  1. The stories written don't mention the Thai wives like mine that cannot visit their families because WE cannot go or for fear they will not be allowed to rejoin the husband if they go alone. We are Both locked out of Thailand, with condos sitting empty and car waiting since May. I expect the condos are going to have a lot of January cash flow problems, when condo fees are due! Spending our million baht a year for 4 or 5 months a year in country, will have to go to Florida or Mexico.

Below is what is currently list on the Thailand Longstay Company for insurance requirements specific to the STV. I don't know how this compares to any other visa type insurance requirements. It appears they are looking for 2 types of insurance, 1 for Covid specifically and 1 for general travel\health.  I don't know if there is a type of insurance that would cover both areas but will be checking around for that to see the options.

    • Medical and Travel Insurance options with a minimum 100,000 USD coverage for Covid-19 medical treatment and a minimum coverage of 400,000 THB for other medical and accident expenses. The insurance must cover for at least 90 days.

this is useless information for those of us owning condos in Thailand and being what the Thais consider old. Can we ever return? No prices ever quoted

Tourism is important to Thailand. The impression of safety is important. Perfectly adequate, may be perfect adequate for you. But it's not about you...

Safety is all in the eye of the beholder. Tourists are going to be rare few that want to sit in 14 day quarantine 3 star or 5 star. Thailand will have to loosen up in a few months or they will lose another year of tourists. Of course the generals will not miss a meal only the common people.

  4. This guy speaks english pretty well, mostly Stainless steel, gates, boats truck racks. Nicest guy, and follwed my plans exactly for a curved shower rod and brackets to slip it in, for my corner shower. Today i returned after a couple years and he did not want to charge me for a small spot welding job to save a good cooking pot.

Highly recommended, and I forced him to take a little money.

  5. Thank you Joe and Peter, its a good help and if that was how I go, Peter's details are a big help.

For the benefit of the board or other members I would fill you in to what they told me at the front desk. I decided i had time to drive in and get it from their mouths. I was handed the usual (I assume) printed instructions and a form, when i asked if I needed a TM 30 she said something about proof of address  or registered address and i asked if a chanote would do and she said yes that would be adequate and no TM30 required.

The form she gave me listed copies rental contract, house blue book, ID card of owner, business card and receipt from hotel or hotel certificate. Of course all these would let them look up if a TM30 is there, but the front desk clearly said it was not necessary.

Then i review the papers they gave me and it is a TM8 and my wife says the two page one says TM30 in Thai, but not english.  The TM8 says its for re-entry which does not seem the right form it says nothing about extension.

Anyway i realised i need more than 30 days to match my wifes ticket and wish to stay longer so i would have to run to Cambodia anyway and better to do it now.  So Banpuggard Border Checkpoint here i come.

Sorry for the long windedness, just hoping someone gets some help here.

If the want it. Complete it and attach a copy of your blue book for it or a copy of your channote to it.

Thank you so much for trying to help Joe, i was most pleased to see you there, but this whole TM30 thing throws me. I am only on a Multiple tourist visa and resent the whole paperwork thing. My understanding is that the TM30 was supposed to be done in November when i arrived or in January when i returned from Saigon, which is all pretty silly and redundant on the TM6. If they are going to hassle me, I would rather make the 4 hour drive to border

  7. fir the first time in 15 years of being here part time i now need to consider a 30 day extension. What do I need to take with me to Jomtien to do it in one day? i have always used my 60 day limit on multiple tourist visa as an excuse to travel and so have spent 4 or 5 months here without doing an extension.

Now if i decide to avoid the madhouse of NYC airports (staying here longer) i need this week to do an extension. 60 day after my last trip out runs out on 21 march. Is jomtien the madhouse i remember from years past when i had work visas or retirement visas? do I need anything to take with me?

Thanks for any help in this time of nutty governments.

  8. I live a little further out just the other side of Baan Amphur, condo on ocean for 12 years, and years ago was offered 1/2 ownership in some land just off Huay Yai Road, would have been a decent investment. I agree with you 25 minutes away from town is good. check that you can get decent internet (I expect you can, I recently got fibre into my condo).  Of course owning here is always a gamble, with new noises moving in and no zoning, but Huay Yai is about as good as anywhere for those of us avoiding cities. The Huay Yai road itself is getting more and more traffic so i hope you set back a ways.

For years I've heard the magic formula for men. "Half your age, then add 7" and that is the perfect age of compatibility. Works from 16 to 100. Most but not all of my friends with successful relations fall within this general guideline.

    Nah - much too old

  10. My wife of 16 years is only 33 years younger than me. If yours has lasted as long as it sounds, its right. Don't sweat the nasty old ladies in farang land. I dated a woman over 40 twice in my life, once 45 years ago and once about 30 years ago. But no relationship I ever had lasted a 1/3 of the time this one has. She tells me i have to stay healthy so i can take care of her when she gets old. Sounds fair to me.

Has anyone ever told you that you look like that guy who hates Trump and makes bad documentaries? What's his name again? Michael something.

That is a pretty awful comment- given the creep that Moore is.

  12. Raising a giant fuss and yelling at family is useless at best and dangerous maybe. Just deduct the highest value (like 1/6 of the value of the car and full value of sprayer from the support you give your wife and family. So that would be a full year of some normal support. Tell her to get her spending money from her sister.

You should balance the account, but tantrums not going to help

  13. I live outside, but close enough to get into Pattaya. Like I will do later today. The only bad thing for me about Pattaya is traffic in the core locations and the horrid songtau/taxicab scenario. So, driving in and parking is a hassle, but without decent other choices, I bear it a couple times a month.

But there are good venues and lots of choices on shopping, dining, places for friends of all budget ranges to stay. And some "entertainment" for those in need. But, I too do not hang out with gangs or anyone else at 3am and have always felt safe. Only place I had an altercation was Bangkok, not Pattaya.
