Thailand would love your money, although it really is a drop in a large Ocean.

I've been to most of the Caribbean, north, central, and south America, Europe, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Pacific, and I return to Thailand for each of my holidays, as I would like to retire here, once I am 50. My visits have been primarily to help me confirm the decision for a choice for retirement. It's not a simple decision. So far, I do wish to retire here.

I really am a tourist, I rent cars/bikes, stay at hotels, go on tours, travel around, shop. I do believe this helps Thailand. I also believe I should have been given a tourist visa to do these things, that's what it's for. I don't understand how or why any other visa would be required. I really wish the visa on arrival was 90 days. This would eliminate visa runs for the majority of legitimate tourists.

Immigration has nothing to do with your bank balance. Monks with no money or assets can easily get visas for thailand, however according to the OP highly paid oil workers don't. That's the reality.

Sure there are people that would offer great contributions to Thailand but the way the rules stand at the moment - which seem 50 years out of date - don't provide any kind of visa entitlement for offshore workers on rotation

It is about tourist working illegally. My finances prove I do not need to work here while visiting, nothing more.

10 Visa runs in a year! Sounds like you spent most of the year in Thailand which doesn't leave much time for work does it? Perhaps the Consulate staff were on to something!!

I rechecked, actual 10 entries, 4 visa runs in 2 years. I still get paid while off work anyway.

On the money the OP is on, Singapore is a realistic option.

Great banking in Singapore. Why should it matter where I go? I'm not doing anything dodgy. I've done it there before, I've done it in Penang. They can refuse me if they wish, but imagine other people, with less financial means, it must be worrying that you could jump through all the hoops and lose all the time, money, and airfare if someone is having a bad day. I feel for them. I posted this specifically to help someone else avoid hassles. I require no help with the issue. The people working at the Singapore embassy were very helpful and polite to me. They just thought if they gave a visa I would not be let in at the airport.

I was denied a tourist visa in Singapore. They said too many visa runs. I have been out of Thailand for close to 3 months. I am on my way to Thailand to get married to my Thai fiance. I earn close to 500,000 baht per month as engineer working offshore.

I had 10 out in visa runs from last year mostly. I've bean to 10 other countries since my visa runs, including usa, an UK.

I'm flying in today, hopefully, on a visa waiver with exit flight. If Thailand no longer wants money from tourists like me, I can afford to holiday in any country in the world. Any recommendations for similar lifestyle, beach type places?

Update. Got in no problem.

I was denied a visa yesterday in Singapore. Too many visa runs (10) in 2 years. At the airport now, trying to enter on 30 day visa waiver. Been out almost 3 months now.

Now we will here from all the cry babies who been living in Thailand with these tourist visa. Either get a proper visa or go home.

Any advice for someone under 50 that isn't married with no Thai children, that working outside of Thailand on a 6 week on 6 week off rotation, that wishes to spend his time off in Thailand??? Any suggestions???

Check out the thread related to the Thai Elite visa or PE visa. Basically 500K baht for a 5 year multi-entry visa. Ideal for O&G workers under 50 without the usual commitments.

I am 10 weeks on 10 weeks off, but I stayed longer at beginning of year and did some out/in runs as I didn't know when I was going back to work, waiting for a call. I am there as a tourist and don't work there. I know they will judge wrong when I return. I am engaged to be married, but am out of Thailand, working right now. I don't even know where I should go for a 60 day TVisa.I'll be near New Zealand when I finish work. My work books next ticket. What if I can't get in anc have a return ticket is from Thailand?

If people are going to Cambodia, where is a good place with nice beaches? I may join the many others that want to hang out in asia, hassle free. Do you think my thai wife will move to Cambodia during my off time?
