Yes the other site is a good site too. I know it and like it too. I don't think you can compare them though. One is for many people to write and chat and post topics. Mostly about people building homes themselves and many what I would call not luxury or high end property. The other site is written by professional, project managers and construction personnel. So it tends to be from the perspective of professional construction companies offering quality service, professional services. Industry advice rather than individuals building for the first time or passing tips and ideas. So I think they compliment each other. Neither being better than the other really. Both offer good advice and facts. I think if you are successful and want to build a quality home using a professional construction company then buildinginthailand is more informative. If you want to build yourself and are fascinated by building the coolthaihouse is perhaps better suited for you. Both good sites. Both good sites and full of good facts.

What was a young man doing owning a race car....you have to be trained to drive a Ferrari and for someone of that age to own one is just simply ridiculous. They are racing cars and not to be owned lightly. I feel so sorry for all involved as at the end of the day he did not wish to have this happen. Nor did the family of the poor policeman who died. So sad. No one did. He now has to man up and take responsibility which is no easy task. He should not be hated for he is rich and nor should he be the centre of a witch hunt. But yes he should take responsibility and I am sure he is not a happy bunny right now. But it seems through carelessness, young stupidity and bad luck a tragedy has occurred that will haunt all concerned for the rest of their lives. Albeit none of us know the facts. Very sad.
I read in the Bangkok post web site about the various peoples comments including politicians and police etc.: What I find unbelievable is that someone whose own son was acquitted of murder of a policeman tells another policemen there will be serious penalties if he was seen to be perverting the course of justice. The same guy whose son is now back as a policeman. Is it me or is this world gone completely insane. The lunatics have got control and everything is upside down. Nothing makes sense and all decency is lost in a squalid quagmire of corruption, wickedness, low class behavior and bad people. So sad and so disgusting. And what is so damning is that it is not just Thailand. USA, UK and many countries are equally as foul at political levels. I think George Orwell in Animal Farm when looking at the disgusting nature of communism and various political doctrines such as fascism wrote: some of us are equal but some of us are more equal than others. He was referring to the pigs in power in his book. I am afraid we live in a lie...our world is not run by democratic principles but fascist principles. Anyone who knows political systems and understand history will know this. Democracy is a lie and a fantasy created by those in power. This is the same in the UK and USA. Open our eyes and one will surely see the truth

I do not think I could praise a government full of hatred, murder and who are responsible for over 50 years of some of the worlds worst human rights records and appalling ethnic cleansing on the entire globe. They make Saddham look like an innocent child. He was executed but these guys get praise and salutes of good doing.....what hypocracy and ignorance of the truth and the facts. Sorry I cannot buy into it or wish to applaud such horrible evil human beings. The only people who should be applauded are the poor mass folk of Myanmar, the likes of the Karens and other ethnic minorities who have been ethnically cleansed and brutalised since the end of the WW 2. Please read your history books and learn the facts so none of us are misguided on the country, its politcs and its current state. Go to the borders and cross over. See for yourself.....shame on anyone shaking those governments hands. Would not do it with Saddham, so why do it to someone a lot worse. So bored with the hypocracy.
Yes its great people can invest but it is the government and friends who will reap most of the rewards. Having been there, I can say there is much for people to know about and learn before thinking it is all over and all can be forgiven. The scars run very deep and the people are so nice too.....but have been treated so badly, ignored by us and those that did it are still there living in their expensive homes shaking hands with world leaders....I wish Myanmar all good but I know there are millions in poverty and millions who have suffered at the hands of the evil dictatorship. Would we be forgiving if our sisters had been raped, children murdred, sons killed. All because we were not of the same ethnic background ? Peace and love to all. Good luck to the Myanmar people and I hope so much it is all good for the future.I hope you get what you deserve which is respect and decency shown to you at last.

I know us expats and people can moan sometimes and we perhaps find certain aspects of Thailand difficult or frustrating. But that is the same for any foreign person in a foreign country. We have to accept laws, regulations and proceedures we are either not familiar with or are different to what we know. And where ever one lives in the world, life can get us all down at times....But I have to say I love Thailand and I hope with all its politics and disagreements it does not change too much in its formula and the way it works on a day to day basis. No where is perfect and we in the West certainly can have no right to boast or constantly dictate and rant on how others should run their countries. If the Western countries like my own in Europe or the USA were so great, why are millions leaving it behind all over the world; millions are looking for jobs outside of their own countries; why are our governments bankrupt, our banks as sleezy as any outfit in the world; our streets crime ridden and so many people disappointed with their lot in life. Yes there is much wrong in many countries and we can criticise any one of them. But look for the positive and the good.
I have had kindness shown to me in Thailand like no where in the world; decency given and generosity of heart displayed. Yes I have seen bad things too but I see many more back in Europe at the moment. No place is Utopia I am afraid. Life is pretty good here and Thailand thanks for being such a kind and good host to me and many other guests here. ....So glad I came here.

Rarely do I come across a good site providing useful information free of charge and written by people who know what they are talking about. If you are thinking of building in Thailand, or want an architect this is a great web site to read. Loads of good pointers and factual information about architects and builders in Thailand. Tells you what to expect, average costs, things to look out for and all sorts of construction details. Its free too, which is brilliant ! I also dig the way they make it clear that is not a perfect guide but here just to offer useful free information and hopefully be helpful. Nice one. http://www.buildinginthailand.com

I deplore terrorism and anyone who causes violence to any human being......but...Iranian currency found at scene.....really !!!! now there is a coincidence..surpise surpise...and why would Iran bomb anything in Thailand...all in a matter of days Iran is bombing round the world attacking countries .......I think we all need to read history books and learn from the past and who benefits from this sort of thing. Then you will learn the real causes......very sad of course but sorry for my sketicism but Iran I do not believe has suddely turned to wanting to bomb the world.....and why Thailand ? why a taxi driver ? I think some people just want a war with Iran.....my apologies for my cyncism but perhaps twenty years of reading hsitory books and knowing how politics is played out on the world stage I believe nothing I see on CNN, BBC or in the newspapers anymore; and anyone who was in Thailand during the protests may just remember how biased and false the BBC and CNN news was.....you cannot believe anything anymore. Often there are hidden agendas and misinformation. I am so sad that this is being played out in Thailand..whoever is behind it are vile

Anyone intesrested in how and who were behind the drug industry in this part of the world should read: The Secret Army by Richard Gibson...you may need to order it from Asia books. There are also other good books too that clearly describe how it cocurred and who was involved and the history.

- Prostitution exists worldwide and is part of human history. For God's sake get a life. Moralists.....you got to hate em. From what I have heard this man was one of the biggest massage parlour owners in Bangkok and now he has found the lord and is all pure and innocent. Now I guess he is rich out of it he wants to close it all down. There are far worse atrocities and crimes to be concerned about. ...boring !!!

Sunsia, do not worry....we do not all think in that way and we do not all make generalizations, as we know they are plainly wrong....please do not think all foreigners think like this, as we do not. If we did not like Thailand we would not live hear and millions of people would not travel here on holiday. Bangkok has in fact just beat London as the most visited city in the world by tourists ! And voted the number one city by tourists by a travel magazine. There are many wonderful aspects of Bangkok but like any big city it has crime and it has violence.
Any intelligent person knows that not all Thai people are the same as this man and they too suffer at the hands of horrible violent people such as this man. All societies have their share of nasty criminals and violent people. Not only Thailand. The UK and USA have our fair share too and only a month or two ago a man was hacked to death in broad daylight in the UK. There are knife crimes every day all over the UK. There are also violent crimes in most countries. I am afraid many societies around the world are suffering a decay in social decency and negative behavioral problems. This is not a Thai thing or a foreign thing...it is just a violent aggressive man who lost control and killed someone. It is very sad for all involved and the man hopefully will be punished to the full extent of the law. His actions demand that to show all taxi drivers they will not be allowed to do this and get away with it.
This is a very sad and most horrific story. And any good, decent person of any nationality anywhere in the world including Thai people would rightfully be saddened and disgusted by this grotesque attack. A Thai family will be terribly effected by this as the victim was married with a Thai family. He supported them all. They have not only lost their Father and husband but the support they had. The victim was someone's brother, father and son. He obviously liked living in Thailand and he married a Thai lady so I am sure he did not think all Thai people are bad. Of course they are not. I have many wonderful Thai friends who have given me such gracious hospitality and acts of kindness. So do not worry we know it is not all Thai people and we know many of you are of course saddened, as you all have families too. Emotions fly high on chat rooms and people are angry and sickened. But if we live or have lived in Thailand, we obviously like it and this will not ruin that. But perhaps it will make us all, Thai's and foreigners alike, more careful. We all know that some taxi drivers (not all) are rude, aggressive and try to cheat people. They have a reputation for it. I have even heard my Thai female friends say they scared to go in taxi's at night on their own, due to safety concerns and my Thai friends often get upset with the taxi drivers attitude. It is a problem that needs to be dealt with for sure. Of course there are some nice ones too but I think we have all experienced taxi driver attitude issues, not wanting to use meters, refusing to go somewhere, trying to inflate prices and taking us on rides around the city the long way to make more money...I also know people who have been attacked. I personally have had to get out of taxi's due to crazy driving and bad attitudes. It happens.... they should be drug tested too every month and go through some sort of training and punished and fined for violations. They are responsible for their passengers and should act accordingly as they should do anywhere in the world.
The man is caught and hopefully will be punished severely for his nasty horrible act. It is no ones fault except him. Lets hope the government sees the problem and acts on it.
At best all we can all do is wish the family good thoughts and send our condolences. We are all sad, both Thai people and foreigners. . I still love Thailand and have great respect for many Thai people who have been so kind to me. But I am always careful in taxi's !
