  1. He is from the States and he is way under 50. He applied for the visa in the US and its definitely for 90 days. I assumed it was a tourist visa. It says non-immigrant visa at the top of it. Category "o" - and it was a single entry. Hopefully this helps clarify.

Hope that helps. Thanks for the replies and Merry Christmas

  2. I have a friend here on a 90 day tourist visa. He is wanting to stay longer.

    What are his options?

I've done some research and read through some other forums. From what I understand, staying with a tourist visa, he could apply for a 30 day extension or simply do a boarder run and get an additional 2 weeks. Are there other options with a tourist visa?

Can you apply for a student visa while in-country on a tourist visa?

    Are there other options?

  3. Have you checked out Expat Auto Chiang Mai. The owners speak both Thai and English fluently and their cars come with a guarantee. Haven't bought one from them yet, but will eventually. After doing some looking decided to go with a moto a few months back.

  4. Thanks for the help. One last thing - other threads on here talk about an import permit or a form 1/1 - but I can't seem to find one online. There are links within some of the conversations, but all of them seem to be dead.

  5. I have a friend flying in to CNX in a few weeks. He will be bringing his dog. Anyone know the process for this? He is flying delta if that helps, may have to overnight in BKK.

What are Thailands laws on bringing pets?

  6. Not 100% sure how their prices compare on rentals, as that isn't their main focus, but when/if you decide to buy a car I'm convinced Expat-Auto is the way to go. Had a friend buy a car from them, car is running great and the process was super easy. Had another friend buy a car from another used car dealer, and it literally caught on fire within a month.

  7. I have a masters degree in English from University of Arkansas. I want to teach English in the classroom (not English as a second language, but actual English), ideally at an international school. I'm having trouble finding what the requirements are to teach here in Chiang Mai.

Thanks in advance for the help.

  8. Judging from the fact that you are worried about the taxi fair I'm going to assume you are a thrifty traveler. No need to spend 2000 a night in CM. I highly recommend FX hotel Royal Panerai. Its about 400 baht a night. Rooms are huge, bed is great (for Thailand, don't get your hopes up too much), and staff was fantastic. Where ever you book do it online, always going to be cheaper than in person.

Things to do in July in CM:

    Elephants

    Get a massage

    Sunday Night walking street

Eat, eat, eat - tons of good food

Go to the zoo (way cheaper than Night Safari)

    Cooking class

  9. Thanks for the help. Sorry for lack of details - that was mostly because I dont know. Dont really have a preference on auto or manual - is there a price difference? Right now I've been driving a borrowed Wave 100cc. Its been fine, except when hills are involved (hence the desire to slightly jump up in cc's).

I leaning towards new, because of fear of getting ripped off since I dont know much.

Where is the best place to buy a new one?

  10. I've been to a few soccer games at 700 yr stadium and was wondering if there are professional basketball (or competitive club teams) in the area. If so, where do they play? And, when? Or, does anyone know of a website where schedules are posted?

    Thanks.

  11. Wife loves Massaman curry, but we've been disappointed with the few places around are apartment that have it.

Any recommendations for some great Massaman in Chiang Mai?

    Thanks.

  12. Next weekend I am planning on driving to Chiang Rai from Chiang Mai.

On google maps it seems to be taking me on an unnecessary detour (screenshot attached).

Is that necessary? And if so, why?

Also, very open to suggestions on places to stop on the way there.

    Thanks. (First post)
