Hello John,
Starting a new business is tough going. Best to purchase a well established internet business with at least 10 years of contacts, emails and internet presents.
After the fears of Covid-19 die down people will be traveling again however things will not be the same for travelers. The days of large group tours will be the thing of the past. The health of the traveler will be in the top of their list for safe travel. For this reason private custom tours and experiences away from the normal tourist crowds will be the norm.
Since the H1N1 virus scare in 2009 some tour operators have completely changed the way they operate. They have changed from the large cheap group tours in large groups to small private tours for couples and families with great success. Quality, health safety and personal attention to the needs of the clients as a first priority over quantity attract those who travel often and have more expendable income.
Tour companies in Thailand are closing at a fast pace. This opens the door for for an internet operator who knows about the upscale tour market to have great success.
I have written several blogs about internet travel operators opportunities during this time of the Covid-19 problem that are published by travel magazines on line.
You can contact me for more information if you wish.
Kind regards

Keen is correct but most tour operators do not know how to do high end private tours and experiences away from the normal tourist crowds. Our tour operation has been bringing high end visitors to Thailand for more than 25 years. The months of November of this year through Feb. of next years is already almost fully booked with deposits paid. Our refund fund policy is no refund in all our part for the 20% deposit they pay however they do have 1 year to reschedule their tour with us at no extra charges should they need to cancel..

Private tours away from the normal tourist crowds will win the day. This means targeting couples and families. Young tourists with less spending money want to party and travel in a large group cheap tour a corona-virus nightmare.

I have been investing in small internet business companies for the past 20 years with great success. I chose companies that want to grow and have no debt. They all are 100% owned with little or no overhead as they worked from their home. A few didn't make it but around 90% are still doing great.

I am in Savannakhet now staying at Sala Thongyon Garden Bungalows.. Very quiet here as there are only 3 others. Those who are working in Thailand or married to a Thai national are getting visas with the proper paperwork. People looking for a tourist visa are being turned away. If you just need to cross the border and get a visa upon entry you can if you spend an evening here in Savannakhet. You must first go to the hospital here and get documents from a doctor saying you do not have a fever and your lungs are clear.

I have been going to Doi Inthanon National park and enjoying the cool weather. It was 6 degrees C. at the summit the morning of April 3 and 12 degrees with nice clean air where we were staying at Mae Klang Luang bungalows
Leaving Chiang Mai city again tomorrow for a couple of days in the park also for Songkran.

I am staying at Mae Klang Luang bungalows in Doi Inthanon National Park. Air is clean, clear and cold at night. Been hiking and birdwatching since Monday. Going back to Chiang Mai city today. If the smog is that bad I will return to the park.

When I came to teach at Payap University in Chiang Mai in 1989 I had to sign a 2 year contract. They sent me the proper paperwork for the non-Imm multiple entry visa and I moved to Chiang Mi. They helped me find a house to rent, took care of my work permit, gave me free Thai language lessons, Free Lanna Thai culture and history classes. They paid my expense when I had to leave every 90 days and reenter with a letter stating they guaranteed me while in Thailand for the first year and gave me the proper paperwork to get my second non imm multi entry visa and took care of everything again.
I am now on a retirement visa and visit the University often. They just offered me a teaching job again but I like the retirement visa so cannot teach. They should allow qualified English teachers to work with a retirement visa. Lots of us retired teachers living here and we would be dedicated long time employees. What a shame.

Nothing in Chiangmai for 2 days now, and Chiangmai was mentioned as a province that will be badly affected. Strange that!
Talking with my friends in Chiang Mai Province, Mae Ai District near Muang Ngam near Thaton on the Mae Kok river they have had real heavy rains in the past 2 nights. They are worried about mud slides like they had 20 years ago that killed 20 and wiped out bridges and roads. I lived in Thaton then and the huge trees from the mountains took out homes and bridges. That is why the river is rising so high in Chiang Rai.

I've heard that on the KSR to Cambodia trips they also raid all the luggage somewhere along the way and steal anything of value.
Me and my mrs will be taking the train tomorrow and making our own way. Not lookin forward to the boarder crossing with all the scum bag touts
What they do is have one of the boys ride in the luggage compartment to raid the luggage while in route. He gets out when the bus makes a bathroom stop or just before a police check point to see if the driver is drunk or on drugs. The passangers never know.

This morning at my fitness park 8 kilometers from the Chiang Mai city center, in a field next to the park about a hundred tourists were left stranded from 4 different buses that arrived within a 30 minute period between 6 and 6:30AM on the Lampang - Chiang Mai highway. Talking with some of them they all bought their bus tickets from agencies and guest houses on Khaosan road in Bangkok. To get onto town they had a 5 kilometer walk to where they could catch a songteaw into the city. I tried to help by phoning a few of my friends who have songteaws but they were busy transporting children to school and would not be free until after 9AM. There were 3 families with small children in tears and 2 Thai people who exercise at the park had pick up trucks took the families into town.
WARNING: Get all you bus tickets to Chiang Mai from the Mor Chit bus station or companies who say you need to go to Mor Chit bus station to get your bus. The illegal bus companies who operate from Khaosan road do not have permits to go into the city. You have been warned.

The sad thing to see was the young children as young as 4 years old and their parents wondering how they were going to get into town. The Thais who volunteered to help them and take them into town free showed the true heart of the Chiang Mai people. No one asked them they just volunteered. The greedy tour operators and guest houses in Bangkok have no shame putting young children on the bus they know will not take them into Chiang Mai city.

Now we will here from all the cry babies who been living in Thailand with these tourist visa. Either get a proper visa or go home.
Any advice for someone under 50 that isn't married with no Thai children, that working outside of Thailand on a 6 week on 6 week off rotation, that wishes to spend his time off in Thailand??? Any suggestions???
I have been living in Thailand for 26 years. Before I had a retirement visa I always had a non-immigrant "o" visa with mulitpule entry. You will need to rent a place with a 1 year lease. If you can get a letter of guarantee from someone who has a company in Thailand or a Thai national such as a tracher or someone who works for the govenrment saying they will guarantee you during your stay in Thailand will help a lot when applying for the visa. Take these documents along with your bank statement to a Thai embassy or consulate and you will have no problem. Talk with an immigrations officer and they will help you, they helped me a lot in the past.

Great news, I was tired of trying to sleep with all the backpackers drinking, drunk and loud. The train staff tries to put them in the bathroom area to drink and smoke late at night but some won't go. Now I fly.

It seems that tour groups, adventure and indepentent travelers are staying away from Thailand and the ones canceling their trip. Families, honeymooners and couples looking for a custom designed tour with full service starting with pick up at the airport upon arrival and return to the airport for departure back home is on the rise. Mid and high end clients travel often so are used to the type of situtions that are now happening in Thailand. They don't listen to news hype but find out the truth about the real and made up dangers by chatting with expats and other travelers.
That being said Asian travelers are terrified about coming to Thailand knowing what a military coup means in their home countries. The military is quite calm in Thailand compared to most asian countries such as China. The Japanese and Koreans are afraid of everything so they are canceling and staying away also.

Has my daily life been affected by the military coup? Only slightly as local and cable TV has been taken over by the military so all programming has been cancel. I have a satellite dish so I get TV from Viet Nam and Laos with all the western programs. Also there is a curfew from 10PM to 5AM which doesn’t affect me as I do not go to bars or pubs. In Chiang Mai where I live there are no military troops posted anywhere that I have seen and everything is normal and peaceful.
Tourists here are taking it all in stride doing their day time activities of visiting temples and markets, trekking and hiking and enjoy adventures. They go out in the evenings to have dinner then return to their guest house or hotel by 10PM with beer or wine purchased at the local stores. They are listening to music or watching movies provided by the establishment where they are staying.
I am not going to get into politics here as there are many others blogging about this and I don’t truly care. As mentioned I have been here and seen this several times and never once seen any tourist or visitor harmed. My advice is to just come and enjoy the warm and friendly people, great food and natural beauty of Chiang Mai.

There are many easy tests you can do and most are just common sense. I wrote a blog about this . Living in Thailand since 1989 I have loads of experiences with the Thai and hill tribe ladies including my experiences with different class of ladies from the rich and well educated, business women and teachers to poor hill tribe ladies.. Also as a teacher at Payap University for 2 years in 1989 to 1991 the Thai teachers taught me a lot. If you would like to read my blog send me a message and I will send the file to you or anyone who wishes to read it. Title: Dating and Romance Thai Style.
