we built ours in hua hin about 6 years ago at a cost of 12k / m2.  nice finish too, with good euro kitchen and plenty marble counter tops etc.  big euro PVC windows, boontavorn floor tiles, cpac concrete roof tiles, jotun paint, large bath tub etc etc

plans drawn up by an architect from the orbitor was only 7,000 baht (we were quoted 150k from a farang architect!!)

labour was 4,000 baht per m/2, paid in small installments - all the materials we resourced ourselves.

a few headaches, but overall a very rewarding experience - plus the house still looks great

Jase, any chance you kept the builders details or name? We are looking to start building in Hua Hin soon, cheers

  2. I'm in a similar situation, I live in Isaan and planning to move near Hua Hin in 2 years. It will be far from the in laws. But im moving so my daughter can make friends with English speaking kids and have a better education. If it's best for our daughter then its best for everyone. I'm the main bread winner so I where ever I go people follow. I'm like the pied piper. Good luck with the move!

  3. I am based in Khon Kaen on a non o marriage Visa. I have been leaving the country every 3 months for the extension as it was from Suvannaket without 400k.

The Non O expiry is August 5. I flew in on June 18 and the last stamp says i am permitted until September 15.

My question is: If I go over the border to Vientiane and fly back into Bangkok on August 4th, will they stamp my passport until November 4th.. Essentially giving me 3 more months?

    Thank you!

Also, would i need to stay a night in Vientiane?

  4. From my experience having any money saved or not isn't a big issue, they'll be more interested in who's sponsoring her, you being the best option, someone in the family (uncle) maybe ok. A solid work history with proof goes a long way + a reference / confirmation from the employer. I think if the employer is a reputable company / organisation this also helps. 2+ Years full time employment would be advisable.

  5. I did tourist visas for 3 years, had to change border crossings and sometimes go into Cambodia for a few days. I was told something similar once but from Thailand not Laos, the guy was probably confused. But if you continually use the same country / border problems can arise. Mix it up and you'll be fine.
