I, myself am not married and my sons name on the birth certificate is Clinton Kennedy Kaiser, nothing Thai about that name......would also add that he is registered on his grandparents house book.

This is interesting- 3 years ago I was asked the same thing with my 3 year old son using a us passport. I said according to the sign out front the mother was not allowed past a certain point without a ticket and she was probably in a taxi home! My question is at what age can they deny a us citizen from leaving? how do they know he is actually thai- could be anywhere from se asia?

I am not married, my name is on BC, my son has us citizenship, have not "legalized fatherhood", but I have claimed the deduction and all I used was a copy of the thai BC.

I had the same problem. All I did was went to my embassy (US) and got an affidavit that said the name on the degree and name in the passport was the same person. Worked for me for 14 years.
