  1. More likely that an informant that knew this guy, turned him. I have not quite understood what makes people reveal certian things baout themselves, but they do. They just go to talk to someone. If that someone becomes angry at them or there is a substantial reward invloved. One little phone call can change things dratically.

98% of crimes are solved by informants not crime labs

while i agree with your premise i'm wondering about the source of your 98%

    care to post a link?

more likely you just plucked the number of of the sky...like most 'percentages' which get bandied about

  2. If this set of data is to be believed :D , explain why they list Hawaiian Air with no accidents and no fatalities! :D Back in the 70s they had a 737 enroute from Kauii to Honolulu which had the top pealed right off the airplane due to metal fatigue and had a passenger and stewardess sucked right out of the aircraft....... to many holes in the data! The aircraft landed safely....... :D

Maybe because it was Aloha Airlines and not Hawaiian Air and on April 28, 1988 :o

    Research definately floored

They list Air New Zealand as never having had a fatality...did they forget Mt Erubus?

Surveys can always be twisted to say whatever people want them to say

  3. OP: You have reason to be concerned about the stamp in the last page of your passport, because this makes it impossible to have the passport extended.

For extra pages to be added the last page must be clean.

Also, many countries have discontinued the practise of adding pages

easy to check this if you look on the website of your country

  4. “We will be the first immigration center to offer on-line visa extension applications where the applicant will submit the application over the internet,” said Pol Col Itthipol. “Immigration police will check the information overnight and be ready to extend the applicant’s visa the next day. This will take only 10 minutes as we already have the information needed.”

seems most here have missed the point...

in Pattaya...not Bkk!... you can apply online, but the next day you must visit the imm office where they will issue the extension in 10 minutes

  5. You have a point, they could have named it something that foreigners can pronounce and remember, since it's mostly foreigners using the airport.

    Careful guys

The new airport was named by HM The King

I come from NZ and we have many Maori place names which are difficult for foreigners to pronounce but they have not been changed

    Sue

    one

    a

    poom

    Not that difficult really

  6. what a generous man Simon is

one presumes this is heavily laced sarcasm

here's a guy who overcommitted in a new bar area which never took off

now he's trying to off-load it

TV seems to be his salvation

take a look at the area...one way traffic...no parking...surrounded by bars...inbetween BTS stops

not really a suitable location for TV members and their partners

it's a dream G...some things are better kept as dreams

  7. Ban Laem Visa Run

Disclaimer: I have no association with any visa run company…just a long-term poster sharing info for those who have similar needs

Jack Golf have changed their run on Saturday and Sunday from PoiPet to Ban Laem because of the long delays in PoiPet on the weekends.

On Sunday we left Bkk at 7am and arrived back at 4:15 so the time factor is about the same.

The trip takes about 30 minutes longer each way but there is no delay at the border.

You must present your own passport to Thai immigration both out and in and then JG take care of the Cambodian details while you have lunch in the casino.

At the moment there’s hardly anyone using this crossing so a whole bus is cleared in about 10 – 15 mins.

Lunch is Thai food and it’s the only casino I’ve ever been in where they use money and not chips.

JG accompanied this group himself and it looks like they will transfer their total operation here, every day of the week instead of just the weekend.

This is the same crossing that Philip uses in the runs from Ekamai, but he goes down to Klaeng (344) and across to Chathaburi (3) and then up to PongNamRon (317) and finally out to the border (3193) at Ban Laem.

JG goes the other way: takes the 304 from Bangkok to Phanom Sarakham and then the 359 towards Sa Kaeo where you turn right onto the 317 (which is exactly 200kms from BKK). After Soi Dao turn left at Wang Nam Yen onto the 3193 and out to the border at Ban Laem.

If you’re driving, Phil’s route is a much better road, with more traffic but more passing opportunities. It’s also much further and obviously takes a lot longer.

JG’s route is shorter and quicker. The roads are narrower but not as busy.

Personally I prefer JG’s route cause it’s much more scenic, especially as you come down the 317…very beautiful countryside.

  8. I have had some experience with NICS and can recommend their courses.

They use people who are actively involved in the field they are teaching and classes seem to be small.

Most students appear to be happy when they finish and many go on to other courses run by NICS as they also cover ticketing, shipping, cargo, ground hostess, flight attendant and hotel courses.

  9. Never used the budget carriers, yet. But if you are able to get a boarding pass for same day return while checking in in BKK for SIN you not even have to go through immigration in SIN.

Same, if the carrier has a counter in the transit area. Just present your ticket to get a new boarding pass.

Arriving by air in BKK, immigration does not care for a chop in your passport of the country you are arriving from.

This is not really good advice 'cause if it was true why make the trip to Sing at all.. Just check in at the airport in BKK and then exit through Bkk immigration..but in reality it's not possible

Imm do want to see your stamp, expecially if it's a day trip

  10. done both of them.

www.thaivisarun.com depart 10 o'clock, a bit late for me, but it is pretty quick.

the lotus on nut one, it is a bit more expensive, but you can smoke on the way, which is very helpful.

can smoke on the bus, are you serious?

Well 'smoking on the way' would put me off using that serivce.

I have used the 10am service, but their van has very small seats and I'll never use it again

  11. Thanks Highway Man,

Bussing it is an option I've thought about too. Also going by train from the airport would be more scenic but perhaps slower.

At the moment time for me is not an issue so I make my visa runs into a little two day get-aways. :o

Years ago I took the train to Arun...being a lover of trains...it's 305 kms and cost 44 baht but it took 7 hours!!. I came back on the bus...144 baht but only 4 hours

  12. I'm with you on this one IJWT

Guess he didn't pay his rent...

But I do take umbridge with the earlier post which tarred all teachers with the same brush. (Can't get the 'quote' feature to work)

I saw a pic of an American soldier holding a prisoner by a leash... are you going to say that all american soldiers are like that??

I am also 56 and have been here 9 years..teaching

But i'm not screwing young lads

Despite the popular opinion here on TV, there are many 'normal' guys here teaching and doing a good job

  13. Cut & paste from a longer report I did for ajarn.com

I drove from KlongSan in Bangkok to the border at Had Lek in four and a half hours.

It’s a four lane highway all the way to Trat and on a Sat morning was virtually traffic free. The last 70kms from Trat to the border is narrow and winding, but picturesque and quite enjoyable.

Secure parking, courtesy of the casino, is right at the end on the left. Just drive as far as you can go. It’s 200 baht per day, but free when stamped from the casino. (I just put the parking ticket beside my chips when I started to play blackjack and someone took it and had it stamped for me.)

Go to Thai immigration office on the RHS of the road. They will stamp you out of Thailand. (Ask for a TM card so you can fill it in at the hotel and not in the searing sun on your return.)

Cambodian Immigration office is on the LHS. Go inside and complete the visa application form. (Grab another one so you can do it beforehand next time) They asked me where I was going. I said to the casino. (Had a carry bag with me) Charge was 1000 baht. Go outside, turn right to the window and get your stamp. In all, took about 10 minutes. I was the only person there.

  14. Thaivisa is full of 'a friend of a friend' comments.

The true story is that the company has 15 days to report the termination of employment. After that time they get fined.

The foreigner has 7 days to also report. After that there's a 1000 baht fine plus overstay.

The liability is with both parties.

  15. Ok. Just an update so you know what actually happened.

My WP was done through the one-stop-service on Ratchada.

    I went yesterday.

It was seven days after I finished work. They cancelled the wp, then moved to immigration.

They cancelled my nonO visa, effective yesterday.

I asked for the seven days. She told me 'you had seven days already'! So the 7 days is dated from the date you finish work not from the day you hand back the wp.

Today I had to go to Suan Plu. Paid overstay 200 baht (one day). Then had my visa extended for 21 days (14 + 7) for 1900 baht. That gives me time to get new wp from new company, at which time they'll reissue my one year visa.

Pretty painless really, and all without leaving the country.

FYI: they now have a free pocket book - in Thai and English - entitled 'Work Permit Handbook" published by The Office of Foreign Workers Administration Department of Employment.

It's excellent, and has everything you need to know about getting a visa using the Ratchada office.

As an aside, the most difficult thing about Suan Plu is the car parking. Almost impossible to get a park there. If you're driving, try the small soi directly opposite the exit from immigration. There's parking in the soi and only a short walk to the office.
