  1. If it is jailbroken using something like SBsettings from Cydia.

If not check your Push email, location services are switched off and don't use safari, youtube, maps apps.

another way is to change the cellular data internet settings from ais ais internet to something incorrect.

  2. I now tend to stay clear of windows mobile based phones. I just find it too slow finicky to do anything such as a simple SMS or MMS.

I would recommend a Blackberry with the appropriate data plan and BIS service. It just has everything u need really and does it better than Microsoft or Symbian OS if you ask me. The OS is solid and fast and the screen on the bold is perfect.

Had an X1 for 3 weeks would not recommend it slow, laggy and dodgy build quality especially the sliding keyboard.

  3. Most or all 747's land the plane by computer.

My uncle who is a pilot says after takeoff they switch on the auto pilot & then never touch the controls until, the aircraft is on the taxi way.

    Congratulations on re-inventing the wheel.

B*ll*x.... for want of a better word :o

Pilots will use autoland about once a month if that, if the weather allows manual flying they will manually fly it.

Anyway i think the report of 800m is inaccurate, SVB has cat 2 landing facilities down to 100ft vertical / 300m vis even in the non cat 2 equipped airplanes the cat 1 minima there is 200ft verical/ 550m vis.

Pity they do not have Cat3b/c categories at the airport 0ft vertical / 0m vis. However the powers that be said the expense of installing it in bangkok was too great considering the amount of times it would be used....oops good planning.

So sounds like the actual vis dropped below 550m or even 300m temporarily....it maybe that cat 2 was unavailable this morning or indeed the vertical vis was very restrictive which is unlucky and much rarer that restricted horizontal vis being the issue.

  4. If you take for example most the UK ISP's they came across the hurdle of bandwidth hogging and 90% of the ISP's there on the basic packges such as 512/256 etc they have a limit per month of 10-20gb of usage. The more expensive / business products from the ISP's offer unlimited data usage or 50gb+ per month.

Looking at Thailand the ISP's are selling all packages with unlimited bandwidth per month - which MUST be contributing to the slowness of the internet from thailand - bearing in mind the net infrastructure out of the country. (If the UK ISP bandwidth couldnt cope with it i am dam_n sure the Thai ISP's cannot!)

Therefore I think Thai ISP's need to take a long hard look at their packages and limit the basic packages per month and only the premium 2000THB+ packages get unlimited bandwidth. I am sure if this was the case the quality / speed would double over night.

  5. I think Iphone still better for me since I use alot of Wi-Fi at home and going around and Blackberry no have the Wi-Fi anyway. Iphone is great now by offering all in Applications.

I also am a great fan of the Iphone but even with the app store it is a bit of a toy compared to the new RIM Phones. The bold is far better for heavy emailing and office doc works with copy paste and things like RIM Messenger.

The Bold for work and the Iphone for a weekend phone / play phone.

  6. I feel a lot safer in Thailand than in America.

You may "feel it" but actually its not.....A lot of visitors here feel safer because they don't understand what is going on around them or understand the cultural differences that well which if handled incorrectly can become very nasty very very quickly and the emergency services infrastructure is just not there to handle an issue quickly or efficiently as in a western country.

Thailand is not safer but gives the impression it is.....false sense of security.

  7. Try to use your Iphone or Ipod Touch with Thailand Iternet. You will have problem most times look at youtube.

Thats just EDGE / GPRS connection - same everywhere in the world using an iphone with that data method.

  8. It is interesting that my AppleTV's on Tot 2mb - stream fantastically well compared to streaming on my laptops/desktops I can rent a movie on AppleTV and it will play within 3 minutes all the way through without a stutter/pause. Never had a problem with rentals/purchases etc. on Apple TV at high quality.

However my laptops/desktops struggle with a youtube videos! - Not sure how Apple are doing it or have they made some deal with CAT to provide higher bandwidth cocnnections to the Apple Servers (Perhaps to do with the launch of itunes (Restricted) in Thailand and indeed the apple store).

Anyway as a side note recommend apple TV for those sick of UBC crapness...movies to rent from $0.99.

  9. Advantage of usenet over the HTTP servers is u can pretty much max out your connection bandwidth by using multiple connections as the NNTP Service providers have more than enough bandwidth compared to the usually limiting depending how many downloaders http service.

Try www.newzbin.com combined with either newsleecher or grabit to make your NNTP service the best and easiest to find anything and download the fastest way.

as far as providers go i still think usenet server is the best value for money $14.95 a month unlimited download/ssl/globalsearch if u need it plus 10 connections 125 day retention.

  10. I would imagine the Import/customs duty is paid for by Apple. Would not worry about customs. Apple would have to state so in the Apple store if the end customer was expected to pay taxes/import duty. Which it does not on the Thailand store.

If the worst came to the worst just refuse delivery and take it up with apple.
