The item I ordered & received from Australia had a vendor declared value of $200.00AUD....

Got clipped ฿7000.00 more at delivery time....

I've also had 5 quality items purchased on ebay from 4 different countries simply vanish during the last 6 months....Follow up with the sender & am told they've reached to here.....

Go to the post office with my tracking number & after they check the computer then leave to check in another room  - then I'm told "not in Thailand".....

There was a topic about this elsewhere & it was astounding how much stuff has dissappeared and people affected.....It always seems to be the high quality goods, the pedestrian is getting through....

Ouch!!!!.....that is a real stinger, you have not had a good run,

Previously I ordered a couple of DVDs through Amazon, and they arrived with the package opened, but was not charged any extra, that's why I felt comfortable ordering the boots....the positive thing is that the boots fit my feet perfectly, I was stressed about that....so I look at that side and try not to think of the price, Cheers

I purchased a couple $100~150 CD box sets from Amazon this year. Previously when I did this, even at the cheapest shipping rate, Thai customs open them and then Thai post would bill me on delivery. However, as others have stated, Amazon.com now is pre-calculating your duty and tax, and you pay in advance at checkout time. Supposedly, if you end up paying less they will refund you the difference. Not sure how that works.

But something changed just this year - Amazon.com now offers a slowest and cheapest rate, without the duty and tax added on. It ships via "UPS i-parcel", with tracking, and arrives sealed up in a massive woven plastic bag delivered by Thai Post. In both instances, it clearly had not been inspected and I escaped paying any duty or tax whatsoever. Shipping time was 3 weeks. Your mileage may vary, but this seems to be the best option for me at this time.

I just received a pair of boots from Amazon,com.us....ticked the standard delivery/shipping box....tax not included. Picked up my boots from post office today.....had to fork out an extra 4,000 Baht for import tax....not happy, but what can I do?, just have to take it on the chin (note: Amazon clearly stated on the box what the contents were and their price in us dollars $299.....the shipping cost was $70, and now the added tax of 4,000B ($120) brings the total cost to $489....wifey was not impressed, nor was I, just for the record.

So is this "standard"?...if so, that's the last time I order things this way....Cheers.

You should have a recipt for the origional placing of the paper work plus the bank can verify you got a letter re balance for tbe first date. There is a hotline you should ring on this as its obviously gross negligence im sure ubon joe would know the number.

Thank you for your comment.....but I tend to agree with lopuri3....really not worth the hassle to pursue something that would maybe have detrimental effects for the future....as I need to go back to that same office for 90 day reports and further extension of stays....just have to take it on the chin.

But I do hope there are no repercussions for the 1 month "delay".

    Cheers.

I can't think of any reason why the "Head Office" would reject the application. The stamps in your passport should make it obvious that you made an application a month ago. I wouldn't worry.

Outrageous that they charged you another 1,900 baht though!

Thank you for your reply.....I tend to agree with you, but as you know, stranger things can happen when it comes to government officials.

    Once again thanks. Cheers.

  5. I have applied for Extension of Stay based on marriage for the past 4 years through Nakhon Pathom Immigration office with no problems.

Now with the new office open in Ratchaburi, much closer to home, last month I submitted all my paperwork in accordance with form TM 7 and was told to come back in 1 month after the usual assessment period...pretty standard.

I show up yesterday and present my passport with my file number....they couldn't find me in the system. Ten minutes later they come out with my paperwork that I submitted a month ago.....they forgot to send in to Bangkok Head Office! I said ok....just send it in now.....no no no.

I had to go to the bank again today, pay another 200 Baht to get the letter and copies of my bank statement, then go back to Immigration, they made me fill out another TM 7 form with todays date AND make me pay another 1,900 Baht.....all because they forgot to forward my original paperwork. All during this, they were trying to make it look like they were giving me an extra month leeway and I should be grateful....not once apologising for their blatant incompetence.

Now I have to wait another month for assessment....my concern is, when it gets to Head Office, they will see that I am one month late and who knows what their reaction will be. Because I am sure as hell know that Ratchaburi will not inform Head Office that the one month delay was their fault.

Has anyone else had a similar situation to mine?......also should I be concerned or just sit back and assume that all is normal?

    Cheers.

  6. Coming from a maritime background....I find the 24 hour clock flawless and unambiguous.

Since being married to a Thai and now living here.....time becomes nonsensical....basically they operate on a 6 hour clock.....so if you ask what time will we meet for coffee, you can get 2 o'clock....which they may mean 0800.....or you may get 4 o'clock which is really 1000 hours.

Therefore I am amazed that any public transport system can operate with any success. So OP I can understand your dilemma...just have to shake your head and go with the flow.....Cheers.

  7. Great idea and good luck.

When my wife and I moved over here from Australia, we brought a box full of the green "Woolies" bags and have used them until they passed their use-by date.

At first we got unusual looks and stares, but now around our local village we don't get a second glance when we refuse a plastic bag and just show our "brought from home " bag ready and willing.

Has it made an impact on other people in our village to do the same?......I don't think so.....we need to educate the kids, adults are too set in their ways.

    Cheers.

  8. I also had my wife's ring resized just recently.

We bought the ring in Australia believing we were getting good quality.....fast forward to today, the ring needs to be expanded 3 sizes......4 hours later, and 800 Baht, we got the ring back.....perfect size and a lot "more goldy colour".

They told us that the ring only contained 40% pure gold and they had difficulties fusing the extra gold to increase the size, plus the overall "gold plating" that made it look like new.....so were we ripped off in Oz, or did they do a "switcharoo"' here in Thailand?

I will never know, but so long as the wife is happy.....I am happy.

    Cheers.

  9. Ok.....you say you are not looking for young girls for fun....but want a partner in your life.

At the end of the day, that is what we all are really looking for.

If that is truly the case....then there is no rush. Take your time.....go to her village, meet her family, learn a few Thai words and phrases.....you are still young.....keep your options open.

  10. I am a dinosaur that prefers magazines over electronic media.....over the last 3 years I have had several issues "gone missing" in the Thai Postal Service....as I type I am still awaiting an issue that should have arrived 3 weeks ago...so I am now forced to submit another email to the publishers explaining that the thai gremlins in the postal service have struck yet again, I have stopped getting stressed about it and just accept it as a normal breakfast order that went astray....

  11. I had this exact situation 4 weeks ago at the Nakhon Pathom Immigration office.

I actually went in before my extension of stay was due to transfer the stamps to new passport.....they were really busy that day and told me everything could be done on the one visit......transfer stamps to new passport plus extension of stay.

As a bonus they also did my 90 day report at the same time (it wasn't due for another 3 weeks at the time....I didn't ask) all good.

  12. I have done 4 extension of stays based on marriage via Nakhon Pathom Immigration Office.

First year we had a visit (we live 140km from Immigration Office)......the following 2 years no visit.

Just recently I did my fourth application and we were visited a week later....very official. one boss with 2 side-kicks, laptop and printer. They interviewed my wife took photos and we had to get a friend to verify that I was indeed married etc. They photocopied her ID card.

My wife asked "why this visit? we have not been visited the last 2 years"......the reply was because we have no children, they wanted to check us out to make sure we are legitimate.

They also mentioned that there might be a new office opening up in Ratchaburi.....make it a lot easier for us....only 65km away.

  13. Being the ultimate cheep charly that I am.......does anyone know of a website that streams Free the Masters golf????

For me I don't mind if it is a few hours delayed.....I just don't like giving my credit/debit card details to some of these sites and then not being able to watch what I paid for....once bitten twice shy so to speak.

    Cheers.

  14. I agree with "geriatrickid"....but at the same time, we don't know what cards we are dealt in life.

My dad had his 77 Birthday today and he is in late stage dementia... with my stepmom looking after him. Her life is hell.

So depending on what we are dealt with (health wise)....I have found that most people are more comfortable if they are in their familiar surroundings when they are ill, whether that be in Thailand or their home country.

We are all going to die....I think when the time comes...I would want it to be while I was doing something i enjoyed...or surrounded by friends and family.

  15. I apologise for this morbid thread,,,,but I need to let it be known to the rest of the world.

Today 26th December 2014, a young life was sadly taken away from us.

A young 32 year old, very beautiful school teacher at our local Primary School, was found this morning haven taken her own life by hanging.

I know it will not make the headlines as did my favourite comedian Robin Williams, but it still deserves the attention needed in our society (the human race), that this silent killer should be made aware to all of us to be not silent, and talk about it.....I know because I have been in that dark room with no windows or doors, and with the help of friends here on TV I slowly, was able to claw my way out of that dark room.

Only sketchy details, but from what I understand, she was depressed about not being able to be with her boyfriend.

I really don't want to go into more details, but our village is Pong Krating, Banka.....and she always appeared as a happy going, likeable young woman. Highly respected in the village and we are all in shock.

May she be at peace now.

    Thank You.

    Rob.

  16. OK...thanks to all for the swift replies.

So it looks like the answer is to get a multiple entry non-O based on marriage.

So do I just leave the Kingdom as is (no TM8 form)....apply for this multiple entry non-O based on marriage, do my 90 day border runs, then apply for extension of stay again once that visa has expired?

    Do I have that right?

    Cheers.

edit: how difficult is it to do this in Laos?
