Does Chatuchak Market have bottom drains and decent EPDM pond liners (20ftx20ft). I'm hoping to build a 1000-1200 gallon koi/goldfish pond and find it hard to find what I need online.

Sorry, I was able to sort out my visa. I had inquired on the slim chance I would have to leave. The situation is so fluid these days, that I hope the responses to my message helped others. Thanks for the replies.

Hi Folks,
I'm wondering what routes are available for me to get my non-immigrant "o" based on marriage at neighboring Thai consulates/embassies?
Links to other threads are also appreciated.

Any luck DNWGOLF? I have been to Chatuchak before I got serious about building a pond. Covid has put a damper on the project for various reasons, but I am aiming to build a small L275cm x W235cm x D1.2cm pond for koi and goldfish. It will be close to 6000liters. I'll be making my list for materials and heading to Chatuchak again, one of these days. I'd like to keep the pond simple, with DIY filter gravity fed system with bottom drain. I'll need to dig and do some cement work, but I'd like to us a rubber pond liner too. A pump of course between filtration and waterfall back into the pond and perhaps UV lighting system. I think getting a good pond liner would be important. I am also wondering if the stacks of rice sacks I have could be used as a cushion. I'm just getting started, perhaps yours is up and running already.

I would do it in concrete, the plastic "pond liner" is easy to damage resulting in a leak the fibreglass pond liners can also crack are quite expensive and probably not even available for your custom pond layout.
I'm concerned with concrete increasing the total weight. I'm not sure at what amount of weight (or water volume), pilings would be needed.

I'm hoping to build this koi pond to fit in this interesting spot near the front entrance of my house. I've waited for a couple years just to see what I would like and this is it. I've never built or had a koi pond, so I am a bit hesitant in doing it. My main concern is cost and whether I can do it with a pond liner rather than concrete. I'd also like to keep the cost of the filtration system down. Any suggestions would be welcome. Hopefully I can DIY-it during the dry season.
The photos shows what I have to work with and my rough plan. I will have decking on top to bridge the main entrance at the base of the stairs to the parking area, which I think will also be an interesting feature. We have put up with the uneven path from car to front door long enough.
We have a big dog that I am hoping will not be a nuisance or danger to the fish. I will also be using the rich fish waste for our gardens.
It will be between 1500-2000 gal (5,678-l7571 liters) in volume. I hope to have 5-6 koi with some smaller gold fish.

Also, better if there is argon gas between the panes. Fiberglass frames also help.
Where can I buy fiberglass frame windows?

To be honest, if being forced to leave would be a disaster, I think you should relocate for a couple of months to get your immigration status sorted out.
Moving out of my house, and being away from my garden, chickens, dogs, and family? We'll see how the 2 month extension goes.

As I wrote before, take a respected Thai with you if possible. They are less likely to reject your application for the 60-day extension with a high status Thai there to witness their intransigence.
I know of no one of high-status, unfortunately. But thanks for the suggestion. We will try the two-month extension.

How certain are you of this? What makes you think this could happen? That would be an awful situation to be in.

Getting a 60 day extension may be best in the long run. That would give you plenty of time to apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa (category O) entry and then the one year extension of stay.
I have inquired previously about the 60 day extension. They wouldn't accept my application. We will try for the 60 day again and, if not, have no choice but the 30-day extension. Thanks again!

Only a 30 day special extension is possible with a letter from your embassy that would start on the 26th of this month.
Hi Ubonjoe,
I am in the same situation regarding status (arrived on Visa Exempt and am now on amnesty). I am married to a Thai and reside in our home here in Thailand. I went to Pathum Thani IO two days ago and they mentioned getting a letter from the US Embassy for a 30-day extension and come back the next week. I got a PDF document emailed to me from the US Embassy, but with a seal and no signature. I assumed I would just print it out and use it, but when my wife called the IO they said it needed to be signed. Do you or anyone here understand this? Perhaps I should try for the 60-day extension "to visit wife" instead. I am really perplexed. I would like to eventually get the Non-O based on marriage, but IO has been steering us away from that. Do I need to get a Visa-Agent to help me?
-
Thanks for bringing that up Peter and, once again, thanks UbonJoe.

Ubonjoe: Sorry, one last question. Can this be done at any IO. Nakhon Nayok is closer and probably less busy. And Pathum Thani IO has been tough going in the past.
-
Thanks Uponjoe! What is required of the 60 day extension? I'm hoping, of course that I can tack it on to an extended amnesty period. A non-immigrant O based on marriage is my eventual goal. I would hope that I can eventually do so from here in Thailand without having to leave the country.
-
I arrived March 14th on emergency entry without being able to arrange O visa based on marriage. As such, I came in on visa exempt and after extending for one month I fell into the amnesty. My wife has asked the Pathum Thani IO if I could extend my stay on the 60 day extension, but was informed that since I didn't extend every month I am now in a special "amnesty" and can't apply for O visa based on marriage OR the extend 60 days to visit family. With the upcoming July 31st deadline, I don't know what to do. Any advice? Thanks

Very good guys. This is a new house build and these doors serve as useful decorative feature that we can be patient with and DIY if necessary. These sites have provided decent prices and attractive designs.
I'll keep u posted on the outcome. Other issues are at the forefront presently.

I have lost 18kg since my return to Thailand about a year ago, 16 kg of of which I have lost in last 7 months when I started. 1) walking 7-9000 steps a day 2) drinking 3-4 liters of water a day 3) no sugar except what is found in Thai dishes 4) no rice/noodles/pasta 5) heaps of veggies which give me all the carbs I need 6) meat that is found in Thai dishes and 7) no beer or spirits) and no deep fried foods.
I stuck to this for about 2 months and from then til now stick to it six days a week with one weekend day for eating anything I like. It is a game changer for me, as I think I can stick to it for life. Now I can step up my exercise routine as I feel more flexible and, of course, lighter. My knees and back feel great. 10kg more and my BMI will be met.
Overall, I just feel better and only feel sluggish if I can't get my walk in. If you think about it Thai dishes have just the right amount of meat with a good sum of veggies. Go to any canteen/buffet style eateries, nix the rice and they will often give you more veggies. Most of the dishes, despite having sugar, offer a good amount of veggies, making it easy to stick to and it is a win win situation. I don't miss the rice. I enjoy my day off, but don't crave it the other six days. Now I am happy to lose 1kg a month.

Eyecatcher. I have seen the version you mention. We saw Yale and a Japanese brand. Yoshino which may have to do. Our home has a rustic old Thai house feel, so it would work well.
Not sure if you mean to add decorative black iron or not. Perhaps we could so that later. It's a new build so we could install a mew version with the above mentioned and if that just doesn't meet our wishes, try as you mention. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry, the idea would be to have the two doors close together.

It may seem strange to say glass windows, but in Thailand there are mostly shutter-type teak windows on old houses with no glass. However, I have some beautiful teak glass-pane windows, which I will reclaim an use on my new house. I would like to add foam weather stripping and possibly new double glaze window panes. Does anyone have experience doing either or both?
