  1. Sound is a personal preference... What sounds good to me could sound horrible to you.

Yes, different speakers will play different music better... Some will have better high end, some better low end; hence why each manufacturer has so many different models available.

$ spent is not an true indication of sound quality (has a bearing on build quality).

As for best music... Honestly, whatever music you listen to regularly. No point listening to rap music with heavy bottom end, if you listen to classical.

As for controls... Set all to neutral to start with... Preferably listen to them using the same amp or device that will power them at home.

  2. Not sure you're asking a the right question. Not sure it's the hardware that is the problem, it's more the operating system. If you want the best of all worlds, buy the Mac Air and install Bootcamp so you have a windows partition for the odd program you cant run under iOS.

Go with the Macbook Air you won't regret it... small learning curve transitioning from Windows to Mac.

Re: Bootcamp... stay away from it. If you want to run Windows use 'Parallels' (virtual machine software about $80 AUD)... absolutely Brilliant.

I made this error when I purchased my first macbook pro in 2012, as I'd never used a Mac before I set the partition at 60/40 in favour of windows. Big Mistake... once you have bootcamp you are stuck with it unless you start from scratch again.

With bootcamp, I soon got very tired of switching between Mac and Windows... enter Parallels... allows Mac and Windows to operate at the same time, drag and drop files etc... they work together as one.

For work I need Windows for the ERP, access to servers etc also MS Office for Windows is far better than Office for Mac; however, I use Mac for everything else. Honestly, you don't even know you have 2 operating sytems running together.

Worried about performance? ok... if you're a gamer forget it... for everyone else, the IT guys at work have benchmarked my machine running Parallels/Windows and nothing in my company comes close. Yes, that's predominately due to the Mac's hardware (awesome machine) but it shows running windows through a virtual drive doesn't present any bottlenecks.

When running Parallels you don't partition the drive so 100% of the available hard disk space is there for both Mac and Windows; Bootcamp holds you to the partition which can be very limiting as your needs change. Yes, there's software that can apparently change the partition... I've tried a few to no avail.

Upgraded my Macbook 6 months ago without Bootcamp... installed only Parallels (and the version of Windows I wanted)... happy days.

  3. Maybe, and in many cases, you come from a society where the rules are similar to playing chess, and you have entered a society that has no idea of chess, but only checkers.

The point being, different people, culture, society, and you need in many instances to forget about what you have been taught as "normal" or even acceptable.

That's not to say that its wrong, nor right, its just not the same and making adjustments to the differences is fraught with misunderstandings and confusion as to what you know as "the norm" and what your surroundings dictates is "the norm".

    Exactly...

However, there is a cure... visit/do business in Viet Nam. They make the Thais look like amateurs.

I don't even notice corruption in Thailand anymore.

I am also under no illusions there's another country somewhere that makes the Vietnamese look like amateurs.

  4. And just how true is this story considering the source - can you just imagine a farang guy with wife and child in tow accepting a polite request (probably in Thai) to vacate a taxi on a motorway - yeah right something that happens everyday in Thailand.

I've had it happen to me (only once in 9 years), picked up from Suvarnabhumi then he just stopped on the motorway and asked me to get out, didn't ask for money...

No point getting upset... unlike Australia, in Thailand there's always another taxi 15 seconds away (even on the motorway).

  5. Interesting... I'm in/out of Thailand every 2 weeks (work Viet Nam), like you, I stay for 3-7 days, unlike you, I enter/exit exclusively through Suvarnabhumi and in 7 years haven't once been questioned/required to show any proof of 'anything' let alone employment etc (although I always travel with my Viet Nam residence card).

Travelling on an Australian passport I rarely spend more than 30 seconds in front of the immigration official.

I hope there is no new law otherwise I'm gone...

  6. A week ago I was pulled over by a policeman in lower Sukhumvit for no apparent reason, asked to see my license, checked the papers, helmets being worn etc after finding no legitimate infringement he claimed I can't ride a bike here (despite the 1000 other bikes riding past at the time).

Consequently, I was escorted to a little shack just off the road where he DEMANDED 200 baht or I'd receive a ticket.

I'll give him one thing he wouldn't actually take the money directly from us, I had to just leave it on the table after he walked out...

So in his eyes (and the other 80million Thais) he hadn't accepted/received anything... it would be viewed as a stupid farang leaving his money on a table (for some unknown reason).

That said... I got my 200 baht worth of entertainment watching the wife absolutely going off at him for being corrupt and a disgrace etc... his reaction, was one of 'tell me something I don't know'

  7. Yes, they do...

I purchased 2 iPads in Thailand for my kids in Australia. I had set them up whilst in Thailand and registered the warranty in Thailand.

1 of the iPads, 3 weeks old had line of pixels drop out down the centre of the screen.

Not only did Apple (Australia) recognise the unit as being under warranty, but arranged all the free shipping back to their service point.

An extra level of service I didn't expect, after the item went missing during transit, Apple Australia replaced it free of charge (with the newer model).

For now, I can't fault their service...
