I suggest you find a very good school near you and go there. Ask who the best teachers are there and hire one to be your mentor/consultant.

They can fill you in on what you need to know and what the challenges are. Do not be cheap. Pay them 1000B/hr or more.

It will be worth it and much cheaper than the TEFL course.

Hello! I am currently in a situation that should be fairly common for more seasoned expats and experts on Thai culture. This seems to be the best place to ask.

I have been dating a Thai girl for about half a year. Everything is going real well. She acts more farang and we are in what would be considered a western-style relationship. I am falling in love, but due to the well-know presence of ladyboys I'm still a little hesitant. Everything leads me to believe she is a genuine woman. All the parts are anatomically accurate (I don't mean to claim myself an expert, but I do know my way around a woman's body very well), and even IDs are all in order. However, she says that she doesn't think she can have children due to a couple abortions in the past and few years of unsucsessful attempts at conception in her last serious relationship. Anytime she says this, I am a bit shaken because I want to have my own children someday. She says she believes a doctor could help her get pregnant, but the whole situation in Thailand makes me wonder if this is all a cover up.

There seems to be a proceedure for everything to make a 100% woman, but I was wondering if there is anything that can't be faked? Is there someway of verifing this before we get to serious?

I have been accepted on a Msc Finance course starting in March 08 at the London School of Business and Finance, on the basis i have owned and run a business for the last few years.

From what has been posted i take it that its now almost impossible to get any kind of teaching job without a degree of sorts?

You have been accepted onto an MSc with no previous qualifications but your experience? I find that hard to believe. Wouldnt Finance be an MA? Business is an MA.

An MBA is NOT an easy thing to get onto. It shouldnt be! An MBA isnt a 1st degree. Some universities look at it as a 3rd degree ie AFTER an MA and BA.

That said, Thailand is still a place of yes, no, maybe. If you have a degree, you can get a job - a decent one - easily. Without a degree its more difficult.

He took a tefl course, but failed. He says its because he is somewhat illiterate and has dyslexia.

unfortunately even people who are severely dyslexic are finding jobs on the PGDE course to TEACH primary kids in the uk now. I stand for equal rights but this for me is a step too far. How can someone who is dyslexic teach young kids of 5 and up how to spell, read etc?

This one person I know was at uni last year and got extra time in her exams, for her course work, got a free laptop, got all kinds of taxpayers help and she didnt have a clue. But because of her "disability" she got guaranteed an interview place in teacher training above others, others who maybe had higher marks and abilities.

Is that right? To my mind no.

And to sum it up she got accepted.

I had the "honour" of being one of her spell checkers last year and not only was her spelling atrocious ( ok, it was because of her dyslexsia ) but her whole attitude was one of an 8year old, the reasoning of her essays were worse! She wouldnt stand up to a bunch of 1 year olds misbehaving yet alone 8 year olds. she will burst into tears and waste thousands of pounds of training, all in the eyes of PC.

I've had fairly good experience at camp Swampy but one time it was an hour and twenty minutes. Should try Ninoy Aquino (Manila), passport control there is mind numbingly slow ALL the time.

maybe I was lucky but i got through manila in 10 minutes, stanstead was a fuc_kign nightmare with a late night charter in from spain in september. melbourne took about 40 min plus 30 for customs just over a year ago.

Never upset an immigration officer is the rule I think your friend has just learned.

Personally I would have thought Ass hole is understood by 90% of immigration and police officers around the world no matter what the native language is.

I do know it is almost imposible to get a visa to the USA and pretty sure that Britain must be the same.

Visa? god, the immigration service is pathetic here, there are thousands of illegal immigrants running around and the authorities have no idea where they are. All they need to do is turn up claim to be burmese and claim asylum. then they can bunk off and claim benefits and do whatever they want with little fer of being arrested.

There was a case last week of an immigration man offering to "help" an application of a Zimbabwean woman - if she had sex with him. Trouble was he came to the Uk as an illegal immigrant as well!

BITS is the corporate teaching arm and BFITS is the "school" arm.

I worked for BITS for a short while, its got its good and bad points. The pay is not bad but the downside is that you can get "removed" from a course. They send someone along to the course about 3 or 4 lessons in and ask the students if they like you and if they dont you effectively get fired.

At least thats what happened 4 years ago.

Since coming back home I wish I was back in Bangkok from a safety point of view.

I seem to be cursed with the "Who you looking at pal" or the agressive "got any spare change" attitudes following me round.

As white folk there, we get away with a hel_l of a lot of behaviour that would result in a good smacking at home. The thai against thai crime rate is far lower than the thai farang crime % ( well maybe apart form pattaya )

well lets face it, how many of us use the rail link at the existing one?

why give the thais an extra reason to hold power over you? get the degree and come over.

1.ALL airls change from summer to winter schedule and back last SUN in march, as in OCT, well funny, thats when the summer/wintertime chnage goes on! Some airls finally release the times only a few weeks before, and its computer: if nothing has been put in, nothing comes out!

2.It DIFFERS quite a lot WHERE you buy tix. AS Airls respond to local circumstances, thus any idea out of the UK/US/EUR should not be applied here. Thai do not tend to book so long before (have not got the money, nor the foresight), even AirAsia, other as say RYAN, only does the cheapspecials a month or so before!

3.Out of TYhaild, NEVER use the airlines ownwebsites, except for times. The BETTER prices are only via local agents, and NO, they will never do tix out of another country.

Not true. Got a great deal from the Lufthansa web site to Vietnam last year which the travel agents couldnt match.

And at the moment, the Thai web site is matching prices for prices quoted by travel agents as well for my March trip.

Does anyone know if there is a local equivalent to PRiceline.com where you BID a price for your ticket? The main site only allows flights originating in the US.

Most the people here have put me well of teaching anyway, for starts most of them lookk down their noses at people trying to come to Thailand and teach, just for the fact that they don't have degrees. In my eyes that's f#cking stupid to think in this way. ....... But I think the only reason most of the guys/girls get pissed off with this is becasue they see people that havn't got degrees coming to LOS and finding work just as easy and getting the same money but without having put hardwork into gaining a degree. Suppose I would be pissed a little aswell.

Now you see, if you had got a degree you would have worked that out far earlier.

Its obvious Simon is just a troll and or a complete low life. We should just ignore him from now on.

Basically you need to have that file available for other people to download from you.

But the big problem for me is that in order to get the equal or better ratio you have to have "popular" file ie match of the day and so on.

So if you download a 400mb file about 12th century cabinet making, you might only get 1 other person interested in it or none. Whereas MOTD will guarantee multiple people downloading from you and a far better ratio.

I am not interested in any of the "popular" files, so i dont know if long term it will be a site i will use.
