  1. I know I am not required to report at the moment, but I want to anyway.

My last date of entry was 1 Dec 2019, I reported in person -- late -- on 2 April and paid my fine.  Next due date is 30 June.

Question: can I do this report online?  The website will not accept either date (1/12 or 2/4).  That, and I can't remember the flight number -- which doesn't seem to be required anyway.  And I am fairly certain I remain in the window for online reporting.

If you have any intel that will help, I would appreciate it.

The embassy website does state if have a emergency requirement for services you should contact them.

What is the latest date you can get one?

I am not aware of any way to get around it unless some exceptions are allowed by the Department of Employment and Immigration due to the emergency situation.

Not sure what services the Department of Consular Affairs  of the MFA are doing now either. There is an announcement here in Thai.

Thanks for your quick reply.  I've contacted the Embassy and they told me by email to wait until they allow appointments again -- they can't give me a date when service will resume.  While at the MOFA today, I was told that this requirement remains.

My extension of stay for my current employer expires on 14 May.  As I understand it, I can "attach" a new work permit from my new employer to this extension if my new work permit is submitted by this date -- then apply for a new, one-year extension.  Do I understand correctly?  Thanks again for your help.

  3. Good afternoon, a requirement for obtaining a visa and work permit to teach is a notarized copy (or a notarized affidavit) of my university degree.  This must be submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Chaeng Watthana.  Currently, the US Consular Services in Bangkok is not taking appointments for notary services.  Is there another way around this requirement as long as the Embassy opens is closed for non-emergency services?

Thank you in advance for your help and advice.

  4. I'm a 53 y/o American, hold a Non B and work permit that expire in January 2021 but will officially be furloughed on 25 April.  I understand that on 25/4 I will have 24 hours to leave the country or pay 1,900 for a 7-day extension.  I have since found work as a teacher for the new school year beginning in May and my school has begun getting me sorted for a new visa and work permit though I know there's a minefield ahead:

    • I can't "quit" my current job before 25/4 or I will lose my severance pay, etc.
    • I understand the US Embassy can only provide letters for extensions for tourist visas.
    • I could fly back to the States for a new visa but wouldn't be able to return without major delays (14 day quarantines in both countries + visa processing etc) that will imperil my new teaching job.  And let's face it, nothing will be back to normal on 1 May.

Understanding that I can't do anything until 25 April, is there any advice you can give that will allow me to stay legally while the crisis runs its course?  I'm thinking that a retirement visa is an option but unsure if I can meet the financial requirement since my savings and retirement funds have taken a nosedive.

Sorry if this has a been addressed elsewhere -- the forums are currently a bit overwhelming.

Any help is appreciated.    Thank you.

  5. Recently, my credit card attached to Rabbit Line Pay was cancelled because of fraudulent activity and I could no longer use my Rabbit Card to enter the BTS.  The attendant told me I still had my opening balance of 500 of credit so my Rabbit Card should still work.  It doesn't; I still can't use my card or even top it up using cash.  (For some reason, each time I ride the BTS using my Rabbit Card, the fare is deducted directly from my credit card -- the 500 opening balance is never touched).

My new card arrived earlier this week and I have been trying unsuccessfully to change it on the App.  I must verify my identity first (When I first started using Line Pay, I had to take my passport to the ticket window.  That was enough and I was all set to go).  Now, you must verify your identity on the app itself by uploading pictures of your passport and your face + passport but I keep getting an error message (screen shot).  There are no other options I can get to on the app -- stuck at verifying identity.  No help at the ticket window - they tell me my card should work.  And no help on the forums on the Line website.

Has this happened to anyone else?  I'd be grateful for some tips on getting this simple but important convenience back on track. Thanks1290615232_verifyidentity.thumb.PNG.aa64b0f4e674ced3ef295f5212d2aa6b.PNG

There seems to be confusion here. Do you want to know about paying Thailand income taxes or paying U.S. income taxes while living in Thailand? If you are a U.S. citizen, you will need to report both if you have Thailand income.

Yes, I am looking for help with Thailand.  I've got US covered and will use TurboTax for that.  But the procedure for filing in Thailand has been elusive.  There is good advice on legal websites, but when it comes to actually filing, there's not a lot of info in English, nor the current forms.  In the end, I will probably use a service, but I am interested in knowing what the process entails.  Maybe I can save a few hundred dollars and do it myself.

  7. I am a US citizen about to begin employment in the Bangkok office of a Dutch company.  I'm currently in Amsterdam at a training and orientation.  My company's Immigration lawyer prepared all the required paperwork in order for me to get my Non-B while in The Netherlands.  My application was not accepted (at the consulate in Amsterdam or the embassy in The Hague) because I am not a Dutch citizen or legal resident -- I was told I needed to go back the the States (my home country) to apply.

Previously, I have received a non-B in Lao -- obviously NOT my home country.  Has something changed?

Thanks in advance for your help!

  8. Good morning.  I am currently here on a Tourist Visa extension.  I'm also in the process of getting a new passport (American) that will be ready 3 days before I fly to the States to get my new Non-B.  My extension expires on the same day as my flight to the US (3 days after my receive my new passport).

Here's my question: Do I need to rush to Chaeng Watthana to get the extension stamp transferred to the new passport before I exit the country, or can I just take both the cancelled passport with the extension stamp and the new passport to the airport?

I hope I have given you the info needed for an informed reply.  Thanks in advance for your advice.

  9. I'm leaving Thailand soon for shores unknown.  I know that future employers will require a police check from my time in Thailand, however, the list of documents needed for a police check state that I need a letter from my future employer.  I can provide everything but this letter since I don't yet have a job offer.  Does anyone have any info as to how rigorous they are with this particular requirement?  In other words, can I show up with everything except this letter?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

  10. Time for some public shaming.  If everything you say is true (and I have no reason to doubt you) post this on Facebook (Bangkok Expats is a good place to start) or even Pantip if you can write in Thai.  Let it go viral.  Maybe you'll get a call in a few days.  If you don't, at least you've helped others.  I certainly won't buy anything from them.  Thanks for your post.

Bangkok immigration is not as strict on the TM30 reporting as some other offices are.

You could likely change your address to Bangkok without a TM30 being done.

The next question would be where do you plan on applying for your next extension. If working in Rayong and have a work permit issued there that is where you will have to do it.

Where are you staying while in Rayong?

I stay in an apartment on the top floor of our Rayong office.  But only there a couple of nights per week, if that.  I work primarily out of my apartment in BKK.  My work permit and extension will be filed in Rayong.  My name is on the lease of the BKK apartment and I use my BKK address for all official correspondence like banking and health.  Any issues (or restrictions) in having a primary residence in a province other than where the extension and WP are issued?  Rayong definitely has it's charms, but I prefer to be in the big city.

  12. I know this topic is quite worn, but the owner of my condo (who resides in Europe) has so far refused to go through "the headache" of complying with the law of registering me as his tenant using TM30.

A bit of background: my work permit and visa are issued in Rayong, but I don't reside in that province.  I am a Bangkok resident, American citizen, on a non-B extension (my visa and work permit must be extended/renewed by 31 January -- before my next 90 day check-in).  To make things easy (but probably more difficult in the long run) I've been using my office address in Rayong as my residence.  At my last 90 day check-in (in Rayong) i was told that the owner had never submitted a TM30 and that this must be done by my next check-in.  To be in full compliance, I want to move my address to Bangkok (not Rayong) and need to persuade my owner to comply.  The process seems easy enough.

    Here are my questions:

    1. What will happen if I show up at Chaeng Wattana with a TM28 anyway? (Without my owner completing the TM30)

    2. Is there any other documentation the owner must submit with the TM30?  The TM30 form itself does not specify.

    3. Any problems renewing my visa and work permit without being in compliance in either Rayong or Bangkok?

Requirements seems to vary from district to district about the TM330 so I'd like to be clear on the requirements for Bangkok.

Thanks in advance for your help and any guidance.

  13. Good morning…

    1. I am a teacher with a work permit and extension of stay issued in Rayong. Often I am asked, and I accept, one-off teaching assignments outside of Rayong. Is this legal if the teaching assignment is paid by the company that I work for? I’m told that this is perfectly acceptable by the school’s office, but I hope to get that validated here.
    2. My primary (permanent) residence is in Bangkok. I say 'primary/permanent residence' because this is where I have been leasing a condo (with another 9 months to go), where I receive my mail, the address I use for my bank accounts, etc. I also stay in an apartment at the school in Rayong a few nights each week, but it’s just a place to sleep. As far as Immigration is concerned, which should be my official/legal address, and at which office do I submit my 90 day report? (If using the Bangkok address is legal and acceptable, can I file at Chaeng Wattana, or do I file at Rayong?) I'm not due to report for the first time until the 16 of June.
As far as I can decipher, neither place has submitted a TM30. Is this problematic?
Any advice would be appreciated. I'm hoping to get this sorted once and for all!
    Thank you in advance.
  14. My visa and work permit were issued in Rayong but I am currently in Bangkok for a few days before flying out of Suvarnabhumi. Can I get a re-entry permit at Chaeng Wattana or Samut Prakan, or is my only option now to get it at the airport? The midnight closure at the airport is problematic for me but not insurmountable. CW or Samut Prakan would actually be more convenient.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  15. Two questions:

    1. Can a Tourist Visa be extended at any immigration office or at the office in the district where I am staying? My preference is Samut Prakan -- where I've previously been issued Non-B's -- to Bangkok, the district where my residence is registered.

    2. I am currently on a Tourist Visa while my work permit is sorted out by the office administrator (long, tired, complicated story). I was unable to extend my previous Non B in time and was advised to get a Tourist Visa in the interim. It's now time for the 30 day extension. Though I am technically not working during this interim period, will it cause any problems at Immigration since I've clearly been employed in Thailand, prior to my changing to Tourist Visa? Put another way: will an Immigration Officer question whether or not I have been working while on a Tourist Visa and will this lead to any suspicion or additional scrutiny? If so, any advice?

    Thank you in advance.
