not too far from you Nip.I'm in Tha It.There's a few good places along Ratchpruk Road. The Holland beer house is a good place.should be close to you.As far as bars go,I haven't found anything.I'd love to go out and watch a game in the bar but with nothing around here,it's just a case of sitting at home and watch it on me computer.

Same here... Got a place in Nichada Thani but nowhere really to go out to locally..

I usually make do with heading downtown after work to SKM area for a pint of ale a couple of days a week....

  15. You speak Thai? And how old are you? As there are a few places out here, but where depends on the answers to those two questions

Yes I speak Thai. I dont understand what my age has got to do with it unless you want to know if I am over 18? If so I left 18 behind me close to 30 years ago...Thanks for replying.

Well there are plenty of places here, but they are almost all designed for Thais, age plays a major factor... Do you want to hang out in a pub filled w 20 year old thai college students, don't think that's gonna work out too well...that's why, try the paulaner beer garden& restaurant off of changwattana, near central, decent Italian is mr Enzo's by impact, BBQ sandwiching near nichadathani, green terrace on prachachuen, hostess lounge called beautiful girls club at prachachuen near the mall nww, north park has a driving range,& rachapruek golf club.. For the clubhouse you need a membership .. If your looking for expat hangouts, there isn't much...

The BBQ place is where? I live in Bang Bua Thong and love good BBQ. Thanks.

Samakee Rd, just outside the main gate to Nichada Thani....
